Question Cleansing the skin...

Hello all! I am new to this site but a long time sufferer of severe KP. In the past few years my KP has gotten worse...it is now on my forearms and on my sides. I am going to try the oil pulling but what is the best way to cleanse your body? I have read on some sites that say to gently cleanse the body but then some sites say to exfoliate. I use a jute body scrubber that came in a gift set from Burt's Bees. Am I just making my KP worse? Help please!!!

Re: Cleansing the skin...

I think from reading around on this site....exfoliating means to use a scrub a few times a week....but what about using a body poof or the jute scrubber? I am afraid that a regular wash cloth is not going to slough off the excess keratin/dead skin like it should. Also...I started using natural/organic face wash, toner, and lotion on face and noticed that even though I still have some bumps on my cheeks but my skin is much softer...I don't break out very often (maybe 1 pimple every month) and the skin around my nostrils is not dry at all. I did have a big problem with the skin around my nose being extremely dry and flaky. I also switched from liquid foundations to Bare Minerals and that seems to have helped my face too! About the cleansing...any advice is greatly appreciated!

Hi sammy!

Isn't Bare Minerals great! I used to have extremely dry skin, and in a couple of weeks my skin feels better! Also they cover a lot and look great!

I know...Bare Minerals is great! I don't know what we ever did without it! I noticed that Avon now has their own line of mineral makeup at a much cheaper price....on sale right now for 7.99 a jar. I ordered some and I am going to see if it is comparable to Bare Minerals. I will let you know!

If you like mineral makeup you should check out Everyday Minerals. Fantastic quality, inexpensive and is delivered to your door.
The bonus with MMU is it is actually good for your skin too.

Re: Cleansing the skin...

Elsa Zoe - You're the pro. Do you think a sensitive skin type would have a good chance of the bare minerals working for her? and of course I mean me
I bought some Body Shop face powder, couldn't find the ingredients list at the store and then found out it has olive oil and squalene in it which are no-nos for my skin. The bare Minerals sound promising but a little pricey. I'm just on the verge of buying it but wanted another opinion if I could get one.Thanks.

and sammy, I think that jute scrubber and body-poufs can harbor bacteria if they don't regularly get run through boiling water or something. I've never liked them myself and I like to just use a sugar scrub. Elsa Zoe has some good scrub recipes posted on these forums if you do some searching, maybe look at all posts by her. Also, go lightly on your skin. I can make mine worse if I scrub too hard I've noticed. please keep me posted on whether you like the avon minerals. - bd

Yes, these products tend to be non-allergenic and non-comedogenic and the skin can breathe through a purely natural layer of makeup. Some people say that you can even sleep in your make up. Which I don't recommend under any circumstances.

They are made out of finely ground earth minerals and are very gentle on skin, even after chemical procedures such as: peeling or laser.

In my case I have extra-super-mega dry and sensitive skin and I began using mineral wet & Dry foundation-powder.

It is working for me, but I'm still on trial.

I changed because a friend of mine has this beautiful flawless skin and she told me that she's been using this make up for a long time.

The coverage is nice for me and if you want a not so matte look, you can apply it with a wide brush. It comes with a sponge, but remember to change it or wash it with antibacterial soap every 2 weeks!

Average price of this powder: $10- $14
It lasts a lot and if you are in the USA you can find it in Sally Beauty Supplies.

NOTE:

I opened a new category for product reviews in our Gallery. There's the powder image and information.

If you have other makeup or skin products you want to add, you can post it there.

We can rate products and talk about how they work, where you can find it and prices.

Click here to see the image and new product review area.

Girls, Tell me what you think!

Re: Cleansing the skin...

About the sugar scrubs:

I'm so excited!! Two days ago I went to Walmart and found the best sugar scrub in the world!

It has glycerin in it, so when it touches your skin it feels warm.
It smells great!

Coconut-Lime= It sounded weird to me, because I usually don't like too much coconut smell on my skin. Reminds me of sun tanning oil= Coopertone. Well, it has more lime in it and it smells like if you were in a SPA!

Also, they have other sugar scrubs like almond-honey. DELICIOUS aroma! and some nut scrub-don't like the smell very much.

18 oz. (510 g)
Aprox. price at Walmart: $4.62
Amazon.com: $14.00

You have to visit this link to see the product image at the KP Gallery.

Here are the natural ingredients in case you want to make it at home:

Sugar
Glycerin (you can find it at any drug store or pharmacy, even Walmart)
Lime (Juice/Extract or substitute with lime essential oil)
Coconut Extract (You can add coconut oil)
Safflower Oil
Evening Primrose Oil
Sweet Almond Oil
Avocado Oil
Macadamia Seed Oil
Orange Oil
Coconut Shell Powder

Smile Mineral Makeup

My natural skepticism kicked in and so I did a little research. Here's a reprint of a Paula Begoun article evaluating a few different mineral makeups. Natural Living - Mineral Makeup
for me it looks like the pürminerals brand would be best but I may try the savvy that's carried at sally's or the one Elsa Zoe tried if the ingredients look ok for me since they are less costly.
But Thanks for getting into this topic. My Almay powder from last year ran out - well, what was left in the bottm totally fell apart and kept spilling. It was fine for me but they stopped making it - of course! That is one of my pet peeves! manufacturer's changing formulas and dropping lines of things that work for me! oh well... I tried a different almay but when I opened it up it was a pasty foundation-cream type compress - yuck. and then I bought body shop powder that had olive oil AND squalene in it which make me break out - argh! so I have been quite curious about this trend in "mineral makeups." - bd

Yes, it is the same one.

Sally carries other brands, but the girl at the counter recommended me Palladio.

I thought that the other brand looked better, but I purchased the one she recommended.

Before buying Palladio I didn't use mineral make up. I used Maybelline Pure Stay...around $9.00. It covers a lot and it's great. I wanted to try minerals, so I changed.
