Oil pulling Reduces Bumps

These are someposts from the early days of the Oil Pulling thread. The first post if from me:

On day 21 of oil pulling, I realized my skin was 90-95% clear of all the little bumps. Then I remembered that for two days before, my upper arms had felt more dry and crusty than usual, but I didn't think anything of it at the time, since that skin was never smooth anyway. I now think this was the KP condition drying up and sloughing off.
I took a trip to visit my sister for 3 weeks, and cut back my oil pulling to 10 min. each morning. The bumps started to come back. I resumed the 20 min. regimen, and they again diminished. For me, this was conclusive evidence that it was the oil pulling responsible for the clearer skin.

From Spot:
I've only been swishing for three days and my arms and legs are DRAMATICALLY smoother. The entire top half of my right arm is bump free. Very smooth.
As I've said, I've only been swishing for three days (I've only done 3 fifteen minute sessions thus far) with 100% sesame oil and I'm not even sure I've been doing it right because it still comes out yellowy, but foamy nonetheless. My arms and legs are still unsightly, due to the red dots which are still present, though.
I'm very stoked. Nothing has ever worked before (not even applying coconut oil -- hmm, might swish with that), and when I've heard of oil swishing, I was extremely skeptical. How can this method possibly help KP!? But it does, and I'm very glad I tried it.

From Moomagui:
I started oil pulling last Sunday after reading this topic. I've never seen SUCH dramatic results so fast, except maybe with tanning, which is horrible for your skin in the long run.
The KP on my left arm is clearing up faster than it is on the right, but the right side is also looking really good. The redness has toned down a lot, and whatever bumps I had are almost completely gone, and the same can be said for the KP on my thighs. It's getting better everyday.

Note from kebod,

Not everyone has had success with oil pulling, but the same can be said for every other suggested remedy on this forum.

Coconut oil, Eucalyptus, Tea tree oil Scrub Helps Moonlet

Coconut/Eucalyptus/Tea Tree Oil Scrub
My KP got pretty horrible over the winter - mostly because my current apartment is super dry, and I was too lazy to shave (which makes a huge difference). I had been using Eucerin Plus Intensive Body Repair Creme, but it's so gross and sticky (and not that effective).

Anyway, I started using a scrub of kosher salt, coconut oil, tea tree oil and eucalyptus that I make myself - just mix it all together before a shower and then scrub it on. I've been using it for about a month, and it's amazing how dramatic the difference is... the redness and bumps are almost completely gone on my arms, and there's just a tiny bit left on the back of my arms and my upper thighs. It also just feels really nice, and I don't have to moisturize after taking a shower (or ever, really), which is good because I'm super lazy.

I'm sure there are more effective methods out there, but I'm a slacker and this is really the first one I've been able to stick with. I have had KP since middle school, and I have never owned shorts or short skirts because I was so self-conscious... now I wear really cute summer dresses, and I'm starting to really like my legs (for the first time ever!). I do still have some KP and a little scarring, but I just don't care what people think anymore. That, I think, has made the biggest difference in my life...

KP Duty, Astringent and Nivea Soft Helps Liz

kp duty + astringent + nivea soft!
over the last week i have been using the kp duty in the shower religiously. You dont have to scrub, just massage, for as long as you can. Then i douse my arms in clean and clear cooling lotion and wait for it to dry. Then rub in loads of nivea soft creme and hey presto! My arms haven't looked so "normal " for years. They are smooth and most of the redness has gone too which was the worst thing for me, especially at this time of year when the sleeves get shorter!!I do all the above every night and just the cooling lotion and nivea soft in the mornings.
Truly, it makes me so happy. And if it's so good after a week it may have gone totally after two. Fingers crossed.
If this information helps just one other person out there who has suffered as i have then it'll be worth it.
good luck!

re: "What Works For You" Success Stories -- Products and Remedies

Liz,

Congratulations on finding something that helps. Would you rate your KP as severe or mild? Do you have redness? I posted this on the "What Works for You" thread, and I would like to include this information.

