Hi..I'm only 18 and after doing some research I found out I have this keratosis pilaris ****.
Its very frustrating because I am also a fashion model and will be doing a lingerie show this year along with working with various designers..I have to get rid of this very soon!!!! I've recently begun eating a lot of Omega-3s and I'll see how that goes...anyone have tips on getting rid of this off of the lower body (i have it on butt, thighs, and hips) ? My only problem is it just looks like my skin looks red..pretty mild..not severe or anything. On shows they put us in nylons and use a bunch of cremes and tanning lotions so the skin looks flawless but I would feel a bit embarassed having someone rub creme on the keratosis pilaris! Anyone use any certain herbs or alternative medicine (Chinese, Ayurveda...etc) that helped? Anyone use sauna and had it help? Also anyone know if drinking milk makes it worse? I recently stopped drinking milk and my entire body feels so much better..but the redness still there ![]() Anyone use sauna and had it help? I read that heat makes it less visible but for me it makes it worse! |

short term help is tanning but as for treatments, if you read through the 1000s of threads, there is no clear cut treatment.

Yes I've been noticing that! Foolish me I thought it was easy to get rid off! I can't go tanning but I will use self-tanners in about a month..thank you for replying

no problemo. the trick is not to let it get to you. a lot of people do and have and it can impact on your emotional state.
gotta remember, its only KP, it's not like you have 3 ears or 7 fingers. |

Exactly! Before I found out it was called "keratosis pilaris", I thought that it was just skin redness some people get..if I wasn't involved in a job where I have to show my skin a lot I probably would have never even looked into it and just ignored it..the name itself makes it sound like such a disease or something

lol. a lot of people on the board are very aware of it so its good you can be so relaxed about it.
for me, its an annoyance. lukily, its basicaly on my arms and very mildy on my thighs so if you look at me straight on, its really no biggy. |

hey thats good..mine is mild too..you know I never notice things like that in guys..I dont recall ever seeing a guy and noticing anything different with his skin..hmm do you work out or use weights? I wonder if that affects it. I like to go to the gym and I've gotten toned but I still get the redness

yea, i go to the gym and wear a training vest. Ironically, making progress and showing off my skin has made me more confident. If I was skin and bones in the gym it'd be different story but i've made good progress so it doesn't look to shabby now.
The redness may be a factor, but if you're attractive people will see past the red. |

if you really want to get rid of the redness, go to your derm. and ask for potent corticosteroids

corticosteroids can't be taken for long periods of time as the side effects will have serious consequences to your skin.

thanks for advice jnhdaemon, but id rather stick to something natural..i drink ginseng everyday and i'm taking some other herbs right now so i dont want to risk having something serious happen if i mix in prescription medicine

use a sauna once a week ! u have to get your skin hot and soft to get the dead skin off. Use a pumice stone right after the sauna and u will be amased. Your skin needs to breath

i used to go to the sauna 2,3 times a week for a few months..it only made my KP worse
pumic stones sometimes work but only for a day..sometimes they dont work at all |

I have seen a reduction in redness using a laser treatment but that's expensive. There are tons of products on the market now that will hide or treat the redness. Try a moisturizer to hide/treat rosacea. If you're using things like a pumice stone - STOP! This is not going to help the redness and probably makes it worse.
I'd suggest you try: 1. An AHA like glycolic acid. It's widely available and a natural derivative of sugar. 2. Stop scrubbing. Use an AHA acid to exfoliate instead. 3. As I mentioned before - try some products meant to treat redness on the face. Any drugstore will have several to choose from these days. |
