Thumbs up Mild Tanning is Working!

Hello all!
Although I'm not too fond of tanning because of it's health risks (and because I tend to burn more easily than most due to my very fair skin), I have found that doing just some mild tanning for about a week now has improved my KP a great deal! For the past week or so I have done 3 sessions of just 7 minutes each and it's helped dramatically! I went to a tanning salon and was required to purchase a lotion and because of my very fair skin they recommended "halo" by DesignerSkin which is a tanning bronzer (self-tanner) that blocks the UVB rays which cause burning and only allows the UVA rays that cause tanning to your skin. So far it's working, because the skin that I have used the lotion on has been burn-free, and the skin that I haven't applied the lotion to has burned a little bit. I even used the lotion on my arms and it's still been able to let the rays do their thing on my KP! My arms are MUCH smoother and you can barely see the redness and this is really unlike me because I don't tan easily and I have a VERY bad case of KP. I also used my old bottle of Neutrogena's Skin Smoothing lotion each night after tanning and that's helped moisturize my arms now that the tanning "burned" off the outer layer of skin so that's probably helping too. The first time I used that after tanning I noticed that my skin was flaking off while I was applying it and it's been smooth ever since! Sorry my message was so long... I just wanted to let you all know that something's finally helping my stubborn case!!

Banana Boat self-tanner worked for me.

Hi Surfurgerl!

I was using a self-tanning spray oil by Banana Boat that worked great for my bumps and redness. The only problem with the product is that it has the characteristically awful smell of self-tanning products at least when it's being activated. Other products in this class did not work. Also, other forms of Banana Boat self-tanners did not work. Only the spray oil did.

I don't know what in it was the key. I was thinking that the tanning lotion you used may have been the key instead of the tanning itself.
What do you think?

Also, in the past I used a liquid soap by Freeman with Pineapple in it. This kept me silky smooth. I can no longer get this product. It would make sense that the papain enzyme in pineapple would break up the keratin bumps. Another pineapple cleanser I tried did not work.

Catherine
