hi. i'm new. my name is meghan. i've just discovered that the bumps that i have all over my legs, especially my lower legs, is kp. i'm starting to get into some home treatments but i haven't seen anything in my research about whether or not to shave. i'm wondering if shaving my legs would help, by exfoliating them or if it would hurt, by cutting off the bumps and inflaming the skin. has anyone else had kp on their legs or know about this shaving question?

Hi, i have one or two kp spots on my legs. I never find it hurts when i shave over them, but if you have alot of kp on your legs i'd just go extra careful. Use a lubricating shaving cream or lotion to protect your skin and you should be ok. Maybe you should test on a small bit of your leg and see what happens?

I have found the "cutting off" the tips of the bumps happened when I had the higher, spinier type of bump. Sometimes they come to a little point at the tip and then the razor will nip that off and the whole area would sting a little. However, I didn't notice if it affected the KP that much in the long run.
Well, shaving is sort of a form of exfoliation, as it s****es off a layer of skin cells on the surface of the skin. Because of that, I think it could help KP skin in the long run, and hacking off those bumps *is* a way of exfoliating them, however crude. I don't think it would hurt it much, anyway, but it may complicate whatever other treatment you're attempting. Acids like Glycolic, Urea, and salicylic will sting like crazy if you have any broken or exposed, raw skin. The other thing to think about is that, the bumpier your skin is, the *less contact* the razor actually has with it, because it can't s****e down in the "valleys" between the bumps. And as your skin gets smoother (if you find a good treatment), you may start to get more irritation from shaving just because the razor is able to reach more of the surface area. |
