Keratosis Pilaris - A simple solution to a simple skin problem

Keratosis Pilaris - A simple solution to a simple skin problem
Keratosis Pilaris (K P) is a skin condition, rather than a disease, caused by the accumulation of dead skin around hair follicles. The propensity toward K P may be inherited.

More often than not, you'll feel K P before you see it because it is most commonly found over the outer upper arm and outer upper thighs. If you raise your arms and turn them slightly , you'll be able to see the rough, almost goose-bump-like, raised papules. The fine bumps, the size of grains of sand can be skin-coloured or slightly red in appearance.

The condition is generally worse in the winter and often clears in the summer. It is self-limiting and disappears with age.

Moisturizing washes and lotions, especially those containing exfoliating agents, such as GlytoneŽ Exfoliating Body Wash and Body Lotion are often soothing and help reduce the number of K P papules. Tretinoin (Retin AŽ) is occasionally prescribed for severe cases. Non-medical treatments such as hot baths and the use of loofa-type scrubs also help alleviate the K P bumps.

Keratosis Pilaris is a benign skin condition with no associated disease. There are no complications. People who are prone to K P may want to use glycolic acid moisturizing lotions and washes on a regular basis.

Treatment
GlytoneŽ Exfoliating Body Wash is highly effective in removing dead skin cells as you wash in the shower or bath. it contains glycolic acid at a high enough concentration to slough off old, dry skin leaving the skin smooth and silky to the touch. Yet GlytoneŽ Exfoliating body Wash is gentle enough to use daily.

A recent press release from the Skin Cancer Foundation expressed the opinion that exfoliating dead skin cells is one good way to help avoid skin cancer because aberrant skin cells can be removed before they cause harm.

GlytoneŽ Body Lotion contains distinctive emollients and glycolic acid to smooth and hydrate the skin. It has more than four to five times the glycolic content of even the strongest over-the-counter AHA moisturizer and is available only through physicians. GlytoneŽ Body Lotion rids your skin of dry, sun damaged and dead skin cells leaving a soft, smooth feel that you'll love to touch.

These products are available at LaserMed™-Ottawa.

I'm sooo sorry for makiing fun of something that's written in your text, but I just laughed out loud when I read "A simple solution to a simple skin problem " !!!

I don't know if it's because I just cannot believe this awful skin I have can addmit a "simple" solution or because I just can't believe this is a "simple" skin!!!! This skin is HELL and reading this just made me laugh, I'm so sorry!

I'll read the text now.

mtjring, can you please tell me how your skin was before your tried the products on skincarerx? I have very red bumpy skin. Was yours also red and did the redness disappear? One more question, is you KP pretty much gone or is it still noticeable?

it sounds like someone who works for glytone. how ridiculous. it's definitely not a simple problem with a simple solution if there's an entire forum that still yields minimal success stories dedicated to eradicating the problem.

My skin was not horrible before I started using glytone, I try not to pick which really helps to keep the redness away for me. I think I had an average case. The glytone kit works great especially if you use the lotion when your skin is still wet. The only thing bad is you have to be consistent. But then again, I think any product you use with kp you have to use everyday or it will come back. I thing anything with glycolic acid is great because it exfoliates but it also moisturizes. Ive actually just ordered the 20% AHA lotion that was mentioned on another thread. I think the combo of using the glytone kit and this strong lotion will really make a huge difference.
