I found something that works for me and Q re genetics
I just wanted to share my experience with everyone and let you know that I have found something that works for me!!
I started noticing KP when I was a teenager although I didn't realize what it was until a couple of months ago (I am 31!). It started on my legs, and then my arms. Like everyone else, I hated summer time as I was too ashamed to wear short skirts or tank tops, but I have always been into fashion so it was hard to dress stylish yet still cover up! I hated going otu with my friends because I was always the girl wearing the most clothing!!! I always thought the skin condition was acne (as I used to have bad acne on my face and shoulders) or stress related. Once I hit my late 20's, I decided I had enough of covering up my skin and started wearing tanks and skirts. My KP does get better during the summer and I try to get as much sun as possible which helps. I have always been very self conscious but I think as you get older you don't care what others think of you as you. A couple of months ago I was in a store trying on wedding dresses with my mom and in the middle of the room she yelled "what is that on your arms!". I was so embarassed and it really did change my mood. I went to my doctor who told me it was KP caused by dry skin and not to worry about it, it would go away if I moisturized my skin. I have always had oily skin and afraid to moisturize so I almost fell off my chair when she told me I had dry skin!! I started moisturizing with Lachydrin every day but saw no results. I then tried KP duty and tried exfoliating, nothing worked. I was at the mall and went into a store called Belle De Provence, they have a line of shower gels and moisturizers made with olive oil, the one I bought is Olive & Rosemary. I bought it only because I wanted something that smelled nice, and after a couple of days of using it in the shower I noticed results with my KP!! The KP on my arms is not completely gone, but there is a huge improvement! The ingredients in the shower gel include water, olea europaea (olive) and urea. I personally think it is the olive oil that did the trick. I went on to the Belle De Provence website and it looks like it is only available in Canada. The products are not cheap, the shower gel was about $24.00 but well worth it if you ask me. Sorry for the long post, but it is nice to finally be able to share my story with someone and I am very happy about my results! I am gettng married next year and my fiance has minor KP on his thighs. My only concern is that if we have children, they will get KP also. Does anyone have information on this? My doctor told me KP is genetic. |

Hmm, I wonder if it was the urea that made the difference? Some people have had success with urea lotions/creams.
