Tanning

I started tanning last Tuesday and I noticed the bumps on my arms are much smoother, they were not bad to begin w/ and they really don't bother me either but I have noticed that they are smoother. I have not been tanning since I got rid of the bumps, so I am wondering how well it will hide my little red/freckle color dots?? I hope it works, I so want to wear shorts and feel OK about it. I remember in the past tanning in a bed and I never got a great tan that way, maybe just a nice base tan. Then when I go out into the sun I get really tan. I don't have the time to spend hours in the sun trying to get tan w/ a 2 yr. old, a job and all of the other fun housewife stuff that goes w/ it so this works good for me (tanning in a bed). OK I have gone on enough!

hey kim....are you really fair skin??....I'm asian too but i have olive skin. I use to love the porcelain translucent looking skin, but i guess that wouldnt be a great idea having kp...perphaps that's why my kp is a light brownish color....i've dressed really covered up ever since i've been really conscious about kp and my bodies really lightened up...I'm planning on tanning this summer too...but because i'm naturally tan already i'll probably tan easier then you. but i have to tell you, my sis is really light skinned and when she tans...her skin burns easily and it's not a nice tan like how american tans are...ya know..bronzy lookin....my sis..her tan was like kinda dirty light brown...so maybe you should try those fake tans instead....but if the tan is working for ya...never mind my comments

I am fair but I do tan well. My problem is that I don't have 2 hrs. to sit in the sun everyday and really it's not good for you. I guess tanning is not the greatest either but I want to wear shorts, I'm tired of not wearing shorts, the past 2 summers were horrible. It gets extremly hot here in Philly and very humid. We are going to Washington later in the summer for a wedding and we will do some sight seeing and I want to be able to wear shorts, it gets really hot there too. Well at least the bumps are gone and that alone makes a BIG difference! Kim

I know this may be a dumb question , but can anyone also tell me what you wear to the salon? Are you just naked in the booth? How long does the session last? I am planning on going next week after school if over and I have been looking for information on tanning salon visit online and have not found any, or maybe I haven't looked well. I have never gone and do not know anyone who has gone so I am kinda nervous about it. I hope I don't have to expose my skin to the tanning salon operator.

The tanning beds are in private rooms w/ locks on the door so most people tan in the buff. You need to start out slow like 5 minutes, because you will more then likely burn at first. Then work your way up. 20 minutes is the norm for most people after they have been tanning a while.

They usually have little stickers (like a heart or butterfly) for free that you can put on to see how dark you get.

I have been tanning for two weeks and it has made a BIG differennce.

They have booths and beds, I do the beds. I like them better and when I did try the booth my ankles and feet did not get tan. Seems to be a problem for a lot of people. I go naked, no one will see you at all or you can wear what you like. Kim

Hi Greddy! I used Sulfer Soap and a stiff brush and still do. It's been almost a yr now that I have been doing this. I saw results in 2 wks. I also use a good lotion. Kim

HI Greddy

Hi Greddy, I have been too a few tanning salons, mainly the beds and as I have a rather big scar on my face, due to a horse accident as a child and another on my knee I was advised to cover both areas, as the scar tissue obviously burns quicker and is sensitive. I just place a flanner over my face and the same kind of thing over my scar on my knee. Something to keep in mind.

Just a question has anyone tried the spray on tan? Any results or a waste of time.

Cool question for oxy kim (and anyone else) re tanning

hi. i was just wondering about your tanning. i've been contemplating doing some to try and get some colour before going in the sun but i have a question first. the last time i was in a tanning bed was over 10 years ago so i don't really know what the advances have been. it seems to me i had a real problem with getting an even, all over tan. i see these girls who go to tanning beds and they have these perfect all over tans and i wonder how they do it. i just lie there and get the front and back of me burned and the sides stay white. any advice?

funny you should ask! I'm having that experience now, as I SLOWLY am building up in the ol' tanning bed. I am very fair skinned. (I'm only up to 10 min 2x week in the lowest level bed). when I asked 'em about the no-tanned sides, the salon folks said I'd have to build up more tolerance and then "upgrade" to the "super duper" (ie more expensive) beds. allegedly, they are bigger, stronger, have lights on the sides, etc. I think I'm OK with untanned sides, since I'm mainly trying to tan those areas where the KP are. sign me "streaked"

I have had that problem in the past w/ my sides not tanning. I just layed on my side a few times and that solved it. I don't really get the best tan in the beds, it's a base tan for me and I do get a nice color but it's when I go into the sun, that's when I get dark.

I am fair skinned and do not really tan at all. I usually burn. What was horrible was, I just got back from Hawaii and had to wear spf 45 the whole time. I got just a little color. People at work thought I would be so nice and tan, but nope not me. Tanning beds are ok if you don't make a habit out of them, I always use a tanning accelerator for dry skin. I used to tan in high school without it and it dried my skin out. The accelerator seems to help get a tan faster and moisturize your skin. Now they make them where it helps with the "tanning burn" smell you have afterward. I don't mind being pale at all, but I hate that the kp causes redness on and around the bumps.
