anyone like me?
Hi- my first post. I have been reading for about an hour happy to see others experiencing the same frustration as me (because I have some shoulders to lean on, not because I'd wish this on anyone). I am biracial with light brown skin. My kp began when I was about 10 in very small spots on the backs of my upper arms and thighs. With each of my two children, I saw the condition worsen and it is creeping down my calves and across the top of my rear. Like you, I have tried many things. I see most of the postings describe "red bumps" mine are dark brown and seem extremely noticeable to me (probably because I produce melanin but my skin is lighter). Is there anyone else with bumps like mine, and has anyone tried bleaching creams like they use to remove freckles to lighten the spots?
Thanks- I'd love to wear skirts above my ankles for the summer. |

the only reason y i think they are brown is because you have tanned them too much!! you shouldn't go outside without using sun block because:
1) it worsens the kp 2) it causes the kp to scar the dark brown bumps 3) skin cancer (knock on wood) but i really think you should put on sun block because now your skin is even more vulnerable to #3...!! |

I was just wondering, why you shouldn´t sunbade with kp.
My skin at least on my face becomes much better in the summer, when the sun shines. The redness goes away, and it the bumps straighten out! am I the only one who gets better in the summertime. |

AHA didn´t help for me, just made my sceen peel but the bumps didn´t go. Got it from the doctor, stronger than you can by from stores.

I went to a kind of upscale beauty store in my city called Ulta. They had all sorts of lotions and things that have been mentioned on this site.
try Ulta.com and search for one near you.... |

Better KP over Summer
Hi kp_09,
I'm an aussie and live in the sun all summer down here. I also find that my KP improves over summer. I have been informed by health professionals here that is because one of the major problems with KP is that it is a Vitamin D deficency. Sunlight is a good source of Vitamin D, however as woainiiloveyew said make sure you always use sunscreen. It doesn't negate the Vitamin D effect but will provide protection against the UV rays that can potentially cause skin cancers. Good luck |

What I've been told about kp improving if exposed to the sun, is that the upper skin layer gets thicker (because sun damages skin cells - the same reason why you get tanned) and therefore kind of "hides" the unsightly appearance of kp. Perhaps vitamin D plays some minor role, but I don't think it's the main reason for improvement. In fact, when the tanned skin layers peel off, kp returns, possibly worse than before. Last year, I spent quite some time in the sun in summer, applying sunscreen generously and my kp didn't improve as much as in past years, when I was a bit sloppy with the sunscreen.
