Possible way to reduce redness...
I totally stumbled upon this by accident. I was making my baby some baby food and mashed up some avocados. She of course spit it out instantly and refuses to eat them. Instead of wasting them I decided to use it for my KP. (I have been experimenting with lots of different methods and all have failed.)
Cut an avocado in half and scoop out the goods. Take a generous amount and rub it onto your arms, massaging in until it almost disappears. Leave it on for 15-30 minutes and then rinse off. I was amazed at how smooth my arms felt (smoother than after applying lotion). I noticed an immediate reduction in redness. My husband laughed at me and thought I was wasting time with the avocado. But I had him check my arms to make sure I wasn't just seeing less redness because I so desperately want to hide those nasty red bumps. He, too, saw results instantly. I have only done this 2 times now, and because the redness is lesser than it was prior to trying this, I felt I should post a thread to see if anyone else notices less redness. Internet research indicates avocados are excellent for the skin. I also discovered avocados are great for reducing inflammation (which is why we see redness in the first place). Instead of buying items with avocado as an ingredient, I am just going straight to the source. While this stuff is on my skin, I feel a slight/major tingling sensation. I will still exfoliate with a loofah or something similar, but I am going to use avocado arm masks for at least 6 weeks to see if I continue to see less red. I will keep everyone posted, even if this method fails. I heard that eating avocados regularly is good for your health and the overall appearance of your skin, but I am not ready to eat them daily especially if the simple mask works. The only other thing that has ever helped my redness is by hiding it with makeup...but even then, you cannot do it during the day because the sun or any light makes your arms look worse! Tanning has helped, but that was back in high school and I have tried it a couple of times since and I burn instead of tan. One last thing--I noticed LESS RED, but not drastically. I am only posting this because of the fact I noticed LESS RED so quickly. I have never experienced any bit of less red EVER since the condition first appeared back when I was 12 or 13 years old. I am almost 29 now and I have seen NO IMPROVEMENT in my condition. If a little more red disappears after each use, in 6 weeks I should see vast improvement. But this is just speculation. I would estimate I have reduced 5% of the redness after just one use. But 5% is really exciting considering the redness has never gone down unless I religiously tanned in a tanning bed. |
