KP: My Discovery
This may sound really strange but I need to get it off my chest.
I guess I've had KP forever, as long as I can remember. When I started shaving in grade 6 I remember being excited to have smooth legs like everyone else. I shaved and instantly after coming out of the shower I had red dots over every hair follicle everywhere. My mom scolded me and told me it's because I didn't know how to shave properly. Since I have a lot of hair on my legs and it's black, I tend to shave often, even my thighs. I would get out of the shower and look in the mirror and be so frustrated at the fact that I had red dots no matter how carefully I shaved. I am now in grade 12. I worked at a summer camp all summer and went swimming one time for the swim test. I wore shorts one day only because the weather was disgusting. I am so ashamed of my legs it's ridiculous. I used to think it had to do with shaving and as I said, my legs have a lot of hair so I figured it's got to be ingrown hair or something. I'd complain to my mom about the red dots and she would say "listen, I am the same. Look" and show me her legs which had red dots too. She'd comfort me and tell me not to worry and that it's just our skin and how it's made. So I decided after buying my 3d razor this year (It's a male one, Fusion I think it's called, by Gillette- it's amazing!), that this would be the end to all my worries. I looked on the internet and found the "proper way to shave" and i spent a good 2 hours shaving my legs with care. I came out moisturized them and look. Those red dots were all there, going up to my butt. I then decided tanning could maybe help hide it so I've gone tanning twice so far. I have never been before and I'm really desperate. Then I decided to do further research as I went to the doctor who didn't say much and told me everybody's different. I found out about KP. Instead of feeling upset or broken down that I have a disease with no cure, I became ECSTATIC. I was so happy that I was right all along. I KNEW it had nothing to do with shaving. I was prepared to go get laser hair removal to get rid of these dots. I ran to tell my parents who seem to think I have become really shallow because I've been obsessing over a stupid thing like "red dots" for so long. So I did the Oil Pulling this morning for 20 mins with sesame seed oil. I hope it works. I'm so happy to have found I'm not alone and that there are certainly others that know how I feel. If I could improve my KP i would be so happy, I could feel comfortable in my own skin and really, that's all I want. |

good for you, i am hoping to do the oil pulling soon too, tell us if it works for you!
and i have a quick question for anyone that is going to be reading it.. is picking at the bumps bad? this might sound disgusting, but i use tweezers sometimes to pull out the hair follicle. it's really rewarding, just wondering. thanks! |

Hi peaches
I think my kp started after i started shaving too i think. Its been so long since then i cant remember. My arms are fine and i dont have any pimples or kp on my face ,neck ,chest or back area its just those stupid red dots all over my legs that just so stubborn. My legs are very smooth and not dry and bumpy but i think its because my body wash has a acid in it and so does my lotion. I also started oil pulling three days ago. So ill see how that works. My main problem i would say is the cluster of red dots on my calves that looks very ugly. My thighs has ugly picking scars ( ELC that was caused by picking the hair out the follicle) i dont have that ingrown hairs and trapped hairs no longer as i said my legs are smooth now. Maybe those red dots will go away eventually. I hope so. |

I don't know I have had KP as long as I can remember my mom had it as did my dad but when my mom had me it went away on her, I guess it was a gift. LOL. I had it on my legs as a little girl, but it went away, now I have it on my arms, chest, back, neck and face. It's good times, I can't say that any one thing brings it on more or that any one thing makes it go away. I've been using coconut oil for a few months now with no big result so I feel a bit stuck. I don't feel self concious about it anymore but I do WISH I could just have smooth skin, I'm sick of having bumpy skin. Anyway that's my wonderful KP story, I'm still looking for a "cure". Do you think laser hair removel would work??
