Natural Products Vit. E, Omega supplement and Tea Tree Oil Soap Help

Routine with natural products has helped immensely!!
I have had KP on and off over my entire life, but noticed a huge flare-up after my pregnancy and during nursing. I only had the KP on my arms fortunately, however it looked like I had rashes covering my arms.

In March I began taking vitamin E and Omega 3-6-9 to try to remedy the KP, I also began using Dr. Bronner's Tea Tree Soap in the shower with a loofah and then applied an oil called "Mother's Special Blend" on my arms immediately after showering.

The beauty of these products is that they are more natural alternatives to some of the "acids" I tried and seem to have worked better for me. Again, I had KP on my arms only and since it was worse during pregnancy, it certainly could be linked to my hormones.

But....My KP is gone!! There are a few spots here or there occasionally, but it has made a huge change for me. As I posted on another thread, this may be coincidence since my daughter also weaned herself around that time but this routine seemed to speed up the process of healing my arms. I follow this routine every day still. I am hopeful that this may help someone else too!!

Re: Thread Devoted to What Works For You

Sour Cream !! A friend told me this and it really made a difference - it is quite slippery in the bath (so be careful) but made my skin soft - I did it twice in three days and noticed a huge difference - you just wipe it over your skin and leave it for ten minutes - take a clock or phone to the bathroom as it is the longest ten minutes you will ever experience and you should stick it out for the whole time - wash it off and your skin is well oiled and soft - the sour cream has lactic acid which has softening properties - it can be a bit smelly so wash it off well and use a mild way to cleanse your skin after - but it is really cool - I will do it again and again. It cost near to nothing and really works.

Re: Thread Devoted to What Works For You

Hello, all! I haven't been around for a while, because when I was new I gathered several things from the site I wanted to try, then ran off to get started. Now I am checking in because I think I finally have something worth sharing.

Alas, I have not found my cure, because this will require maintenance, but lordy is my skin soft! After many complicated and expensive treatments, this is what is working for me: persistence! I took an exfoliating cloth (it is nothing more than a synthetic mitt with a nice scratchy texture), and just grabbed for any cleanser I had in the shower, which happened to be a plain old bar of Dove facial soap (in the sensitive skin formula). I started scrubbing like a mad woman, and did so a few times a week. Now I've gotten even more serious and am scrubbing twice a day! This takes discipline, because for me that means two showers a day. After I've completely done the job, then hopefully one scrubbing a day will do. Also, my skin is very tough - scrubbing twice a day may not be for everyone.

I am almost THERE! A friend felt my arms last night and said they feel totally normal to her. I think someone who didn't know I have k.p. wouldn't be able to tell there were ever bumps at all. The only reason I can tell myself is because it's me.

Now, I know what you're thinking - what about the spots? Yes, I hate the little marks as much as you do. I have been using Palmers Eventone Fade Milk as a body lotion, for the fading effect and also because it has alpha hydroxy. I do believe this is beginning to fade the red/brownish spots from the bumps, but it is very, very gradual. My own feeling about the spots is that since the spots come from the bumps, if you keep the bumps away, sooner or later the spots will go too. Never proven this theory, just makes sense to me.

Good luck, everyone! I will check back in when I can.

Smile Re: Thread Devoted to What Works For You

I have a pretty stubborn case of KP , it is all over my upper and lower arms, my upper legs and buttocks. I have bumps that are slightly raised and red. I have tried so many AHA & BHA products, and it wasnt until I tried a little known product called "Nourish" by a company called e-Topical that I noticed a difference. This company makes a 3-step program for Psoriasis. I dismissed any of the products because it was a psoriasis cream. It wasn't until I read the ingerdient list and saw that the "Nourish" product had almost 2% BHA, but also it had emollients to help soften the skin.
The AHA and BHA products smoothed the skin pretty well, but the skin felt dry and tight and almost looked aged. The e-Topical smoothed the bumps, but left my skin feeling soft and supple. This was very important, because you want the skin to be smooth, but not dried out which my skin was becoming due the twice or three times daily applications of both BHA & AHA products. Here is a link where you can watch a video of the founder or e-Topical talk about the benefits. The cream is a bit thick, but it did not sting at all!

After dealing with KP for 30 years now, I am happy to have found a treatment that works!

Alisa has success with Tend Skin

I have KP on my face, upper arms, buttocks, and inner thighs. One product that has worked GREAT on my inner thighs and buttocks is Tend Skin. (it is designed for bumps and ingrown hairs) I just use it as needed and the redness and the bumps are gone in just a few days. I'm afraid to try it on my face but I'm going to try it on my arms a few times and see what happens.

Re: Thread Devoted to What Works For You

hey ladies man i have just recently bought a bottle of hydrofoam 40 and have been applying it about twice a day. it has only been a couple days but i havent seen much of an improvement. I was wondering if this is normal and how long it took for your skin to become smoother and more importantly, free from redness. Thanks, Greg

Re: Thread Devoted to What Works For You

hey guys,

im a 15 year old male and i have a bad case of KP and a really bad case of KPRF. I am most concerned with my KPRF(redness of the face). I have been battling KP for years and recently i have been using a body lotion called glycol. It has been working pretty well for me but when your skin gets dry it starts to itch. Anyway, i was wondering if anyone knows how to significantly reduce the KPRF in a matter of weeks, and also i am wondering has ever had the surgery called MICRO ETS. I heard it works but i just wanted some direct feedback... thanks alot,
GREG

Re: Thread Devoted to What Works For You

Three weeks ago I decided to start a new routine based on partial results I've had in the past and recommendations I've seen on this board. Currently my skin is so soft that I can't stop touching it, and I think I've finally found a routine that is easy enough to keep up with - especially considering the quality of the results:

1. Cut milk out of my diet. I normally was drinking 2 glasses of milk a day. I still eat cheese - there's no way I'm giving up cheese

2. Consistantly taking both a multivitamin (One-a-day) and 25,000 IU of Beta Carotene.

3. After every shower and usually in the evening applying Eucerin Intensive Repair Lotion (AHA & 10% Urea) I tried using the cream version for a while but it was too sticky for me to keep motivated to use it.

Obviously we know that one solution doesn't seem to work for everyone, but this is working amazingly for me so far. Even areas that didn't show KP feel much better.

I also had very dry skin in that it would just be peeling and flaking quite often, even with normal lotion use, and this has gone away as well. The one thing that remains is the redness, but that I can live with more than the other things.

This works: astringent/aspirin, AHA, Microdermabrasion

KP Free finally!
I've been experimenting the past months on the best method to get rid of my KP and finally found something that worked for me.

I have a mild KP in the upper arms but its quite stubborn. I started with Microdermabrasion Crystals for about 1.5 months which helped smoothen my skin but did not totally get rid of my KP. Then used Neostrata AHA 15% (other product didnt work quite as well). It worked to some extent but after a few weeks when my skin has gotten used to it i didnt see further improvements. However it cleared most parts of my upper arms except for my shoulders which is really stubborn.

Then I started using Clean and Clear deep cleansing astringent with 2% Salicylic Acid and mixed it with 4 tablets of 500mg aspirin which also contains salicylic (i cannot find a higher percentage without getting a prescription so i improvised)

My daily routine is: AM: Splash of Astringent mixed with aspirin, let it dry and apply Neostrata AHA 15%. PM: Splash of Astringent. Then microdermabrasion 2-3 times per week. Im almost 100% clear except for the scarring which i can get rid of with AHA overtime and the occasional 2-3 bumps which is not bad at all.

Re: Thread Devoted to What Works For You

I have severe KP and this is the only treatment I've tried so far that has brought it down to a nice mild severity.

