Know your ingredients in body products
I hope everyone is reading the ingredients on processed food and avoiding such things as preservatives, artificial color and flavorings, trans-fats, and chemicals in general.
Also, read the ingredients in all your body products. There are some ingredients you do not want to absorb through your skin:
Are Lipstick Chemicals Changing Your Cup Size? - Articles The article this is from is actually about the possiblity that some absorbed chemicals are increasing women's bust size. Re: Natural Health
Hi everyone i'm new here
![]() Rather than starting a new thread,i thought i'd add to this thread,as it is related to the topic. I've had KP since i was 12[i'm 25 now]and 6 months ago i decided to cut out all creams/lotions containing harsh unpure chemicals, and food containing artificial sweeteners, preservatives, colours, flavourings E numbers etc,and to my shock cleared 80% of KP from my back, and only a few days ago i started to see the KP around my ankles clearing up completely. I still have alot of KP on my arms, neck and chest but i'm sure by keeping these nasty chemically laden products away from my skin and stomach,i could keep on seeing progress. In addition to this i've been eating as much fresh fruit and vegetables, and have avoided any junk fast food,i also eat free range organic meat/eggs and only drink water. I'll post pics up when i get a chance |

Re: Natural Health
Pretty much keeping just a healthy pure diet, and using just organic naturally sourced and produced creams/scrubs for my skin, made by a small company in the UK,that makes its own inhouse soaps.
It's no good applying creams/lotions to help the skin,if you're not helping your body within. |

Re: Natural Health
Middx,
Welcome to the KP Forum and welcome to the "Natural Health" thread. I was so glad to read your post. I really believe that much of our skin disorder is due to all the toxins we eat, drink and breathe. Our body has to eliminate what it can. Some is stored, some is processed by our liver and kidneys, and some is eliminated through our skin, the second largest cleansing organ, next to the liver. It only makes sense that if we can take in less toxins to begin with, our body has less to eliminate or store. Any time we can give the liver a break, we are also helping our skin. I, too, am trying to use only pure products, though that isn't always possible. My organic food options are very limited, so probably I take in most of my toxins through food. But every little bit helps and I hope everyone is reading ingredients and shopping organic if that is possible. kebod |

The Sunshine Vitamin
V itamin D does not directly relate to KP (that I know of), but in the interest of maintaining optimum health so that our bodies have the best possible chance of fighting off KP, here is news about this vitamin.
Vitamin D is produced naturally in the body through exposure to sunshine. As little as 15 mintues in the sun, a few times a week, is sufficient to produce adequate Vitamin D. Because of our busy life styles or fear of skin cancer, many of us have stopped spending time in the sun. Adequate Vitamin D strengthens bones, reduces the chances of many types of cancer, and research suggests that Vit. D may boost the body's production of naturally occurring antibiotics. The production of Vit. D does not occur if you use a sun block. Just like a lot of life's pleasures, sun exposure should be kept to a minimum. Some web sites recommend a few minutes a day. Some say 10-15 minutes a few times a week. Just don't overdo it, but try to get a little sun regularly. CBC News In Depth: Vitamin D the sunshine vitamin kebod |

Sunshine and KP
Here is a follow-up to my last post on getting enough vitamin D. Getting some sun every day is a good way to make sure you are getting your Vit. D, plus being in the sun for 5-10 minutes every day seems to minimize my KP.

Is Tanning Safe?
More on the question of sun exposure, safety and benefits from Slate. Among other things, this article talks about the possibility that sun exposure does not cause melanoma, and that "increased levels of Vitamin D outway the hypothetical risks."
Also, it states: Exposure to sunlight (or the UV lamps in a tanning bed) does cause the skin to produce vitamin D, which has a host of salubrious benefits, including the maintenance of normal blood levels of phosphorus and calcium and the promotion of healthy bones. Studies have shown that many segments of the population aren't getting enough of the vitamin, which may even aid in the prevention of cancer, diabetes, and HIV. According to almost all experts, most people could cover their bases by getting just five to 15 minutes of sunlight two to three times a week. (You'll need a little more if you're darker-skinned.) As with all things on the internet, all we can do is read the reports and make our own decision. Here is the entire article: Is sunbathing good for you? Or does it cause skin cancer? - By Nina Shen Rastogi - Slate Magazine I'm trying to get some sun 3-4 times a week, 10 minutes at a time. The remaining KP bumps and redness on my arms have absolutely lessened, but it will take more time to see if this has a long-term effect. Don't use sunblock if you get out in the sun. It prevents Vit. D. production. kebod |

