Talking Hopeless and giving up... almost.

WebMd says that Keratosis Pilaris, while unattractive is harmless, goes away by the age of 30 in most cases, and that treatment is "medically unnecessary."

This made me feel ridiculous and a not just a little hopeless. Docs have never heard of this and I can't get my primary care provider to take me seriously about my request for a referral to a dermatologist! I'm so frustrated!

I am 35 and my kp is on my upper arms, shoulders, ribs, belly, hips, buttocks, thighs, and has started to migrate down to my calves. It's horrible and it is very uncomfortable not only mentally, but physically and emotionally as well.

I haven't worn a swimsuit or shorts of any kind in so many years I can't remember the last time. I don't even own any. I only wear shirts with a minimum 3/4 sleeve... it must be to my elbow at least. Long pants are always even in the Texas heat.

I hate my skin. I hate it. And it only seems to be getting worse.

I had no hope and had pretty much given up... until I found this site. Reading through your posts has filled me with hope and a desire to try again. It is immensely reassuring to find so many others who have this condition and who find it intolerable. And to see so many ideas on treating it. I'm so excited to find others like me!

Thank you for being here. I look forward to learning and getting to know you guys.

Re: Hopeless and giving up... almost.

Let me just add... I have three children, all of whom I have unfortunately passed my kp on to. I so very much hope to find an effective way to treat this condition so that I can pass that knowledge on to my children and maybe make their lives with kp easier. Wouldn't it be great if they didn't have to deal with it at all!!!!
