Is this KP?
I have read a lot on this great forum, but I am not sure if I have KP or not from what I've read on the posts. I have seen a doctor who looked at me VERY quickly and told me I had KP; but honestly he looked so fast I don't know if he really saw it or not.
What I have sounds lot like what most people describe here but with one major difference: I don't have bumps, I just have red spots. It seems everyone here has bumps at hair folicle sites.... I don't have the bumps but I do have redness at the folicles. The hair exiting the folicles is normal with no bumps or ingrown hairs. The skin feels smooth and not rough or bumpy. I mainly have it on my lower legs all the way up to where my socks stop (its as if wearing socks caused it), and then I have it above my knees maybe 1/3 of the way up my legs. I have attached a pic. Today the spots aren't too red but you can still see them. I know most of you aren't doctors, but if you know you have KP and it looks just like mine, then maybe you can confirm that this really is KP. I would also like to hear any success stories for this type of KP (non-bumpy... if that's what it is) by using the AHA lotions because I think I will try those first. Thanks in advance for any help! |

if you have a bunch of tiny red spots, it's probably kp. it's sort of hard to tell from the pic because of the hair. my lower legs are covered with tiny red dots that are flat (easy to see because i shave my legs). on my thighs, i have both tiny red dots and some bumps, but mostly red dots.
just don't shave your legs and no one will ever know! ![]() |

Hi - I am guessing you probably had KP bumps on the tops of your arms when you were younger but maybe these have faded now? - but you are still left wtih this stubborn red dots around the hair follicules on the parts of your body that are not regular exposed to air/sunshine. (maybe this explains the sock line - do you wear socks regularlly???)
I am a bit the same. My KP bumps disappeared around my 30's but I notice that I still have these red dots on the tops of my legs. The areas that have been exposed to sun and air no longer have any dots. I am guessing (as this is just some theory I have thought up just now!) is that maybe with some people KP bumps disappear with age however those areas of the body not exposed to sunshine still retain the redness. I guess to prove this theory correct you would have to wander around in shorts with no socks for awhile and see if the redness disappeared at all. Just a theory - but I can't explain any other way why my arms once covered in KP are now clear but the tops of my legs which were never really bad still have stubborn red dots. |

Thanks for the replies. anne, I do wear socks like 100% of the time and rarely wear shorts. I'm 31 now and never really had KP when I was younger that I recall. I think it was my taking accutane in my 20's that brought it on.
I guess I will try to go back to the dermatologist and ask him if there is any possible way it could be something else. If not, then I guess I'll start with the AHA creams. |
