I give up!!!

Im done with doing topical lotions, scrubs etc. and exfoliating they have only made my kp worse and it has spread from only my upper arms to shoulders, lower arms, chest, upper legs and buttox, patches on back and now there starting to form on my lower legs and even inner arms (which is horrible)! what im going to do is not even touch them im going to work out, eat right, drink some carrot juice, wash with only water and put a very mild lotion on. I feel like all those lotions and scrubs do is make your skin worse and make it spread. i will report back with hopefully better skin. i advise any of you who are having no luck to do the same.

I feel for you! We shouldn't have to work SOOO hard to have normal-looking skin. Just a few suggestions, though:

Eat right: that sounds really good! Make sure you get enough EFA's in the process.

Wash with only water: I don't know about that one. Wouldn't that only be feeding bacteria? Why not use something natural instead? There are a lot of natural-based soaps you can find out there.

Put very mild lotion on: why not use something like coconut oil or olive oil instead? Coconut oil has some anti-fungus, bacteria, properties...

Good luck! While you're at it, you might as well expose your skin. I'm sure we are not helping ourselves by constantly hiding our skin under layers of clothing.

Re: I give up!!!

It seems to me that people who become active, vital, getting out in the sun, eating extremely well, and just building health in general, do not have issues with Keratosis Pilaris. I've seen people get healthier and have it decrease!

We live in a society where people think treatment is their only option. I believe in correcting imbalances. Because that is what ailments are, they are imbalances. I don't think true health has any room for "KP."

Re: I give up!!!

hope4thebest- i probably will use a light body wash but i dont plan to scrub hard with a buff puff or loofah as they just make my skin worse. as for using oil, id love to but it stains everything and i have a very hectic lifestyle so i just plan on using the mild lotion, since the holidays are just around the corner i wont be able to stick with the best diet and work out plan, but i right after the holidays i will start up again and report back!

Hey nykp - I totally support you in not using soaps. Give it a shot, don't even use a mild body wash unless you know you have dirt that you need to get off. Sorry Hope4TheBest, but I don't believe you have to worry about "feeding bacteria" since our skins hold a dazzling array of microbes that don't get washed off when you use soaps anyway. Better to think of the balance, like your intestines prefer having good bacteria within them like acidophilis (sp?) to function well. Skin probably needs the right balance. Some people do alright with soaps helping them with their balance but my skin (arms, legs and butt not face - I use cleaner on my face to lift oil) has always done better staying away from soaps and only using very mild lotiions or oils - I have fairly sensitive skin however. I only do a scrub about twice a week and that's plenty - any more and I'd be RED.
I think it's a very good idea to back off of all of it especially since it sounds like your skin may be irritated. Give it a rest. And while all of us have our suggestions, you know your skin best! - bd
