Hi,
newbie from the UK here. Ive got KP bad on my arms (and thighs) but was wondering before I try to harder lines of action such as AHA etc... what do you reckon of exfoliation? Would exfoliation reduce redness? Also, how do I exfoliate? Any help on this would be seriously appreciated. Mark |

There seems to be two main schools of thought with kp. Those who treat with moisturising those who treat with acids scrubbing and abrasion. Personally for many years I scrubbed myself raw and used every strong drying wash on the market thinking that kp was some form of acne. But my skin is actually very dry and sensitive so I did more damage than good.
I have now decided to treat with moisture and have had much better results. For the past 2 years I have been taking omega oil suppliments which have made my skin less dry tight and red. The most exfloiating I do now is use a soft wash cloth maybe once a week. I had also been using almond oil after I shower but have recently switched to coconut oil after discovering this forum. I rub it in throughly whilst still in the shower and have noticed improvements in just 2 weeks. I have also being doing the oil pulling which I found out about on this forum. It has only been 3 weeks but I have had the best results ever with this. First thing I noticed was smooth elbows then kp started to get better. Probably at 60% - 25% improvement in different areas just now and hoping for even more. Thought it was worth a try as an inexpensive and safe treatment to try, even if your family will tease you about it. My husband is so impressed with the results that he's started! Check out the cured at last thread for more info. You can get pure coconut oil from holland and barratt £9.99 for a big tub, not as cheap as crisp 'n' dry but a lot cheaper than trying every fancy cream and scrub on the market as I did. Might be a good idea for you to take a good look at your skin (get a friend to help) and decide what is your skin type. If you have dry skin like me then maybe the moisturising root would be better for you. But if you have very oily skin perhaps one of the scrubbing of peeling methods might work better. If you are somewhere in between why not try one regime for a month and if no improvement try the other to see if it suits you better. Must admit I am also a bit too lazy to do all that dry exfoliating, then soaking in bath for 30 mins then loafering before rubbing in piles of moisturiser. New regime is quick and easy so I will stick to it. Hope you find some relief soon ![]() |
