Re: Epsom Salt Bath Works

Guys, I will eventually (next week) move this thread to the treatment options forums because this is the general discussion forum.

Just to keep the website organized.

My treatment:
Daily scrubbing with Homemade Salicylic Acid Scrub; soap: homemade vegetable glycerin & essential oils. I always moisturize with organic oils. Omega 3 supplements from Mercury Free Fish Oil. Arms 100% clear.

As of January 2010: My KP has returned but this time on my thighs and a little bit on the sides of my body. Maybe it is stress related or the fact that I left my skin without exfoliating on December.

Also have psoriasis which Derm prescribed for short term use Clobetasol.
As of Jan 2010: I'm back on Clobetasol for a month.

Re: Epsom Salt Bath Works

before you started the epsom bath, how bad were the dark spots on your skin caused by kp.. i'll send you a picture so you know what dark spots i'm talking about. cause these dark spots are what i want gone. so i want to know if your spots were a mild case cause if they were then the epsom bath may cause little or no difference.

Re: Epsom Salt Bath Works

OK

Here is my routine.

I do espom salt baths at night for 15-30 mins. Then immediately, I take a shower. In the shower I use St. Ives Apricot Scrub with 2% salicylic acid/oilfree which acts as my exfoliater since it has small beads. After the shower I put on a light coat of AmLactin moisturizing body lotion. (both of these subtances were reccomended by my derm who specializes in KP and had it herself)

In the mornings, I oil pull for 15-20 mins. My skin is about 95% bump free. Every day it becomes better and better. The dots on my legs are at a point where you can barely notice them. The redness on my arms are fading.

I am new to this routine and will keep it going for a good period. IF you can't espom, then try those two products. I'm a hardcore kind of guy, and I like the extra benfits of epsom and oil pulling.

Don't forget about improving your diet.

Re: Epsom Salt Bath Works

While reading about Epsom Salts on the internet, I came across this product that may be of use to treating KP. This lotion is meant to treat muscle pain -- the epsom salts it contains will be absorbed by the skin. The web page says, "where epsom salt works its wonders for pain relief, gently exfoliates skin and smoothes rough patches."

Epsom-It | Epsom Salt Pain Relief Lotion | epsom-it.com

KP reduced 99%. If I go "off diet" -- grains, sugars, etc. -- or stop oil pulling, KP returns.

Re: Epsom Salt Bath Works

^ if that works exactly the way epsom salt bath does... then i can imagine it having a certain success among KP suffers who don't have time to bath everyday.

i'm gonna start epsom salt baths when i get the salt first and that may take a few weeks...

Re: Epsom Salt Bath Works

Yes, it will work the same way as an epsom salt bath. Here's why:

The magnesium and sulfate in the salts are absorbed into the body through the skin. Because the sulfur is already in the sulfate form, it does not need to be converted like other forms of sulfur do. Sulfate is thought to circulate in the body up to about nine hours. Any Epsom salts left on the skin may continue to be absorbed as long as it is still on the skin, offering continuous ‘timed-released’ input into the bloodstream – like medications given through skin patches.
From: Epsom Salts, Phenols, and Sulfur

And here is a recipe from the same link for making your own epsom salt cream/lotion:

Heat some Epsom salts with a little water to dissolve them. I put about one teaspoon of water in three tablespoons of salts and microwave for a minute or so. Add more water if necessary. Then mix this into four ounces of any lotion or cream you like. I have used suntan lotion, handcream, cocoa butter, body lotion, aloe vera cream, whatever I find that is on sale or inexpensive without the chemicals I am trying to avoid. This seems to work better if the cream or lotion is water-based rather than oil-based. Apply to skin anywhere as often as desired. Some new commercially prepared Epsom salt creams are available but can be very expensive and may contain chemicals that are not tolerated.

I just made my own epsom salt cream yesterday for the first time and slathered it on after my shower. It will become a part of my daily regimen.

Re: Epsom Salt Bath Works

Noobie,

A simple exfoliation recipe:

Take about two spoonfuls (like soup spoons) of epsom salts. Add one spoonful of oil. You can use olive oil, or coconut oil, or almond oil. Any oil that you could eat.

Get in the shower and get wet all over. Rub this mixture gently over your wet skin. Shower or bathe it off. Your skin may still feel a little oily. That is OK.