1. Take a warm shower, wash skin with a tea tree oil body wash.
2. Exfoliate with a light scrub moving in small circles, you can use your hands or a buff, the buff works better but tends to be harsh on sensitive skin.
3. Rinse with cool water and pat dry. If you have any bumps that are still being persistent or apparent, rub in soft circular motions with the towel for a few moments.
4. Mix a small amount of almond oil and tea tree oil together, then very lightly spread over the affected KP areas. You might want to avoid the face if you have sensitive skin.
5. Moisturize! I use a natural jojoba/cocoa butter lotion without the nasty additives, but really that's up to you.
6. Sunbathe! No, this doesn't mean roast, you can even wear sunscreen. Just getting out in the sun, (exposed, not in a ton of clothing) for 10-20 minutes every 2 days or so is good for you. Not only does your body need the vitamin D, but it improves the pigment of your skin greatly after the first week or so.
7. After sunbathing *always* rinse off. Even if it's just a quick run under some cool water, you need to get all that oil out of your sweat off your skin.
8. More moisturizing! Yeah, I do a lot of that.
9. Around the end of the day, if you have time time either rinse off, or run a cool washcloth over the affected areas in small circles for a few minutes.
10. Then of course more moisturizing before bed!

I would say that's pretty much my every day routine, besides that try taking some omega-3, maybe some flax oil. This is great for your skin, even if you don't have KP, it makes it super soft and always look fresh.

Remember to drink plenty of water too, just because we're moisturizing on the outside doesn't mean we get enough inside.
Keeping a little more vitamin A in your diet is good too, as KP sufferers don't seem to have enough of it and the stuff is great for your skin. Just be careful on how much you take. Ask your doctor if you're thinking about taking a V-A supplement as it is one of the easiest vitamins to overdose on.

Another thing that helps is exercising. I know it seems daunting, but a healthy workout can get your blood flowing and better circulation can improve all kinds of things, including the pigment of your skin.

But anyway, I hope this helps somebody. I know it works for me, but best of luck to everyone!

Thanks to everyone else who posted in this topic, I'll definitely look some things over, it can't hurt to try, right? ^_^

I started getting gross white-crud filled bumps on my arms, and after about a year I used AVON Skin Bump Minimizer and it got rid of my KP for good after about a month's use. I used to pick at my arms and made some icky scars but now they are completely smooth. I sing the priases of this stuff as it is one of my favorite products in the cosmetic world.

I bought several tubes to stock up, but I have not even needed them. This cream, which has AHA acid or Glycolic acid (I forgot which) and some other stuff in it, also softens feet wonderfully and keeps elbows smooth. I recently became an AVON lady myself and got advance notice that they are reintroducing this product soon. Yipeee. It had not been in the catalog for several months. If you want some, contact your local AVON lady, or if you prefer...email ME via the link here and I'll be happy to get some for you and have it sent rght to your house.

Oh, also this stuff costs only about $5-6 for a big tube 6 or 8 ounces.

I love it and want to spread the word!

Re: Thread Devoted to What Works For You

I have KP on my upper arms and have tried almost everything and nothing worked. Two weeks ago a friend told me to try something and it worked (at least for me it did). I wrapped up my arms with plastic foil that we use in the kitchen (plastic wrap) very tied (for 5 hours). The next day i did the same. My skin became very smooth and clear. I don't know how long it will last, but I am happy now!!!

Re: Thread Devoted to What Works For You

Nina,

This is certainly a very different approach! I wonder if it helped your KP because the plastic wrap prevented your skin from losing moisture (perspiring). I think you are telling us that it was two weeks ago that you did this, and your arms have been clear for that long. Please post again and tell us how long this one-time treatment lasts.

Thank you for sharing this with us.

Re: Thread Devoted to What Works For You

I don't know how it works or how long it lasts. I'm still trying to find out. I tried it two times: Two weeks ago and after a week I wrapped them again because they were not so smooth as they were before. I don't how long it will last this time.
