1. My doctor said that I got this skin disease mot likley because one of my parents had it, but they aint, my dad got tendency to red cheeks which I got but nothing more, and my two siblings aint got any of it either. How come I got it?
2. Is there anything that treats redness on cheeks well? I got much bumps aswell but I dont mind them very much.

Re: Curious

Welcome Halmfast!!

About your questions:

1. Your derm took the most simple and obvious explanation, even its valid, is not the only one. The fact that your parents have a predisposition in their genes to have a disease doesnt mean they will express it for sure or that you are going to express it in the same degree as they do. Maybe both of them are recessive (50% each) for kp and you inherited each one of those genes, thats why you expressed it (this is a simplified way to explain how it could be, kp genetics is much more complicated).

My case is similar to yours, my parents dont have it, either my grandparents, aunts or uncles or my brother but my sister and i have it and mine is a severe case...... and my cousins cases are mild. I read that we can inherit it from our great grandparents, as you can see, previous generations genes also play a role.

Another thing is the environment you are in, kp could be severe for a person who lives in a dry and cold weather but could be almost unnoticeable if he lived in a humid and warm weather, hormons are related too and what we eat....

2. For the cheeks redness, the most accepted and proven treatment is laser but theres others. We have a forum about kprf where you can find lots of information:
