Smile Oil pulling success!

I was diagnosed with KP last Monday, May 5th. My derm gave me a listing of 3 creams to try. I couldn't find ANY of them in the local CVS. On Tuesday, May 6th, I got on the web and found this community and discovered the practice of oil pulling. Since I figured any lotion was going to be more expensive than oil and I HATE to put lotion on I decided to give it a try. What did I have to lose???? It was said my teeth would get whiter - hey I'm up for that. My husband decided to give it a try as well. I bought virgin untoasted sesame oil. It cost about $ 9.00 at Giant. I started on Wednesday, May 7th. On Thursday, May 8th, I thought... I don't think I have any new ones.... of course I was HOPING I didn't... HOPING I wasn't just thinking this to myself. By Friday, I was pretty sure there wasn't anything new. On Saturday it was evident... things were getting better. My husband didn't believe me - until he FELT me - for that purpose. In the excitement of life in general, I kinda forgot about it.... but I kept up pulling every morning. This morning on the way to the gym, my husband asked "hows your bumps?" I said "well, I don't know... kinda forgot about it. I leaned forward.... he said - your back is smooth... your arms are smooth.... your tummy is smooth...... I pulled up my shorts to reveal the worst spot I had.... & it was gone... all but the scars. OMG So......... I'm SOLD. Theres NO WAY I'd stop this now.... my teeth are whiter too Soooo... Thanks all for the pertinent and very important revelation to me! Perhaps I'll not go .... course I realize that something is gonna drive me but at least it won't be das!

Re: Oil pulling success!

Wow, Honeynajar, this is an even better success story than mine! Good for you!

I'm going to copy this on the "What Works for You" thread.

You haven't been doing OP for too long, so you may still notice some other changes for the better. Some things to look for:
fewer wrinkles and crows feet lines, softer skin
more comfortable periods
greater energy
less ear wax (don't ask me why...)
more acute sense of taste
And if you are of a more "mature" age:
less achy joints
less gray hair

Please let me know if you notice any changes like these, or maybe even different ones.

A lot of people here have said that OP doesn't do anything for them, but every now and then, a post like yours comes along and makes it all worth it. Thank you for posting.

And you get recognition for the most creative use of the smilie.

Re: Oil pulling success!

Thanks Kebod & John!

As for your "things to look for" let me answer them now... and we'll see how things progress...

Some things to look for:
fewer wrinkles and crows feet lines, softer skin - I haven't noticed less wrinkles or crows... but I'm gonna be looking from now on......
more comfortable periods - hyster 4 years ago - so its BEEN comfy since... lol
greater energy - YES I have noticed that!
less ear wax (don't ask me why...) Gonna watch
more acute sense of taste - not yet but my increased sense of smell is driving me INSANE

And if you are of a more "mature" age:
less achy joints - they keep trying to say I have fibromyalgia or maybe even Lupus - presently testing.... so I'll take a side effect like this any day!
less gray hair - I started getting grey hair at 13, and I dye my hair. I have to color it every 3 weeks... so this will be interesting - I'll give you an update if my hair color comes back! It was 100% white before treatment commenced.

All in all it is gonna be an interesting ride - slippery too with the oil!

Re: Oil pulling success!

Wow, congrats! I wish I had this kind of success when I was oil pulling. I do have some questions for you, though. How severe was your KP to start with? What is your diet like? When did you start developing KP?

Talking Re: Oil pulling success!

I've had seasonal spots on the back of my arms for decades - then 6 years ago it started on my torso. My GP diagnosed me with winter dry skin. I struggled with it for the past six years then in February it EXPLODED, moved to my legs and covered pretty much everything from the breast line down. I thought I was allergic to something and was waiting it out but it was getting progressively worse along with my face flush. I went to a derm and she immediately diagnosed my face as rosecea and my body as KP. She suggested I try Carmol-20 or Ultramide 25, orAmlactin XL as I don't have a RX plan. I couldn't find any of them in my local pharm or Walmart. That led me to this community. My face has lightened considerably as well. That help? wishing the same success with you for sure!

Re: Oil pulling success!

Can anyone explain to me what Oil Pulling is? I'm new to this community and I'm clueless. I had Keratosis for years now, but never heard of this.
THANX.

Re: Oil pulling success!

Cata,

Ideally, the oil is unrefined and organic. The best way to find this kind is at a natural food store or health food store. Some large supermarkets also have "health food" sections and carry organic oil. Suggested oils to start with are sunflower and sesame (untoasted). You can also use coconut oil.

When you first start, you can use a lesser amount, like 1-2 teaspoons, and work up to one tablespoon. Also, you can do it for less time, like start with 5 minutes, and gradually increase the time to 20 minutes if oil in your mouth feels too strange. For some people, doing the full amount for the full time right from the beginning is no problem.

All things work together, so eating very healthy, taking omega 3 supplements or eating foods high in omega 3 (salmon, sardines, walnuts, ground flaxseeds), moderate daily exercise and plenty of water will all help your general health and make oil pulling more effective.

Let us know if you try it.

Re: Oil pulling success!

Cata,

I bought Extra Virgin Sesame Oil (untoasted) in the oil section of my local Giant. VERY light with a smooth lite nut flavor.

Re: Oil pulling success!

I can't wait for my lotion (Uremol HC) to be done with. Although my dermatologist said to go see her after i finished my second bottle of lotion and if my KP hasn't diminished, i think i'll go straight to oil pulling. Lotions almost seem like a waste of time and some of these success stories just make me think that this could work for me. I only have some KP on the back of my arms and near the shoulder blades.

I got 1 question though: If your KP goes way with oil pulling, do you have to continue oil pulling? Will the KP come back? I know oil pulling has all these benefits, but i'm just curious if i would have to oil pull for the rest of my life .

I can't wait! Thanks for sharing.

Re: Oil pulling success!

Jaslar,

I expect to do OP for the rest of my life. It really isn't a cure, but rather a treatment to keep it diminished. I can't even cut back to 10 minutes a day, instead of 20 minutes. I tried it for a week, and my KP started returning.

It has become such a regular morning routine, that I have no problem doing it every day.
