That there are dermatologists out there that can misdiagnose a patient? I don't think I have kp but I was said to have it... I just have ingrown hairs that get irritated when I shave. Or at least that's what I think. Does anyone else feel that they may not have kp?

Re: Do you think. . .

Hello...I, too, thought that I was just experiencing ingrown hairs (on my shins) that seemed to get irritated when I shaved but I went to the dermatologist and asked her how to get rid of them (I had been exfoliating my legs daily and the bumps just seemed to be spreading) and she said "those aren't ingrown hairs, that's kp. So I started exfoliating once a week and reduced shaving down to every couple of days and it's down to just a few bumps on each leg---nothing worth worrying about. Hope this helps!

Oh I see. It's hard just because you can get the 2 confused I guess. Irritation (ingrown hairs/kp). So it's not a good idea to exfoliate everyday? And since what you seem to have (a few bumps on each leg), that's what mine seems to be like. Did it help you to exfoliate just every once in a while rather than everyday?

Thank you.

Re: Do you think. . .

Everyone is different but I found that before I went to the derm I was trying to take care of what I thought was ingrown hairs by exfoliating everyday and it only made matters worse. Now that I know it's kp I only exfoliate weekly because with my skin, too much exfoliating makes my kp flare up and spread. Just test it out, see what works for you and good luck!