Thank you,

kebod

I also posted this solution to the "Commercial Products that Work" thread, but thought I;d add it here for anyone who might find it helpful. I have used KP Duty by Dermadoctor for about a year now and it has worked wonders for me. It is kind of expensive, but it really works. The product is at this link: Keratosis Pilaris

Success with Oil Pulling for Honeynajar

Oil pulling success!
I was diagnosed with KP last Monday, May 5th. My derm gave me a listing of 3 creams to try. I couldn't find ANY of them in the local CVS. On Tuesday, May 6th, I got on the web and found this community and discovered the practice of oil pulling. Since I figured any lotion was going to be more expensive than oil and I HATE to put lotion on I decided to give it a try. What did I have to lose???? It was said my teeth would get whiter - hey I'm up for that. My husband decided to give it a try as well. I bought virgin untoasted sesame oil. It cost about $ 9.00 at Giant. I started on Wednesday, May 7th. On Thursday, May 8th, I thought... I don't think I have any new ones.... of course I was HOPING I didn't... HOPING I wasn't just thinking this to myself. By Friday, I was pretty sure there wasn't anything new. On Saturday it was evident... things were getting better. My husband didn't believe me - until he FELT me - for that purpose. In the excitement of life in general, I kinda forgot about it.... but I kept up pulling every morning. This morning on the way to the gym, my husband asked "hows your bumps?" I said "well, I don't know... kinda forgot about it. I leaned forward.... he said - your back is smooth... your arms are smooth.... your tummy is smooth...... I pulled up my shorts to reveal the worst spot I had.... & it was gone... all but the scars. OMG So......... I'm SOLD. Theres NO WAY I'd stop this now.... my teeth are whiter too Soooo... Thanks all for the pertinent and very important revelation to me! Perhaps I'll not go .... course I realize that something is gonna drive me but at least it won't be das!

re: "What Works For You" Success Stories -- Products and Remedies

Hi everyone,

I have KP since I could remember. Over time it has gotten worst. It started it on the back of my arms. Then within the last 10 years on my thighs and most recently on my butt. I had the bumps with the red dots.

I was getting desperate my wedding & honeymoon was coming up in 8 months. I didn’t want people seeing these bumps. So I started exfoliating and moisturizing. Well that worked ok. I would say maybe 50% better but if I didn’t do it every day the next day they were back.

Also as far back as I could remember I was always constipated, even as a child. After I had my daughter it got worst and so did my KP. I never thought that they were related. But I think they are.

2 months before the wedding the KP was the same. Someone at work introduced me to Tea that "helps you go" It contains two ingredients Marshmallow root & Senna. I started drinking the Tea daily.

My constipation is under control (with the tea only) and my KP started going away. Within a month of drinking the tea every day my KP was 85% better. I don’t exfoliate much maybe 2-3 a month when I remember.

I stop drinking the tea for a week because I wanted to see if my digestive tract was back in working order (it wasn't) Guess what came back as bad as it was before..... KP.

So I believe this tea helps. I don't know how but maybe I had a build up of toxin in my system. I don't know... But I will keep drinking the tea for my stomach and the KP

HTH

Acneticin Helps tmmjdej

I have the answer to your prayers!!!!
I have found what may end up being a miracle cure. I have taken these pills for only 4 days and my Keratosis is 50% gone ...no joke!! I am sooooo excited and I wanted you all to know so you can share in the joy. I have tried everything from creams to tanning etc and nothing really worked at all. I am 30 years old and have had this on and off my whole life. Puberty it was on the back of my arms and after my pregnancies I got it everywhere from my arms to my calves and everywhere in-between. It was horrible to the point it was depressing me and I wouldnt even consider wearing shorts or skirts. OK OK OK are you ready? I found this at a website for acne in fact its an acne pill made up of vitamins and natural ingredients. All safe unless you have an allergy to one of them. Here's the site https://enr5004.startlogic.com/acneticin/index.php or the main page with it on it if that doesnt work is Best Acne Treatments Revealed. Its called Acneticin and I believe it will help all of you as it is helping me. I am currently on the 8 pills a day for now and when my skin is clear I will go to the 4 a day to maintain it. This is not a joke and I will keep you posted on my progress and please anyone who tries this keep me posted on your progress!!!

Katy's Regimen Decreases KP 75%

stop buying expensive treatments!
I myself have spent STUPID amounts of money on all sorts of creams and treatments. They do improve my skin but then seem to stop working at a certain point.

I started a new natural regime, which is working slower, but a LOT better than all these lotions and potions available.

I take 2 omega 3,6,9 capsules a day. They say one a day, but if your skin is deficient in them, then taking two wont cause harm only good. I also take a chewy multivitamin. Every day (or every other) i exfoliate my skin with a sponge which has a mild abrasive exfoliating side on it, using just a normal soap like dove or fairy. THen after my bath, i apply a VERY cheap moisturiser, containing 100% coconut oil, urea and lactic acid, the tub lasts me about a month and is only £1 or around $2. I do this throughout the day also if i get bored =]

This is the start of my third week and there is a significant improvement on the smoothness of my skin. The bumps have gone down about 75%, and for the first time in my two year relationship with my fiancee, i let him touch my arms, and he has NO clue i have kp. Red dots are still there, but remember that there is YEARS of keratin built up in my pores, and i know that when i get through all the dead stuff on the surface, the stuff will clear from the pores letting the hair grow normally, reducing the redness.

