"What Works For You" Success Stories -- Products and Remedies
I would like to start a thread that is a collection of posts spelling out specific remedies and methods to diminish KP. This thread is not for what doesn't work, questions, pros and cons. It is just for WHAT WORKS. If you have questions about a particular remedy or method, use the search function to find where it is being discussed. If you can't find a thread on it, start a new thread.
Please post here if you have found a product or method that reduces your KP by at least 50%. Thank you, kebod Last edited by kebod; 02-26-2009 at 04:04 PM.. Reason: correct spelling |

I think this is a good idea, kebod. I got difficulties in finding post that I have read earlier about the cures. Putting it in one thread would make it much easier. Thanks

Hydro Foam 40 (Urea)
My doc from NY (with a PhD and md degree) prescribed Hydro Foam 40 for my keratosis pilaris. This moose like foam is expensive (50 co-pay) but it seems to be worth it. I've only used it 3 times and my skin is noticeably smoother. But I'm most impressed with the effects it's having on my face. I have keratosis on my face too and the red cheeks that goes with that. Not only has it removed the redness, smoothed the bump (which I use to think were razor bumps) but it's also cleared up blemishes and ingrown hairs, that I would get now and then around my neck. Again, these cans are expensive and because they come in 2.5 oz can as the large, you use it quick. None the less it's given me very promising results. I was motivated to write this because at work 3 people said that I looked pale and asked if I was feeling sick. I took a close look in the mirror and noticed the effects I hope my sharing this might help. -milo posted by Ladiesman Hydro Foam 40 (Urea) Last edited by kebod; 04-05-2008 at 05:02 PM.. re: "What Works For You" Success Stories -- Products and Remedies
(Baronster doesn't post on this forum anymore, but hers is a real success story. She approached the lessening or cure of KP from a food allergy standpoint. While this may not be the cause of KP for everyone, it made all the difference for her. Here is her first post from March '07. To read more, go to:
http://www.keratosispilaris.org/gene...page-76-a.html Read her final post on page 76 of her thread.) I found this website about a year ago, and realized everyone is trying to solve KP topically like my dermatoligists have suggested for the last 20 years. Creams , lotions, scrubs, exfoliants, microbermabrasion, laser hair removal, IPL treatments, you name it I've done it. I've spent countless hours and thousands of $$$$, and searching the net for advise, but most sites seem to have the exact same information. Then I discovered a natural cure for KP. (all sites say there is no cure) I sought a naturopathic doctor in Oct/06 in Vancouver. She used to suffer from Kp and showed me her perfect smooth skin, and she advised me we could clear mine by testing for food sensitivities, and avoiding those foods for about 3 months OR until they cleared. This test is called a "vega" test. It cost me $90.00, and I found out by the end of the test I was sensitive (NOT allergic) to 35 foods. For example I tested really bad for wheat, gluten, corn, milk, lactose, sugar, vinegar, red wine, red meat, tuna, crab/lobster, cottage cheese, cheddar cheese, as well as a host of other foods, including some fruits and vegs and so on....etc... So my challenge was to eat anything I wanted that I didn't test negative for. This seemed easy at first, but finding prepared foods without sugar and wheat and dairy and so on was impossible, so I had to make food at home and did not eat out or packaged foods for the last 4 months. I feel I had the worst case of KP ever. It was from my ankles all the way to my neck, (not on face) and I haven't worn shorts or a short sleeved shirts in 20 years. In two weeks I noticed a difference, and 4 months later, my skin is baby smoooooooooth, NO BUMPS!!!!!( i had really BAD bumps too, the ones on the back of my calfs and behind my knees felt huge and seemed to have been there years.) Now I touch my skin all day and marvel and how smooth and radiant it looks. I do reccomend usual exfoliation when bathing, but normal stuff that the average human does, I like sugar scrub and I massage coconut oil on my skin before bed, it smells great and your skin will love you for it. I took 2 retests which cost $ 45.00 each and every food has "cleared" except milk, lactose and corn, which my doc says I can still enjoy every once in a while. Let me remind you this is NOT allergies at all, this is about your body having a frequency and food does too, and sometimes they don't match, and it manifests as ailments including skin conditions, especially KP. It sounded strange to me as well, but I had nothing to lose, and really wanted to wear summer clothing this year, and not hide my body from boyfriends. I wanted to post this sooner, but I wanted to make sure that this is not going to be false hope for other people, but real, true, lasting results, that you can do just by adjusting your diet for a few months. In case any of you are wondering, I am now allowed to eat anything except milk, lactose and corn, so it wasn't that bad after all. Other benefits were I lost 40lbs, my candidia yeast level went form a 24 out of 30 to a 4 out of 30, ( you starve yeast from sugar to kill it) my blood pressure went from 130 over 88, to 110 over 80, and my menstral period went from a living 5 day hell and a bottle of midol, to 3 days of whatever and no meds required. I am so pleased I can share this will you all, and I hope this information will help some of you finally eliminate your KP naturally, my total investment for tests were $180.00. (not bad huh?) By the way if you get tested and need some advise on what alternatives to foods you can eat, I will be happy to share my experiences and experiements with you. I can tell you I have discovered so many yummy foods, that I will never go back to the way I ate before. Baronster Last edited by kebod; 04-05-2008 at 05:23 PM.. Reason: added link to original post |

re: "What Works For You" Success Stories -- Products and Remedies
I think this thread is an excellent idea. A summary of the success of others will help so many more people because there is so much on the site to look through but a lot of people just want to know what has worked.

