My KP regimen ( 20 years and going!)
I just found this board, and it's amazing. Thank you to its sponsors for doing this, for so many years, I thought I was one in a billion.
I wish I had pictures to share from way back, but I will share what I do that works for me to manage my KP. I had (and unless I maintain my regimen will always have) KP, I would say a medium case of it, not mild not as bad as I 've seen some. A long time back, I had a dermatologist that recommended a 3% salicylic acid and 10% sulfur soap regimen together with a loofah brush or similar, and a sulfur ointment when it all was too drying. It took me about 4 weeks to really tell a difference, and I've been doing this for 20 years. Whever I slack and stopped doing it, it came back within about a week. So it's just something that I do as a routine every night. There are two brands of soap out there that fit the bill, one is made by Stieffel and the other is made by www.SulfurSoap.com called SAL3 soap. The Stieffel brand and the SAL3 brand are both very good. Competition is good, as it helps keep the price down. The SAL3 by the way is the same soap that can be found at www.KPsoap.com Whichever you get, make sure it has the 3% salicylic acid in it. It makes a huge difference, don't just get plain sulfur soap. When my skin gets scratchy, I put a little of sulfur ointment on, as it cools and soothes after I finish exfoliating nightly/ The biggest drawback is the odor of sulfur. I just deal with it. It's not that bad for me, but for some it's too much to take. Everybody has their sensitivities. Hope this helps. toodles. KP59 |

thanks for sharing in detail your regime - I wish there was a place on the board where we could put posts like this that provide clear instructions and proof that KP can be kept under control.
The danger is that this post will get lost amongst all the others. I hope you hang around on the board to provide help to those struggling with controlling KP as you obviously know what helps |

Hey KP59!
Sounds great what you´re writing here! I just recently discovered that my ugly looking skin condition is called KP. (I have bumbs, red rash and dots all over my arms, legs and butt) And now (after uncountable years of hiding and feeling ashamed) I decided to really start fighting it. I am so glad that I found this forum cos unfortunately there is only very few information about KP and its treatment in Germany (where I come from). So as far as I understood, it seems to be a good start to exfoliate and use lotions that give humidity to the skin. I use a 10% Urea lotion and Kerapil (a French lotion especially for KP) every day after my showers and just asked my pharmacy to create this 3% Salicyl + 10% Sulfur soap. (I also ordered the original today just to make sure I have the right soap! )Sometimes I also exfoliate my skin with a peeling glove. Additionally, I take Omega 3 and Vitamin A supplements. (I heard that a lack of those could be one cause for KP) I hope this will work out for me in a couple of weeks. My skin is already a lot smoother and I have the feeling that the rash is improving. You said you have your KP under control by using the KP soap. May I ask what you mean by this? Do you get rid of the weird looking red dots too? Cos this is what bothers me most actually. My bumbs are not that bad. I would be greatful for answers! Thanks for posting your treatment!!! Jana |