This week i plan on doing exercise 3 times a week and drinking about 4 glasses of water a day, as it is true that general health does help. And i may purchase some sulphur soap too.

Lotions do offer some good results, but i think that kind of like weight loss, if you do it the hard but better way, the results will last longer, but when you get the desired results, continue with the regime but tone it done a bit.

Hope this helps

katy

Washing Less Improves Skin and Lessens KP

Not washing...
I've had KP since before I can remember and now I have it literally everywhere. Really badly. However, I've found that when I didn't shower for a few days (not out of choice, I was camping!), my skin was quite a bit smoother.
I also used to have KP really badly on my face and when I was younger my mum always used apricot scrub to try and get rid of it, though it seemed to just aggravate it.
By chance, I found that this moisturiser by Neutrogena reeeally smooths out my skin and the KP on my face (even the redness!) is barely noticeable anymore. I used to think that by washing my face everyday it would help but I've found that if I'm being lazy and skip washing my face for a day, my skin is smoother.
Have also found my skin is smoother right after I wake up and after I've had quite an active day and got my circulation going...
Sorry for the long post but I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced similar things?
Also I started taking cod liver oil about 2 months ago but am not really noticing anything...anyone know how long it takes to replenish a Vitamin deficiency (I'm testing Vitamin A/fatty acids theory).

re: "What Works For You" Success Stories -- Products and Remedies

Hiya All

I'm new to this site, but I've been reading your comments and decided to join. I have KP on my arms only, so I'm lucky, although it is so bad that I have been approached in supermarkets and streets and asked if I am a victim of domestic abuse as the redness goes blue int he cold and looks like bruising! I now keep them covered at all times! Which isn't so good for buying nice clothing.

So, I've been reading this site for a few weeks and I'm trying a new treatment. My GP (I'm english) recommended Urea cream at 10%, so after reading comments here I have mixed in a little eucalyptus oil with that. I am also using a solution called Tend Skin, which is salycic acid and some other ingredients that work miracles on ingrown hairs and razor burn - I've recommended it to people before for those problems but never thought of using it on my arms until now. For a week I've been using the Tend Skin morning and night, followed by the Urea/eucalyptus mix. And it seems to be working. My skin has smoothed out and the redness is fading in places. It sounds silly but this is the greatest improvement in the last 5 years, and its happened in just 7 days!

I've found exfoliation actually makes my KP appear worse - the bumps go but the red scarring increases.

Anyway, I'll keep you all posted. Be intereted to find out if anyone else has tried Tend Skin or Urea?

GWB.

re: "What Works For You" Success Stories -- Products and Remedies

hi,

After reading many threads on 'what works for you' I decided to try some. In the end this is what's work for me. I scrub faithfully once a day in the shower. I mixed my own lotion and use it 2x a day after shower. It contains 10% urea cream, 8% lactic acid lotion, salicylic acid powder, VCO, and distilled water. I don't know how much I put for each, just a bit of each and shake it as hard as I can, creating thick enough consistency. Only can use it the next day though, the SA powder don't dissolve that easily. I also took 1 Omega3 tablet and 2 calcium tablet every morning. Also doing oil pulling with 1 tbs of VCO every morning for 20min. In conclusion, I tried all in the same time

The good news is, my skin got much smoother... can say about 70 - 80% of it. The red dots are still there but the skin is soft to the touch. I even let my fitness trainer touched my leg and he didn't notice anything

Will keep up to get rid of the rest of the KP. Will post the progress next time I log in.

For everyone else.. keep it up! Find your own cure, okay!!!

I forgot to mentioned some other things that I do. I drink ACV with honey 2x a day (morning and night) and exercise almost everyday. I also go for sauna 1 - 2x a week. I think these helps too.

Thanks, kebod. It's such a wonderful feeling to touch myself and find the skin is soft rather than spiky like before... Really glad that I found this website

Keplarex Helps dejr26

Re: Keplarex said to cure KP????? I'm not going to claim it's the "miracle cure" yet but it is the best thing I have tried so far (and I've tried a lot).
It did give me improvements straight away such as getting rid of a lot of redness and blotchiness which was one of my main concerns. I now swim happily without feeling ashamed of my body which pleases me.
have been taking them for about 4 weeks now probably and the redness has stayed away. I'm not cured obviously but I think my skin looks the best it has for a long, long time. The smoothness has improved too but not perfect yet. Will keep taking I think for the mean time.
