Sun tanning vs. sunless tanning

Hello,
I know that many of you say that your KP improves with exposure to the sun. Is this because the sun itself has some characteristic that it changes the skin and makes the bumps less noticable or is it simply because it's tanning your skin and making it darker and just hiding the redness?

I haven't yet tried any sunless tanners on my arms to see if it would hide the redness, but I've been curious about these new tanning salons that offer a spray-on tan in just 60-seconds. Do you think those would help or does it have to be sun/UV that helps hide the bumps? Has anyone had any luck with this method or with store-bought sunless tanning lotions?
Amy

Hi Surfergurl,

The sunless tanners have never worked for me. My bumps are very dark against my pale skin, and the tanners only seemed to make the bumps more noticeable, because along with the rest of my skin, the bumps got darker too.

I thought about trying the Mystic Tanning, where you get an instant sunless tan in 60 seconds, but in my case they'd probably make my KP look even worse.

I've thought about tanning in a salon, but I don't know.... as much as I hate my KP, I'd much rather have KP than skin cancer, and since I'm so pale it might affect me worse, I don't know. Also, the tanning booths (over long-term use) can be bad for your eyes because they can cause cataracts, which is a clouding of the lens in your eye, and eventually gets so cloudy that you can't see, and then you'd need cataract surgery. I don't know if the use of UV-blocking eyegoggles takes cares of this or not.

I would always suggest sunless tanning over, but that's my personal preference. The reason why sunburning works is because it causes your skin to exfoliate a little faster, but its only temporary. try different sunless tanners until you find one that works with your skin. I've never had a problem with my spots turning darker, but if you do not moisturize your skin this can happen. Make sure you use a light lotion (without mineral oil) about 10 mins before you apply the sunless tanner. If you need more information, pm me or go to www.sunless.com- they have a TON of information there. good luck!

A moderate amount of sun is very good for the skin. It doesn't just hide redness, but it actually helps get rid of some inflammation and is very good in minimizing bumps.

I use a lot of sunless tanning lotions over the winter time and think it does clear it up a little bit, but just find one that you can use and not make you bright orange. (Vaseline Intensive Care Healthy Body Glow turned me really orange. I like Jergens Natural glow it didn't turn me orange, but maybe the only kind turned me orange because I have really fair skin)
I've been trying to get a natural tan for the past few days and it seems to be lessening my KP a lot!

I tried the magic tan 60 second booth the other day, with a good result. I had a few pimples that were healing on my face & it covered these up also :-) Also my arms were nearly 100% cleared with infrared sauna on the sunlight setting, Koru KP oleum applied in the shower just after a shower, Calmurid a cream that has urea & lactic acid in it at night. This tanning was the cream on the cake, my arms look normal with a sexy tan! The lady that worked there said it had cleared up her eczema because it hydrates the skin :-) My legs seem a bit better too - I'm trying not to get my hopes up until they are really clear, next time I am going to go one shade darker to try to cover the redness because I get really bad redness on my legs & I'm also trying to use the tan extend on my legs because I want to see if this will work, I'll report back next week when I try this. I recommend to definitely do this spray tanning. I'm going away next weekend where I will be going into a hot mineral pool & also a thermally heated pool, I hate the fact that I have to dread these occasions can't wait till the day when I can start swimming etc as a hobby - bring it on!! I feel better about this now though after the tanning & also know once I am in the hot pool my KP clears it responds well to heat it clears in the sauna too, I just pray that the darker tan will clear my KP so I can get to the pool without looking like a spotty legged freak... about the sunbeds though I have been resisting going on the sunbeds because if I get cancer & I don't want to feel that I would have contributed to the cancer. But I understand those who just want to clear up so badly that they will try anything.

Just to let you know that the product mentioned by " KP on Thighs" above is my new formula: Koru kp Oleum. This is a unique blend of Extra Virgin Coconut Oil and natural thickeners to improve its properties. It also contains a generous amount of Vitamin E to nourish and soothe the skin.
Based upon the positive feedback from people out there with kp who have been trialling Koru kp Oleum, it is now available from our home-based website.

Cheers!

Annuu

I think you need the uv rays to help with the bumps. The sunless lotions may help disguise the redness, but it's never the same.

The Sun and tanning beds give you by far the best results. I'm a huge fan... I know it's not the best remedy, but hey...I get desperate so I bake like George Hamilton!!
