Hello everyone,

I have moderately bad kp over the backs of my arms and tops of legs.

However,all across my shins I have hundreds of wee bumps,that are not like raised red spots but flat,purplish/reddish dots...and they look absolutely terrible!

They defintely do differ from the kp I have everywhere else,so I am just wondering if there is anybody out there who could tell me if they know anything about these dots,or even whether they have them themselves?

I would be v grateful because they make me quite self-conscious,espcially in the summertime.

Lichen Planus... maybe? Look it up online... I haven't really heard of many things being purple besidesdifferent variants of hair bumps sometimes (folliculitis or pseudofolliculitis)

These are just things I bumped into when I was researching the KP?

thank you for those suggestions but i looked those up and its definitely none of them,its not as severe!

i am sure if anyone out there could see what i meant they would recognise right away...i see it on the calves of so many people,and especially overweight people.dont know if that might help someone out there who might know what I mean.

Have you considered seeing a dermatologist? They may be able to identify the flat dots.

the kp on my shins are also flat dots. I just think it's because the hair follicles on my legs are different. mine are kind of a caucasian skin color that's darker than the rest of my skin.

This will seem dumb but tdo you think they could just be stretchmarks or vericose veins/spider veins?

All of these things come in different shapes ands sizes.

Go to google images and start typing in different things, maybe a matching picture will surface for you and give you a lead. Good Luck!

I have KP on my upper legs and on the back of my arms. I have the dots too (on my lower legs) and I'm not overweight (55kg for 1m68). Tried taking a pic, but they're not visible on it! :-s It's KP, or at least I think it is... and mine have reduced in size & color since I've been using SBT soap though... now they're more dark red/brownish and way less visible!

hi kebod,yes i have an appointment with my doctor soon...where i live you have to go through your gp to make an appointment with a dermatologist.

LDRAJ,they are def. not varicose veins or stretchmarks...i know a few people with v.veins and they are not really like these dots at all and as for stretchmarks i know they arent the same either as when i stretch out my skin the dots kind of fade...they look more like ive got a pin and *****ed all over my leg with red ink!but thank you anyway for your suggestions!

Im not overweight either,im actually pretty thin,could that even be causing it in us??i doubt it but i am just so puzzled as to what these dots are but it is nice to know you also understand!
what is the sbt soap you mentioned?did you think it did quite a good job in reducing their appearance then?

i think i know what you are talking about...like your thighs get purple like when its cold huh?!!? and after a shower usually...but once you rub your thighs down with lotion it returns to normal skin color huh?!?!

Thanks for your suggestion but unfortunately they are there all the time and only go away if i sort of pinch the skin...when i release it again they re-appear.

I think it is probably a bit of kp thats just flat,it probably just appears differently on the legs.

I believe I might have the same condition. Sometimes they appear red but for the most part they are purple. they dont go away. When I rub lotion on my legs, they go away but only when I am rubbing them. Someone on this site speculated that they were vascular (almost like broken blood vessels) but I'm not sure. Keep us posted on what your Doctor says. I would be interested myself to hear.

Maybe this could help to identify what they are?
Though I think you are all right and it is indeed just a different form of Kp!
