KP and anxiety/picking, and is Candida really related?

I'm new here. I have had KP all my life, and have picked since the age of 5. Ive never really treated it much. I was given a cream from the derm. that didnt seem to do much and thats pretty much all I have tried and im in my 30's. Whenever im stressed I pick the heck out of my arms to the point where I cant wear short sleeve shirts.

So, I started googleing the condition again and found this site. I didnt realize there were so many treatments so I will start reading up.

My Mom has it as well but is much better about exfoliating and such. She also has struggled with Candida and IBS and when I saw all the mentions of Candida I had to wonder.

I had no idea it was related to KP. I do eat alot of dairy ( which causes it right? ) but I dont have the other symptoms I don't think

anyways just thought I would pick your brains a bit.

Thanks so much

Welcome Anxious - I'm going to jump in here right away. From what I have read, there are several things that can upset a person's digestive process which will interfere with absorption. Some of those things may overlap or one may cause the other, e.g. if you are allergic or sensitive to a food, it may cause inflammation in your intestines which may provide an environment that's easier for candida or other "bad" gut flora to take over or it may just cause absorption problems and histamine release. Either or any way, elimination diets are considered a fine diagnostic method for determining allergies. Dairy is only one of many common allergies - I do not believe myself that everyone with KP has to eliminate it but for some, if they are allergic, of course. There is more info at Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America - Information About Asthma, Allergies, Food Allergies and More!

You also may wish to use the Search function here as there are LOTS of posts to weed thru! My favorite recommendations are,
genetics, epigenetics, etc:
Potential causes of KP
Eczema, "Leaky Skin", KP, dermatitis & the lack of a gene
http://www.keratosispilaris.org/memb...t-you-eat.html (yes, I'm quoting myself... but really it points to a NOVA video!)

azelaic acid (produced by a beneficial yeast on normal skin):
The Sea Buckthorn Treatment Guide
http://www.keratosispilaris.org/sear...earchid=153142

and then get familiar with the Search function at the top of the page and look for calcium, vitamin A, vitamin E, and whatever else seems to strike a chord with you. - Good Luck, bunnyday

Hi AB,

Welcome to the KP Forum. There isn't much I can add to bunnyday's fine reply, but I would encourage you to eliminate diary from your diet for 30 days to see if that makes a difference.

There is no point following an anti-candida diet if you don't have candidiasis. There is an on-line test that can help you determine this:
Dr. Crook's Candida Yeast Test