Salmon, Omega 3 and Healthy Skin
This is copied from a post in 2006 by DeeDee:
Salmon -- Salmon -- along with other fatty fish, walnuts and flaxseed -- is high in healthy fatty acids that are key for achieving healthy skin. Essential fatty acids such as omega-3s help keep cell membranes healthy by keeping out harmful substances as well as allowing nutrients to enter cells and exit with waste products. Omega-3s also reduce the body's production of inflammatory agents that can damage the skin. Increasing consumption of omega-3 fatty acid-rich foods such as salmon will help keep the skin supple and youthful. A 1:1 ratio of omega-6 fatty acids to omega-3s is ideal, but the ratio in the typical American diet is more like 20:1, so boosting consumption of salmon and other oily fish can help bring that ratio closer to 1:1. Salmon is also rich in protein, potassium, selenium and vitamin B12. Low-Fat Diet Not Based on Science or Health
There have been news articles recently about the origins of the idea of a low-fat diet and that this idea was not based on science. I first read about this in the New York Times. Here are some quotes from the article:
In 1988, the surgeon general, C. Everett Koop, proclaimed ice cream to a be public-health menace right up there with cigarettes. Alluding to his office’s famous 1964 report on the perils of smoking, Dr. Koop announced that the American diet was a problem of “comparable” magnitude, chiefly because of the high-fat foods that were causing coronary heart disease and other deadly ailments. The notion that fatty foods shorten your life began as a hypothesis based on dubious assumptions and data; when scientists tried to confirm it they failed repeatedly. The evidence against Häagen-Dazs was nothing like the evidence against Marlboros. To bolster his theory, Dr. Keys in 1953 compared diets and heart disease rates in the United States, Japan and four other countries. Sure enough, more fat correlated with more disease (America topped the list). But critics at the time noted that if Dr. Keys had analyzed all 22 countries for which data were available, he would not have found a correlation. (And, as Mr. Taubes notes, no one would have puzzled over the so-called French Paradox of foie-gras connoisseurs with healthy hearts.) To read the entire article: Diet and Fat: A Severe Case of Mistaken Consensus - New York Times Basically, we have been brain-washed into believing that a low-fat diet is the best. It is theorized that the high incidence of obesity and overweight in the U.S. and other countries may be partially due to this misinformation. A low-fat diet leaves us feeling unsatisfied, so we eat more, which results in more calories, which results in weight gain. Good fats, like olive oil, coconut oil, oil found in fatty fish like salmon (omega 3 oil), organic butter and cream, raw nuts -- all have a place in our diet. Don't over do it -- calories are calories. But also, don't think that a low-fat diet is necessarily healthy. kebod |

Re: Natural Health
i think this artical is bad.
i would be willing to bet that john teirney got paid to write this artical from the junk food corperations. the very succesful, very rich, high fat , junk food, and alcohol corparations such as hershey, mars, coke , budweiser, mcdonnalds, ext. { i wish i had the exact list on me. sorry} they team up and put propaganda like this out there to boost sales. seriously they do. these huge companys join forces. the'll even go as far as starting a company called -health reseach for mankind- {thats just an example} then thell get a bunch of scientist and doctors to say things like drinking alchol 3 times a week may help prevent cancer or chocolate makes you healthier or eating meat 4 times a week increases your brain power. and of course they pay these scientist and doctors very well. to lie. their doing the same thing that big tabaccoo used to do. they used to get doctors to say smoking makes you healthier. i hate this american propaganda!!!! the vast majority of doctors are in complete agreement that eating to much fat espeacially animal fat leads to many diseases including heart disease the number one killer of americans. and its no coincidance that america is the fattest country in the world. that artical: "Nineteenth-century Americans consumed huge amounts of meat; the percentage of fat in the diet of ancient hunter-gatherers, according to the best estimate today, was as high or higher than the ratio in the modern Western diet." yah ...people had to eat more then because they worked much harder than we do to day. how could a high fat diet be good? no way |
