RETIN-A for KP

I've been using Retin-A for my KP on my chest. It's really actually used for Acne. But it dries it up really bad and makes it sensitive to the sun.

Question is, i think it's getting worse...it looks like it. It also looks like it's peeling.. Is that bad? Should i stop? Is it because it gets so dry it peels?

should i stop? starting to itch alot too

Re: RETIN-A for KP

let me just tell you that be VERY careful.... i used retin-a (tretinoin) on my face.for acne.. & my skin peeled sooooo bad & it dried my skin so bad.. my face became PINK for 4 months 3 months while using it & 1 month after i stopped... so i looked like a pizza BUT
now my face became so much eventoned after i didn't put anything.(i just let the little oil our skin produces repair the damage) & i onlly break out but not as bad as before. so if ure going to use it somewhere dont go in the sun it will make ure skin peel in public :S
also my Kprf did become less bumpy but very pink while using retina on it, so im thinking of using tretinoin just on my sides of the face for that kprf

PS: i was told & read everywhere that there was an "IB" initial breakout when under retina at some point.. BUT i NEVER got the ib... & if you want to stop go ahead it all depends on how you feel. In my opinion i would stop only if it gets really irritated & painful which i did when my face was just to pink....it was abnormal!

Re: RETIN-A for KP

i have a question about retin a.
Lets say it does work for the kp. Do you need to keep using it for the rest of your life? Because at the label (retin-a micro .025 it says- use for 4-6 weeks...)

I've used retin A since i was in high school, and i am 26 now. Retin-a somehow keeps cells from sticking together and loosens acne plugs and helps shed them out. Ive used it for years on my face. I get KP on my butt, so i have been using my retinA for my face there, because it tends to get bad down there, and looks like pimples! I think it helps it out, though sometimes if i put it on too often the skin is really delicate and hurts. Whoever is putting it on t heir chest, its probablyy really sensitive there. I would avoid doing it every day. You also don't want to go out in the sun if you use retin A, i use it on my face and always always always use sunscreen.

Re: RETIN-A for KP

I use retin-A micro 0.1%.

For sunscreen it varies...i only use natural sunscreen and the maximum SPF is 30 on those (i use zinc oxide suncreens).

Re: RETIN-A for KP

I've been using retin A for at least a month now, .025%. My KP and KPRF are getting better, although I can't say for sure if its retin A or because I've started oil pulling last week.

Re: RETIN-A for KP

I have used retin A on my face for years for mild acne and I love it (as long as i use sunscreen every day, but I recently tested it on one thigh for my KP for a few months. I saw no improvement and in fact i think it may have made it worse, just my personal experience...

Re: RETIN-A for KP

retina does work better tha AHA and BHA. It will cause irritation unfortunately. I experienced what juet did on my arms though. I used the 0.1% gel on my arms everyday for about 3 weeks and they were itching BAD. Skin was peeling heavy but all the bumps went away. I had to stop becuase my arms had a big red rash were I had been using it. And like juet it took a good month for that redness to go.

Retin a is potent stuff.

But i think retinoids work best on KP. Thye get rid of bups and the red dots. eventually. It cause skin to exfoliate from the inside out as opposed to AHA and BHA.

I suggest mixing retin a with a moisturizer like cerave cream. That is what im goiung to do.

0.1% retin a(im going to use tazrorac) mixed with cerave cream ot lotion.
Im going to cut it 5 times to make the retin A only 0.02% strength. You can sart off using it straight if your KP is bad then tape down. I think retin a is too harsh to use straight permanently.

I think using the retin-a/cerave mixture every second day/or everyday if you can handle it and an AHA like Amlactin or something in the morning is best.

Ask your derm about hydrocortisone too. It will help your itching and redness you get from retin a.
But ask your derm first!
