Re: RETIN-A for KP

Are you saying you are using more than a pea size? It doesn't take much to do the job here. If you are peeling, you could try using retin-a just every other day until the peeling stops, then go back to daily use.

Retin -a is only supposed to be used once a day. Perhaps you would like to read this:
Retin-A (Tretinoin Topical) - Indications and Dosage

In the case of retin-a, more is not better.

My treatment: Oil pulling daily; candida diet (minimum of carbs, no sugars); omega-3 from canned salmon and sardines; sun exposure 10-15 minutes, 3 days a week, without sunblock; program to strengthen immune system; probiotic supplements; lots of water; moderate daily exercise; exfoliation with epsom salts and sugar several times a week. KP reduced 99%. If I go "off diet" -- grains, sugars, etc. -- or stop oil pulling, KP returns.

Re: RETIN-A for KP

wow, this was last year. No i don't use retin-a anymore, as my acne was caused because of not enough intake of water lol... anyways, i still use retin-a once every 2 months for the kprf... i do it once every 2 months because it peels your skin in a zap and i let it sit for a month so that my skin repairs and because i usually go out and each time i do it... my kprf reduces more and more... =) id say itll be 2011 till it completely goes away, but its all good.

Re: RETIN-A for KP

Hi!, I've had KP in my shoulders, chest, upper arms, low back and butt for like 15 years. I've tried many things (AHAs, coconut oil, sugar scrubs, urea creams, etc) with no luck.

Almost a year ago, I started using Retin-A for KP as prescribed by my dermatologist, along with an ointment with vaseline and 10% salicylic acid.

At first, my skin got really bad. It peeled, got red and sensitive, it took almost 2 months before it got used to Retin-A. After that, I've noticed a slow but steady improvement. Right now I can say my skin looks 70% better, and it keeps improving every month.

My recommendation is to start with the lowest strength, .025, every other night, maybe just for a few hours. Apply it always on clean and totally dry skin (this is important to prevent irritation), and use a greater strength as you tolerate it, until you can use 0.1. It's also important to keep your skin moisturized, I use lactic acid lotion for this.

I try also to eat lots of vegetables and fatty fish, to provide enough vitamins and omega3s, which are good for skin and overall health.

In my experience, Retin-A has really helped. It takes time before you see results, but they come eventually.
