At last, I know what skin condition I have!
Wow, I just now found out what I have! I have been wondering about my stupid skin problem for just about 20 years now! Someone told me in my early 20's that I had what was known as "chicken skin", but that's all she said. She really didn't know anything else about it. I'm in my early 40's now and it's at it's worst I think. I tried looking up "chicken skin" on Google about two years ago and found a whole bunch of stuff, but nothing that looked like my skin.
Today, I go onto the Walgreens website and was looking a microdermabrasion-type product when someone reviewing it said they had Keratosis Pilaris. Not knowing what that was, but hoping it was what I had, I googled it and found many pics of it. AT LAST!!!! I found my skin problem!!!! I didn't know of anyone else that had it. Now I can read everyone's posts and find out what has or hasn't worked in at least minimizing it, and hopefully try some stuff. Unfortunately, I don't go out in the sun anymore, and that seemed to be the only thing that helped when I was younger. Living in the Arizona desert now kind of limits the amount of time you can spend outdoors in the sun, at least for 9 months out of the year! The other 3 months are too cold to wear light clothing. Thanks for this great site! Snert |

The sun part's pretty interesting. Many people have at least a little, or even quite a bit of improvement in their KP from frequent sun exposure. Many here would love to live in such a sunny place as you!
Being 18, I can't imagine making it to 40 with KP. You must be a pretty strong person to not let it bother you that much. Anyways, welcome to the site, enjoy your stay, and I hope you find something that works for you. |

Re: At last, I know what skin condition I have!
Hey, I'm also new to this site, and i thought that I'm the only one out there that hides from the beach becuase I can't use sexy open tops or shorts.
I was thinking of going to a dermatologist here in Durban, SA however they can be quite expensive and of no help. I've suffered with this from a little child and went to a doctor who put me on Retin A. Needless to say it caused terrible burning on my young skin. Now at age 26, I'm desperate to get rid of this for good. Please help me, any ideas on where I should start and what I should do. I feel like there's noone out there researching and trying to come up with some sort of cure for sufferers like us. I have it on my back, sides, chest, and arms. Any treatments that I could find in SA? |
