Hi- new here and need help
I'm new to this message board, which by the way is a wonderful idea, and my KP kicked in after I gave birth a little over a year ago. I have the bumps on my arms and the upper legs. The ones on my legs are just scarred spots now -no raised bumps. But the KP on my arms are bumpy and very red. I have used Glytone body wash (Dried up my elbows really bad), Amlactin (Didn't do much), sulfur soap (which has helped a lot) and lastly Lacticare prescription (It has also helped) but I really want something to take the redness away.
I read some old archives about mixing lotion (ie. Amlactin or Curel) with Salicyic Acid (Wart remover??) What is that about? Also- I'm kind of confused as to why giving birth brough out this condition? If you read this, please reply with what you've used and how it has worked for you -please. My determatologist is a ditz and really can't provide me with much info. I know you have to work your way out - but I really need some advice on what to use for redness removal. I'm sorry this is so long but I need help. I'm so ashamed of these damn bumps. Please help this newly "infected" mommy. ![]() Lily |

postpregnancy/kp!
Lily,
I'd always had some bumps on my arms but they didn't bother me and I had no idea what they were. 6 months after giving birth, I now have red bumps all over my legs and some on my forearms. My dermatologist said KP often comes out post pregnancy but didn't say why - I wonder if it is hormonal. Are you breastfeeding? The sulphur soap has worked a bit for me, but I try not to exfoliate too roughly or it seems to not work as well. I follow the soap with AmLActin 12% on one leg and Lach-hydrin on the other. The Am Lactin definitely keeps the moisture in my skin longer, I've noticed a bit of a difference but not nearly as much as I'd hoped - it's almost been a month of use now. I used the Soul Owner as an experiment but found it didn't work as well. I also used Dove Nutrium Wash for a more pleasant shower experience (followed by the sulphur soap) but not sure I've really found that helping the red bumps much. Let me know if you find something that works - it is horrible having to deal with all this in the wake of new motherhood as well! GOOD LUCK. |

Hello. No - I never breastfed. I know this may be a little weird, but I shaved one arm (upper) and it seems to be better than the other hairy arm.
Yeah - its tough. My son has some kp on his cheeks too. His DR. gave me some Elidel samples but I haven't really used it too much on him. I don't want anything to get in his eyes. I try to put it on before bed - when I remember. - hardly ever. I will keep everyone informed of anything that works for me. Thank you for the information. Lily |

I've been thinking about shaving my arms too, just because the hairs on my arm are all crazy- really thin and they all go different directions, thank god they're fairly colorless. I'm sure the shaving helps as part of the exfoliation process. I just haven't done it yet because I'm afraid of stubbies and the hair growing back thicker and darker. Don't know if arm hair is like that though. Any suggestions?

Well - I didn't have much hair on the upper arms that I shaved. They have grown back normally.
My derm. said that getting lazer hair removal may work but will only be a temp.fix. But what does she know anyway. I'm so glad that I have people to chat with about our condition. Thanks- Lily |
