I don't get any reaction to the foods that cleared.
There is a total of 4 foods that haven't cleared, and may never clear. Gluten, milk, lactose, corn. If I eat something with one of those foods in it, I do get a few bumps, but after about a week it totally goes away. read my answer to sassafras63 it gives you an idea of when my foods cleared, again everyone is different. |

Thanks so much, baronster, for answering my many questions - that's reassuring to know that the process didn't take all that long. And thanks, too, for all the food tips! I love spelt but have never heard of kamut - just found a bread machine recipe online that uses both, so now I need to get myself to the natural foods store.
Emailing a naturopath to ask if they perform vega tests.... |

At christmas I cook dinner for the whole family, and I really wanted gravy on my turkey. I used spelt flour instead of regular flour, and not one person noticed any difference to previous years, as my gravy is a favorite.
Do you have a whole foods near you? I know they are american chain which also is here in Vancouver, they have everything in one store. I used spelt and kamut flour as substitions for everything wheat. I also ate kamut cereal, they look like rice crispies on steriods, the bonus is they have a nutty taste, so they tasted better than commercial cereal anyways. There is so many foods to try once you get tested, it really opens your mind. |

Thanx for the food tips Baronster. I am going to keep looking for the vega test here. But in the meantime I have been reading up on gluten free eating. It looks like a challenge. But I think I am off the the health food store in hopes of finding some ideas.
I have a question about the yeast. You said you got it down to a lower number. I understand that it feeds off of sugar? What are some signs that I may have a high count of yeast? Going sugar free and gluten free has got to be a challenge. |

Yes, we have several stores near us (Wild Oats and two locals) thankfully. And we eat a lot of organic unprocessed foods already, but we'll just have to do some research and both expand and narrow our ingredients list. Just that my husband's a bread nut, so I needed the quick solution to wheat breads. I'm excited about the spelt and kamut recipes I found! Will have to look for the kamut cereal, too - that'll help. Just tried spelt crackers and liked them, now will have to give up Triscuits - that won't be easy. Last fix needed is for pita bread...
We both LOVE to eat, and fortunately we eat pretty healthily so weight's not too bad an issue, but it's hard to imagine giving up some really yummy healthy things. (Or me giving them up and watching him still eat them!) At least it might only be temporary for most things. Just really appreciate your advice, experience and encouragement, baronster! |

Baronster its funny you should mention yeast, candida and antibiotics; a woman I worked with talked about how she thought she had candida but a doctor wouldnt prescribe anything as, Im not sure about overseas but in england its not thought of as a medical condition, she had many symptons including KP and after sticking to a candida diet her skin improved.
In Uni I had to almost constantly take anitibiotics thanks to a hideous viral infection that just would not go away (the non stop partying didnt help either) round the same time my KP occured, Iv never put the two together until now. Im researching a lot of naturpaths at the moment but having trouble getting replies but the ALCATs a go so fingers crossed. |

candida yeast
there are many symptoms, individually none of theses points to a candida problem, rather it is the combined incidence of having many of these symptoms
fatigue or lethargy feeling "drained" feeliing spacey poor memory muscle aches abdominal bloating constipation diarrhea loss of sex drive problems with menstral cycle PMS drowsiness mood swings headaches rashes heartburn indigestion belching hemorroids dry mouth blisters, cancer or rash in mouth bad breath swollen joints dry or sore throat nasal itching coughing shortness of breath burning when urination recurrent ear infections low thyroid function ear pain fluid in ears depression candida thrives on a diet rich in simple carbs, so all sweets and refined foods should be avoided while trying to kill them off. I had some of these symptoms like belching, indigestion, farting, lethargy, depression, pms and menstral problems, loss of sex drive, headaches and mood swings. I still didn't realize that the yeast was causing these problems. It is so nice in the morning i don't have bad breath and never get it unless I eat garlic or onions, and all of the other symptoms have gone away. I remember I took my first test Oct 30, and me next period was Nov 23, and I thought there might be something wrong because my period was so different. My body was so changed already, i didn't even require midol, and my flow was normal and didn't experience bloating. I e-mailed my doctor and told her it was a miracle. I am not sure if there is any connection to the KP, but there could be? If people post their results, we can look for common factors. I was just so happy to get so many health benefits from just doing one test, it is like solving a whole host of medical conditions by just adjusting your diet for really a short period of time. |

eating gluten and sugar free
I tell you it is a challenge, especially if you eat take-out or processed foods, or at restaurants., which most people do.
I just made this my number one priority in my life, I read labels of everything I bought and made lots of homemade food. I think that is why I was so successful. You get motivation as you FEEL your body change, it changes in every way. here is what I would eat on a typical day. Beakfast: Kamut cereal with soy milk. Lunch: toasted kamut/spelt bread made without yeast, with either home roasted turkey or chicken, and loads of vegs and mustard and cracked pepper. dinner: roast yams or sweet potatoes with butter and some sort of veg and meat like chicken with curry or roast pork tenderloin with spice rub. Stuff like that, I promise you what I made tasted WAY better than take-out or proccessed foods, and I didn't need to snack as I felt completely satisfied. If i did snack, I found these yummy spelt snacks by IKE and SPIKE that were nutty and better than chips. Just try not to worry about how hard this is, because it really wasn't once I decided to plan ahead and shop at the grocery store, it became very easy. |

Yum! It all sounds great! And here I am asking another question then. About that yeast-free kamut/spelt bread, was that purchased or homemade? (And if homemade, do you have a recipe you're willing to share?) Thanks once again - you truly are kind, generous and patient!

I bought this bread, but if you want to make homemade stuff, I suggest "bob's red mill" products. They are in every organic or health store, and he has so many products to buy, check out his website for recipes WWW.bobsredmill.com
the company is based in Oregon. and ask as many questions as you want, I'm sure you are asking what others are thinking. |

Vancouver girl
You are so lucky to live in Vancouver, you are in good hands.
Everything started to change after about 2 weeks. Energy levels were so increased I could go to the gym, work-out and not feel tired at all. My sleep patterns changed after about 3 weeks. I went from sleeping 12 hours a day to a normal 8 hours a day. My skin was very inflamed, I want to say almost infected it was so red and littered with red dots, and my bumps were quite large in some areas. I noticed after 2 to 3 weeks, the inflamation going down in my bumps, and every day it seemed after that it just got better and better. The larger bumps dissapeared last as I think they have been on my body for years, about 4 weeks ago I'd say. I never expected those to dissapear During this whole entire time I used no acids or lotions or creams for my KP. I only use oils on my body to moisterize, if your skin is feeling really dry, use olive oil instead of coconut oil, and then take a bath with a couple of teaspoons of olive oil in it. Your body will be sooooo soft, and no dryness My only advise about oils are, the coconut oil is not greasy so you can put clothes on shortly after using, but olive oil will feel slick so don't plan on wearing clothes anytime after applying. Please let us know what your results are when you get tested. My doctor is in on Mon and Wed, and can fit you in usually right away, but she has to schedule the Vega tester, I had to wait a week for test. Ask to see the doctors skin when you go to see her, you will be amazed. |

forgot to answer slump question.
NO slump at all.......nothing got worse before it got better, everything just improved everyday. Oh I did have one set back, I ate potatoes at christmas, and got KP the next morning on my forehead and right hand, which kind of freaked me out a bit, because I never had it in those places before. I vowed not to never cheat after that, and my KP cleared after about a week or less in those spots. |
