Does Where You Live Affect The KP?

I live in southeastern michigan, between all these lakes you'd figure it would be a very humid place to live, but in the winter the air is soooo dry. My daughter has KP and we are about to make a move to San Antonio, TX. Do you think the change of weather will have an effect on her KP? My husband has had kp his whole life living here, and I've heard some things about sunshine and salt water, and winter here is so gloomy, we don't see the sun till april, so it's hard for her to get any sunlight.

Does anyone here live in TX. Is it often humid there?

Kristie

Re: Does Where You Live Affect The KP?

Absolutely! I live in New York City and when summer comes, my KP seems to lessen and my skin feels and appears smoother, but once the winter hits I'm a mess again and scrambling all over the place to find something to keep my KP at bay. The sun is also amazing for KP, but it also causes premature aging and cancer otherwise I'd be baking myself everyday.

Whenever I vacation in a warm, humid environment (i.e. Florida, Hong Kong, South America, etc.) I always notice that my KP immediately improves. No wonder Asians and Brazilians have such beautiful skin! It's their environment!!

I live in Puerto Rico, a beautiful Caribbean Island and humidity levels are very high. Lots of sun 365 and salt water, yeah...
I have seen lots of KP cases because here you can't hide under clothes. The weather doesn't allow it!

The only thing that seems to improve just a little my husband's KP is sun tanning- he has very fair skin so he has to be very careful and moderate (because of skin cancer risks). Yesterday he sun tanned...we'll see how it went.

Oh, thank you elsa zoe. i like that picture because it was good day for her cheeks! so when i move to texas, her kp should calm down a little... right? right now it is so bright red and dry, i feel so bad for her. my husband just doesn't care about his, but we worry about when charlie is old enough to "feel" self concious, and i am hoping that this move will help her. that would be nice. she is VERY fair skinned, so i will probably have to slather sunscreen on her 4-5 times a day, will this affect the kp too?

no, in fact, she is rarely outside at all. especially now with this very cold weather. when we move to texas i am hoping that we are able to be outside for more of the year. i have a high tolerance for heat, so the 100 degree weather is inviting, i can only hope that the added sunshine will help clear up both my daughter and husband.

Re: Does Where You Live Affect The KP?

Well KP generally improves with the sun, because on the vitamin D sunlight prodeiced on the skin.

in the summer id encourage her to go out and just read a magazine in the backyard, like i do (im 15) it realy helpd the redness of my KP.

also, get a humidifier for her room in the winter that should help her keep her moisture.

does she go outside in the winter?
