Re: The Sea Buckthorn Treatment Guide
Been using seabuckthorn soap (by Aubrey Organics) in the shower every day for a tad bit over 2 weeks now. I'm breaking out with acne-like bumps on my upper back. No sign of KP reduction but I will keep using the soap, as well as the lotion (also by Aubrey) which I just obtained.

Re: The Sea Buckthorn Treatment Guide
What to do about the orange colour? Does anyone else occasionally put the SBO full strength on their face? If you do, do you look totally orange like a bad fake tan from the 1970's? I used it every other day last week on my forehead - It REALLY helps me heal up quickly, I had a bad reaction to a new (well, "reformulated") conditioner a couple weeks ago. So the SBO worked great, took pain and itching away and I've noticed it does help my skin heal up faster but I had to wear a bandana around my head gypsy/biker style to hide the orangeness. Anyone else have any tips? - bd

Re: The Sea Buckthorn Treatment Guide
I don't think you need to use it in that high of a concentration - full strength is probably overkill. Thin it out so that it's only a light orange tint. The SBT lotion from Aubrey doesn't really stain orange (maybe slightly, but hardly noticeable).

Re: The Sea Buckthorn Treatment Guide
Hi SirDuckles,
I am a 28 year old man from London, England. Ever since I was around 13 years old I have had serious problems with KP. Around this time I developed the form of KP that makes your face very red and inflammmed, causing your cheeks to flush and become burning hot. I probably had the body form of KP as well before then but ignored it believing the spots were just acne. As you can no doubt appreciate, this condition has caused me some considerable distress and embaressment over the years to say the least. It was therefore with great interest I noticed your recent posting. I have had similar experiences to yours with doctors over the years - not being helpful and telling me there was nothing that could be done, apart from the few times I had laser treatments they charged be a fortune for. However, out of desperation I recently stumbled upon the use of Sea Buckthorn for this condition, which had been recommended by other members of this forum. I have been using the facedoctor soap for quite some weeks now and have recently begun using their cream. Like you I am absolutely convinced this treatment is working but have not seen results as amazing as you yet. This may be because I have not been taking any Sea Buckthorn orally like you or been using the shampoo. However, similarly to you I also lie in the bath and allow the soap to soak in for a long time before washing it off. I have also tried washing my hair with it. As you can imagine this has dried out my scalp a fair bit but I did not want to buy the shampoo as I was not totally sure the treatment was working. I also have the problem of a lot of hair falling out and always see many strands of it in the bath after I let the water out, although I am not bald fortunately. I have seen many people on this site discredit the use of Sea Buckthorn for this condition. In particular they claim the facedoctor soap does not work. It is my belief that the reason they think that is because they are using it wrong. When I first started using the soap I did not see any noticeable improvement for many weeks. Also I now believe that the soap on its own will probably not do a lot for you unless you use some of the other products. Having read your story I would also now like to try the juice and probably the pills and shampoo too. It is unfortunate that so many people on this site seem to think Sea Buckthorn doesn't work. I am convinced it does and it must be medically researched so that it can hopefully be turned into a more effective treatment for our condition. You and I and the others who believe in this oil must spread the gospel on this forum. Last edited by Elsa Zoe; 01-29-2008 at 01:01 PM. Reason: separated paragraphs for better reading :) |

Re: The Sea Buckthorn Treatment Guide
Hello!
Well I purchased the soap and lotion from Aubrey Organics and so far so good. My KP is not that bad though. The area that really bothers me is on my chest. I have what I believe is called keratosis alba? They are flesh colored bumps that I've had forever! My arms and back for the most part are just scars, since I scar easily, and they have taken forever to go away. Anyway, its been a week and I haven't broken out. We'll see how if goes after week two. Have any of you put the lotion on your face?? I've been wanting to do this but I wasn't sure if it was safe. |