This thread is a good idea but I think the main problem is that people don't post before and after pictures. You believe what you see.

What Works from Bunny Day
Re: The Long and Winding Road
An update of sorts. I ran out of Sea buckthorn capsules a few weeks ago and it took me a few weeks to order replacement. In the weeks that I was out of them my scalp bumps came back! what do you know? And now that I have some oil - I have the bottle of liquid not caps this time - and I started taking maybe a half teaspoon a day, the scalp bumps have faded away in about a week's time. That was an accidental test for me. Since I started using ACvinegar in my sugar scrub most of the time again too, my calves aren't getting the bad whiteheads almost at all. Got ONE yesterday, and hadn't had any for at least a week. So, again, sort of an accidental test but the sugar and vinegar scrub makes my skin feel so smooth I'm going to have to just keep going with it. Just started working on some bigger dietary changes but no news on that front really. - bd The Long and Winding Road |

Sea Buckthorn helped dmoney by 50%
Re: The Sea Buckthorn Treatment Guide
an update on my progress: I've been using the drink for 3-4 days now and my keratosis is about 50% clear. It was moderate to severe when i started, but now i'd say it's a mild case. I was just using the lotion and soap. they got me into the "way worse" phase, but when i started the drink i entered the "cure" phase. all i take is one shot (about one oz. i think) in the morning, after breakfast. dmoney From the sea buckthorn link: http://www.keratosispilaris.org/gene...-guide-10.html |

AmLactin XL helped KGNjammin 80-90% reduction
AmLactin XL Worked for me!
Hello all, I have been reading posts for about a month now without commenting and wanted to share some success. Firstly, I am 30 and have had KP since I was a teenager. It never got better with age only worse. Every couple years or so I would go to the Derm. hoping to find out if they could finally name what was on my skin and offer me a cure. Well, They just kept saying nothing really helps except moisturizing and sent me home with a few sample products. When I found this site on line I felt amazed that there were so many people who suffered from the condition. So anyways, I started with the coconut oil suggestion which actually did help a little bit. But I just went and bought AmLactin XL, pretty pricey 37-40$, and have been putting that on twice daily for about four days and my KP is 80-90% gone!!!! I know from reading that what works for every person is different but I had to share this lotion with you all.You can get it over the counter at a pharmacy. My only fear is that one day it will stop working. This is the first time in 15 years that my skin has ever started to clear up. I have it on my arms, thighs, and bum and it has helped in all areas. The arms took a little longer to clear. Anyways, feel free to ask me any questions. good luck and I am curious to know if anyone else has had success with this lotion? Twid Reduces flushing/redness by 50% without meds
Hey I havent been on here in a while because I dont like to think about all the negative aspects of this disease. I dont know if it is just coencidence but the past two weeks my face has been great. Maybe I am just losing hypersensitivity with self acceptance but my redness is down 50% and my flushing is down by 50% in frequency and power. Of course I am going to blush easier than your average person but thats ok. I have only turned very red 3 times during these two week (when it used to be a daily occurance).
In the past I have tried to think positively but I was never able to sustain the positive feeling because underlying I did not truly accept who I was. Having a better relation with ones redness will no doubt be empowering in so many ways. Twid To read details of Twid's method, see post #1 at: Something to consider: |

Anna Reduces KP by 50% with Sea Buckthorn
Re: Running out of options
Have you tried Sea Buckthorn? It's working really well for me. I think my KP must be 50% better now (it's been about 6 weeks). I don't think it works for everyone but there does seem to be a decent scientific reasoning behind it and I'm having great results. Kerol Redi Wipes after showering. (~$40 for two month supply, RX only)
Amlactin moisturizer twice a day. (~$18 for bottle. No RX needed, but you have to ask the pharmacist for it) When I stick to this, very few bumps and no redness. However, my case was never severe. If I don't do treatment, I just get a lot of bumps and a little redness. I never got little red spots. |

Anyas' Detailed Description of Exfoliation Treatment
Exfoliation Treatment in Stages
Here is a detailed account of how treatment works when one commits to a regimen of effective exfoliation. This is based on my experience in treating my case of KP and observations of others, and your experiences may differ. It may take a month or more just to accustom your skin to your exfoliation routine and build up to a frequency that will be effective, and only then can steady treatment begin. And not everyone who has KP will be at Stage One when starting. Some people may have milder KP or will have achieved some lessening of symptoms by using other forms of exfoliation. And most people have different severity of KP in different places on their bodies, so the timing for results will vary in each place. Other factors like delay in treatment (for how many years has your KP been left untreated and slowly worsening?), age of the sufferer (young people have a faster skin cell turnover than older people), and environmental conditions (obviously you will get faster and easier results if you're in a warm, moist climate versus a cold, dry one) can also affect treatment duration considerably. Choice of method matters, too, as physical/mechanical exfoliation is often faster than chemical means, especially when it comes to smoothing bumps. However, once you find your effective treatment, KP usually dissipates in a predictable pattern. I hope this information will help those who are not sure how exfoliation actually works to fight KP, and what results to expect at certain stages. note from kebod: to read the rest of Anyas' post # 11, go to A very severe case of KP, what is the most intensive treatment available? |
