Hi Guys/Gals.
I am feeling really low at the moment 'cos I thought that I was getting somewhere with my KP, but now it seems that I'm not. I'm a 20 year old girl from the UK and am prone to KP all over, but it is currently mostly concentrated on my arms. I currently wash my body with a 10% BP Lotion and a 4% Chlorhexidine Wash. I also take Omega capsules each day, as I kept reading about how good these were for KP. My prob is since doing this, my KP has improved - but just on one arm! My right arm is almost clear (apart from a few marks), but my left is slightly rough and covered in hundreds of dark red dots. I saw a derm at the beginning of the month, and all he told me was to moisturise with an E45 lotion; this has done nothing - if anything, it has got worse on the left arm. Of course having one arm clear is better than 2 covered, but I have no idea why only one has got so much better? P.s: I was watching QVC the other day and they recommended Decleor Prolagene Gel - Has anyone used this? |

Re: First Post - Really Need Advice
Clarification for those of us in the States: what is BP lotion and what is E45?

Re: First Post - Really Need Advice
BP is an abbreviation for Benzoyl Peroxide (usually used to treat acne) and 'E45' is a popular moisturising cream containing Light liquid paraffin, white soft paraffin, anhydrous lanolin
Hope that helps - Sorry, thought that BP and E45 were international... |

Re: First Post - Really Need Advice
No worries, if I don't know I just try to ask.
I have always found BP too drying. Cleansers with salicylic acid in them are an option people try a lot around here. Those are often listed as "acne" treatments but they help loosen up the top layers of skin so you get some exfoliation. I don't know about the lotion. Depending what the paraffin is made from is could be pore blocking or it might not be. I prefer to use lotions that have ingredietns I know and can understand. a good list of what is comedogenic or irritating is here: Cosmetic ingredients with acne forming tendencies (comedogenic). Even though that is geared for acne, I find that the less I block my follicles, the better for my KP overall. I can't really guess as to why you are getting different results on your arms. on one hand could be the omega-3s and it's just taking a while for them to get to the left arm. maybe the BP is drying the left arm out too much, are you putting it on there and leaving it longer or anything? Not everything in our bodies is going to happen exactly symmetrically, don't you think? Keep us posted...

Re: First Post - Really Need Advice
Hi bunnyday,
Yes, BP can sometimes be too trying for me too, but as well as the KP, I am also prone to acne on my extreme upper arms/shoulders, so need to use it (it's the only thing that works!). I am trying to comfort myself by saying that if the right arm has improved, then it is possible for the left one to (eventually) do the same - not sure whether that is a cop out? Anyway, I am trying to get some Decleor Prolagene today as I continue to hear really good reviews about it. I am going to replace the E45, and use the prolagene instead - It's not cheap £35/$60 for 150ml... |
