    smooth legs, brown spots

I keep reading this forum and it seems like everyone has some sort of bumps. I have no bumps on my legs but I have brown spots all over them, all over calves and thighs, I'm Chinese by the way. Seems like all treatments I have read are for those with bumps and red spots.

Has anyone found anything at all effective for smooth brown bumps all over legs?

I can understand exfoliation helping for those with bumps but I don't have any bumps, just dark brown spots all over my leg.....

    Me too

I do as well. I am 33 and I have always had strange spots on my legs, but they have gotten darker and more numerous (as well as appearing on my arms) in the past 1-1/2 years. I am currently using 6% salacylic (sp??) acid from the dermatologist, but after researching a 'little" I am also using buckthorn oil soap and I plan on using some calcium supplements. Just started this.

Well I've just started using dermabrasion and amlactin. I've been using amlactin for about 6 weeks and not a hell of a lot has happened. Seeing that my legs are already smooth, I don't expect much which the dermabrasion though it does make my skin even smoother but even if you had non kp skin, when you take out the dead skin cells, your legs do become smoother.

I figure that I might as well use the dermbrasion for a month and then try 15% acid following the method of turquoise on this site though I am not really anticipating it too work too well. I'll be taking a break on dermabrasion for 5 days have my initial use of the first few days, heheh going on a road trip.

I dont think anything for "keratosis pilaris" will work on those brown spots. All the products out there are to smooth the skin not fade or remove brown dots.

I accidently burned my leg when i was standing back facing the a heater i stepped back and got burnt on the bars. The skin that turned brown from the burn peeled off eventually and the brown dots were still behind that so i dont think its a surface problem. Its much much much deeper. So i dont think that exfoliation is enough to fade those marks.
ITS SOMETHING ELSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Inflammation probably but what do we use to ease that inflammation and allow the skin to heal and return to normal. If any of us even remember what normal is anymore!

I've tried the fade cream, and it doesn't work. Don't waste your money.

    Re: smooth legs, brown spots

I have the same problem. Although my skin is ultra white and the dots are reddish-purple. If you google KERATOSIS PILARIS that is what it looks like. I almost think it is related to circulation issues. Has anyone ever noticed that at times the dots are either lighter or darker than usual?

    Re: smooth legs, brown spots

There are many times my dots seem darker or lighter than usual. When I stand on one leg a while (applying lotion), kind of predictably, the dots on that standing leg get darker. In the morning, when I get out of bed, they're a lot lighter than usual. Circulation probably has a lot to do with it - any time I'm very hot (and thus blood flows closer to the skin), dots seem darker. Or, any time I'm very cold so that the non-dotted skin seems lighter, then the dots are relatively darker.

Yup, all of this happens with me as well, exactly as stated.

About KeratosisPilaris.org

Keratosis Pilaris is a very common benign genetic skin condition. KeratosisPilaris.org is the definitive resource for KP on the internet.

KP appears as rough or bumpy skin on the back and/or outer sides of your upper arms. The severity of the symptoms varies from person to person. You can also manifest it on the face as a natural blush (known as KPRF or Keratosis Pilaris Rubra Faceii).

This community is composed primarily of KeratosisPilaris.org community members, but is also open for those interested in the topic.
