Genetics and ichthyosis vulgaris
I read several articles on keratosis pilaris that have stated a link between KP and a skin condition called ichthyosis or ichthyosis vulgaris. I have no family history of this skin condition and it's not nearly as common as KP. So, i'm just wondering if anyone on this board has a family history of ichthyosis.
Here's a link for more info: http://www.emedicine.com/derm/topic678.htm |

I don't have the bad scaling like in ichthyosis, but I get a scaly look on my shins when my skin is under-moisturized.

i have this
hi there. i have this condition. I started a thread on this a few days ago, but no one responded, so I went ahead and looked up more info on this.
Apparently, it is a 50/50 chance your child will get this and it is autosomal dominant from the carrier. I believe it is X-linked (mom will give this). I just googled the name and treatment and found this info out. I wish there was a support group for this, because I do have KP, but I am more embarrassed of the scales that seem to be spreading on my lower shins. Oh yes, my mom does not have either- but she says my condition is common in her family (she didn't know the name, and she is from a third world country- so these skin conditions are their least worries!). My brother has eczema, and I had this before, but it has pretty much gone away (I am 30, he is 32). But, I have always had KP, and the ichthyosis vulgaris to me, seems as though it is spreading... sorry for the long windedness, but i thought i'd share my 2 cents ![]() |