Re: The Sea Buckthorn Treatment Guide
Hi. This is the first posting I've done since finding this site.'
I've had kp since I was a kid, mostly on the back of my of my body: upper arms, legs, butt and upper back and shoulders. It has gotten a little better since I'm older now, almost 47, but still a pain to deal with. My regimen before was a bath brush with dove's exfoileating body wash and curel lotion which I love. I was impressed and curious about Sir Duckles info about mites and seabuckthorn, which I had never heard of before. I ordered the seabuckthorn soap from Aubrey and lotion from the vitamen shop. I still have not received the lotion and have had to file a claim, oh well. Anyway, I started using the soap on the 24th of Jan. , it has a strong perfume smell but not too bad. I noticed that indeed, my kp got alot worse after about 3 days of using the soap, lots of white bumps, raised red hive looking bumps and the weirdest of all, there was a straight line of small flesh colored bumps under my left tricep and 2 diagonal lines on my right arm. I have never seen anything like this before. It almost reminded me of scabies which I have never had. I did go back and noticed that in one of the threads, someone else also mentioned that they had lines of bumps also. So I guess I also have the mite infestation. I also have roscea and kp on my face, flushed cheeks and some bumps over my eyebrows plus oily skin which used to be really bad. There is alot of info about the cause of roscea and mite involment. I for one am now convinced. The itching started on about the 5th day. I itched on my arms and scalp mostly. I wore long sleeves and used alot of curel lotion. I would shower at night using the soap and a buff puff on my body and just a washcloth and the soap on my face, followed by Eucerin lotion with alpha hydroxy right after showering. I would also use the soap on my face and arms in the morning. I would also let the soap sit on my skin for a few mintues before rinsing off. I have noticed a huge inprovement in my kp;less white bumps, and smoother skin and much less itching. Yesterday I bought some coconut oil, smells bad. I put the jar in the sink filled with hot water while I showered and there was enough of the oil that had dissolved to use as you only need a little. This morning I was really happy to see that there was so much less reddness and VERY smooth skin on my arms especially. I read allot about how good coconut oil is ...who knew?? I also used the soap on my scalp a few times and then followed by a small amount of regular shampoo to get rid of the residue.I am very happy with my results so far. If this had'nt worked,I was going to try other things listed here on the site. I have noticed how alot of people have mentioned a depressed immune system and how inflamation is involed. I have had fibromyalgia since I was 30 which makes my immune system low and developed roscea about the same time. I also have irritalble bowl syndrome which goes hand in hand with fibromyalgia. I take a multi-vitamen, calcium and vitamen E, which really helps the IBS probably because its a anti inflamatory. I notice that there was a posting wondering if someone from a company selling seabuckthorn might be behind alot of the info and posting-I had thought the same thing too . I'm just happy that I've seen such good results so far. During the really bad itching, i would read Sir Duckles site to make sure I was'nt going nuts and that it was "normal" what I was going through. I hope this helps someone else. I will keep posting with more info later and hopefully continued good results. Last edited by Elsa Zoe; 02-10-2008 at 10:41 AM. Reason: edited for easy reading (paragraphs) |

Re: The Sea Buckthorn Treatment Guide
Just wondering...
I'm using Weleda products as well as the Hauschka shampoo and a sea buckthorn drink which is vile. No sign of the KP getting any better or worse yet, but I have come out in random nettlerash a few times, which was quickly chased away with a dab of cortisone. Also my eczema has flared up. Do you think this is related and should I continue? |

Re: The Sea Buckthorn Treatment Guide
I think you should continue with your treatment. You dinn't mention how long you have been using the treatments. I would read Sir Duckles posting; it's full of great info. Plus, you might want to check out info about the mites and seabuckthorn on the net. I really would also consider using either a soap product or lotion with the seabuckthorn in it. The soap was cheap and was really the only thing besides the buff puff I used differently and now am seeing a huge inprovment. I am not trying to push any products on anyone, I just know what has worked for me. Good luck!

Re: The Sea Buckthorn Treatment Guide
I've ordered some Aubrey Organics sea buckthorn soap today which should hopefully arrive by the weekend and I'm going to buy some sea buckthorn pills from Holland and Barrett but I can't find sea buckthorn shampoo easily in the UK so would it work without the shampoo?
I'm also not that keen to change shampoo because it's difficult to find ones that meet my criteria - vegan, no sls, no cones, no parabens. I only wash my hair every few days anyway as it's best not to wash it too often or your scalp will overproduce the sebum which it is being stripped of and get greasy quickly. Anyway, so will it work with just the pills and the soap? I'm going to use the soap twice a day every day. |

Re: The Sea Buckthorn Treatment Guide
I recently tried some topicals that behave like SBO on me. please see my journal: The Long and Winding Road
I don't know, maybe Google demodex and tea tree oil and see what you find. those aussies hhave done lots of studies to promote TTO. I like it. I just used it on my scalp and hair the other say and my hair feels GREAT. I mean it. I'm gonna keep doing that. I bought a bottle of TTO from luckyvitamin.com - good price and it doesn't smell quite as harsh as NOW foods that I had b4. I forget the brand but it's 2 ounces and not as pricey as most. - bd Last edited by Elsa Zoe; 02-12-2008 at 01:01 PM. Reason: fixed link |

Re: The Sea Buckthorn Treatment Guide
Hi, I'm new and glad to see something is working for people. I don't have KP as bad as many of the others on the site. In fact, it is only on my arms. I figured it was sun deprivation as I don't take my shirt off outdoors and haven't for years.
That being said, can I just use the bar of soap on my arms and not anywhere else so I don't suffer the extreme symptoms all over my body since only my arms have KP? |

Re: The Sea Buckthorn Treatment Guide
I think you should try using the soap on your upper arms while avoiding other areas. Although I will have to say that I have been using the soap on my body for about a month and a week now and I've had minor breakouts here and there and my kp has gotten redder and bumpier, especially on my upper arms. I have been applying seabuckthorn lotion on my arms daily as well. It has taken longer than expected for these bad reactions to occur (compared to SirDuckles' experience) and I'm hoping that the "healing" stage will take over very soon. Of course, I have not incorporated the seabuckthorn drink into my regimen, nor anything else consumed. So maybe the slower reaction time should be expected.
