Carrot Juice?

I've noticed that drinking large amounts of carrot juice has helped to slightly improve my KP--could it be the Vitamin A? Has anyone else experienced this?

I haven't done it for more than a week or two because I start to get lazy about juicing all the carrots (and apples to give it some sweetness) on a daily basis. Plus, it seems to be more pricey than actually buy the packaged stuff.

Are there any great tasting carrot juices out there?

Re: Carrot Juice?

I'm not sure on what tastes best, but large amount of Vitamin A certainly seem to encance cell turnover rate, and slow down sebacious glands from producing oil. Make sure you check the Daily Value of healthy Vitamin A consumption on Answers.com or something, because you can't have too much of anything, even Vitamin A. There's also a chance that if you drink too much Carrot Juice, it can actually turn your skin orange, or at least that's what I've heard.

See if this search works for you - it's various threads here regarding carrot juice over the last 3 years:

Keratosis Pilaris Community Forums - Search Results

Vitamin A search on these forums:

Keratosis Pilaris Community Forums - Search Results

This last one you may want to selectively go through them, the search engine here doesn't yet allow me to do "AND" or "include ALL keywords"-type searches so anything with "Vitamin" in the title comes up. A lot of people have had success with carrot juice and other things high in vitamin A apparently - carrot juice, sea buckthorn juice. Even some of the RX treatments are basically vitamin A type treatments if I am understanding correctly. Personally, oils and topical things that are high in vitamin A and E help me too. I sometimes buy "Vruit" brand juice which is packaged carrot juice mixed with other fruit juices. Probably not as good for you as fresh but it tastes fine. - bd

Note: My understanding has always been that toxicity only occurs from vitamin A from animal forms such as cod liver oil and other livers, and vitamin A supplements that are retinyl palmitate:

"toxicities only occur with preformed (retinoid) vitamin A (such as from liver), the carotenoid forms (such as beta carotene as found in carrots) give no such symptoms."

Vitamin A - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Please follow and research other references available there if you think you need to be concerned.

Mhm, topical retinoids, such as Tazorac and Retin-A, are derrived from Vitamin A, and Accutane is basically a ridiculous amount of Vitamin A. Vitamin A in your diet can actually interfere with these drugs.

And yes, you can turn orange/yellow:

Also in the above link is a list of other fruits and veggies with high vitamin A if you wanted to mix it up.

Re: Carrot Juice?

This is true!

Pediatricians recommend to alternate carrot & sweet peas (babyfood) because babies can turn orange or green if given everyday.
