Re: A very severe case of KP, what is the most intensive treatment available?
The bump or that hill of excess keratin as you called it is only the visible part of the plugged follicle. The follicle is supposed to be a well-like structure, a hole that channels downward, open, deeply below the skin's surface. A KP-affected follicle is something like a well that is packed full of concrete, and covered by a small mountain of more concrete. So peeling will not go below the skin surface,it can flatten the bumps but the follicles will still be plugged that is why you have to go deeper, and to go deeper you need a substance that will dissolve the remaining excess keratin so that the pore would eventually shrink back and be able to function properly.

Re: A very severe case of KP, what is the most intensive treatment available?
I honestly think removing skin once - even if you remove it very deep down, would not probably work. KP is caused by follicles being plugged with keratin right? So even if you somehow removed all the keratin in the follicles once, you would still have follicles and whatever was blocking them would continue to block them. To use an analogy, it's like if you were obese, even if you had extreme liposuction but you continued to overeat, you'd get fat again.
If you somehow managed to remove the follicles permanenlty then you wouldn't have KP anymore, but you'd probably have to look like a burn victim. I wouldn't try anything too strong. About a year ago when I was desperate with my legs and didn't know what was causing it so I used a loofah to rub a small patch of skin on my leg to remove the top layer of skin completely so it bled. I was left with an ugly scar which is thankfully mostly faded now, but the KP came back. So it won't work. I can see the merit in removing all the keratin that's there in a way if that's what a peel would do, but it would come back without acids or something and in which case you might just wait a bit longer and use acids to remove the ones that are there too. I honestly believe the only way to fix KP is to find out what the cause is and fix that or it'll keep coming back. Can I ask how long you tried the KP soap before giving up? Just because it took me about a month to be pretty sure it was clearing and I've been taking capsules which might speed it up. I'm only asking because you said you did see it worsen when you tried it which would suggest some kind of reaction.. And have you tried any of the other methods (oil pulling, diet changes etc)? I mean you can go down the acid route if you want but I wouldn't rush it if you do. I totally empathize with your feelings and I don't ever date and couldn't really imagine ever doing so until I fix my KP. But I'm feeling a lot better because I think the SB is working. I don't know, just hang in there. There's always lots more options to try and new ones might be discovered. |

Re: A very severe case of KP, what is the most intensive treatment available?
Nah, my KP is so harsh and agressive that I'd really wouldn't want to start checkin out some random treatments.. look, it's like.. my skin is a goddamn cemetary of dead skin cells, i've got to purify myself from this plague and destroy all those hideous piles of dead cells ,and maybe then i would start changing my diet or trying such moderate ways of treatment.
Right now, my KP's so over the line that I just rather spill all kinds of acids and crystals on myself, that will peel the hell outta my skin. |

It sounds like you're looking for a one-time solution, but there is no such thing. Controlling KP is a life-long process that you will have to commit to indefinitely. Please re-read Aynas's protocol. It is one of the best ways I've found to lessen the look of KP. Patience is key.

Re: A very severe case of KP, what is the most intensive treatment available?
Like orichamo, I would have been desperate to find a quick treatment for my kp, as my 10-year-old relationship with my husband is really being attacked by this disease. I had no idea this problem would affect this much as if only I knew, I would have gone for help. Now with a nearly broken relationship, and having a child I feel deeply lost. I feel so sad and see myself standing nowhere. Of course I wouldn`t allow anybody to treat me like this just because of my kp, but I need to be loved too. So with believing that such a thing shouldn`t have come between us, I also feel sad about having kp and think of a quick treatment.
I read about Niacin thing which looks promising . any news about progestrone creme? I am going to have my hormone levels checked.Sorry everyone if you find this post not very structured as it might partly come from my broken heart . |

Re: A very severe case of KP, what is the most intensive treatment available?
Shirin,
My heart goes out to you. If only I could put my arms around you right now! I hope your husband will be able to see that beauty is more than skin deep and see your true beauty within. There are steps you can take to lessen your KP, as many of us have found here. It sounds like you are already considering niacin and a hormone check. Take action and start trying different remedies. Check out Thread Devoted to What Works For You, a thread where I have copied posts from other threads that report successful results. Whatever you try, it may take weeks or months to see results. Be patient, be hopeful, and know that you are loved. kebod |

Re: A very severe case of KP, what is the most intensive treatment available?
orichamo, i understand were your coming from. you should just be careful not to permanently scar yourself.......i mean what if you go acid crazy and burn the hell out of your self and then in a couple of years theres a cure for kp? and now everyones cured including you but you look like a burn victim from the acids. that would suck.
the more pain you indure during radical treatments the more likely you'll get scared.

Re: A very severe case of KP, what is the most intensive treatment available?
Dear lovely kebod,
I just burst into tears when I read your sympathetic reply. I am disapointedly grabbing every and any solution I hear of. I started taking niacin but soon stopped it becuase of liver damage, it` not worth it. I had my hormones level checked just today, waitin for the result. no need to mention that applying coconut oil, exfoliation creams and gloves have been part of my daily rutine. But for me the bigger question still remains: Why hasn`t my husband -my love- seen my beauty in another way? Is that what I should be judged on in a relationship? my skin? if yes, so where does love stand? Oh God! Its been such a huge shock! |

Re: A very severe case of KP, what is the most intensive treatment available?
shirin,
sorry to hear that. im sure you'll find a better man. in my view, love is real but guided by infatuation. between a couple. you need to find a man who has a different point of view. but that will not take the pain away.edleast the pain is only temporary.

Re: A very severe case of KP, what is the most intensive treatment available?
Shirin, I don't mean to pry too much in your situation, but how is kp coming between you and your husband? I have gone back and forth with the idea of ending my 1-year relationship because of kp affecting our relationship later too.
