I'm 22 and from Singapore too. Had this dreaded disease since I was 14 and I've been trying so desperately hard to get rid of it. Seems like the dermatologists in Singapore are not confident of treating it and most of them that I've seen would tell me that the only way for it to clear is with age (one of them even estimated that it should get better by the time I reach 50!). There's no way I'm ever going to wait that long and by then, I'll have other skin problems to worry about (eg. wrinkles, sagging skin,...).
I've tried many recommended treatments from fellow sufferers of KP and have not found 1 which could cure me yet. I'm not going to give up anythime soon and I wish the rest of you the best of luck in your quest to free yourself from this disease. Last edited by baby_blue; 11-21-2006 at 07:32 AM.. |

I haven't tried coconut oil but I've tried other oil-based lotions. I don't really like the greasy feeling on my skin and I'm quite concern about the oil rubbing off onto my clothes. I've tried other oil-based moisturisers before and they made my condition worse. I'm not sure if its because the oil tends to clog my pores further or if the oil just makes acne appear on my arms (I'm quite prone to acne even though I'm on oral contraceptives) but somehow, my skin looks worst off than before applying oil-based lotions.
Presently, I'm trying out a 20% AHA lotion recommended by another member here. I'm seeing slight improvements but nothing significant yet. I'm hoping that it would be able to solve my KP problems by Christmas (it would be the best Chirstmas gift I ever receive!). |

Me too~
The other oil-based lotions made my condition worse too! But somehow the coconut oil works for me.. in the sense like.. less redness... maybe you can try that when you are desperate? Cos, I totally understand the greasy feeling etc.. Then again, I tried AHA 20% from the docs before too.. which is expensive.. My condition improved.. but not anywhere near clearing it up... *weep* Then, I have also tried the diamond peel and a mask treatment with a beauty salon during my worst off period.. Just once and you see great improvement! As in my skin was never that clear before! However, the price puts me off so much that.. unless I am desperate.. that I wont try again.. Hah~ Oh well, currently I stopped using all other methods and stick to try out Retin A from the NSC docs.. I am giving myself 2 months.. before I am going to say is it any better.. *Praying* Update me on AHA! If NSC method doesnt work.. think I might have to switch over to that~ ![]() |

Hi Anthea, may I know where you bought the coconut oil from and also what brand was it?
So far, the treatments I have received from the dermatologists (private clinics & NSC) I have seen are as follows: a) 10% salicyclic acid : Made condition worse as its oil based b) 0.1% Adapalene (Differin) : No noticeable effect c) 0.025% Tretinoin (Stieva-A) : Slight improvements on arms and reduced redness significantly but its quite expensive since 1 tube of cream lasts for 2 weeks if you apply twice daily. d) Sulphur with Calamine lotion : Leaves a fowl smelling body odour and the yellowish lotion could easily stain clothes. Didn't notice any improvements. e) 0.1% betamethasone (Dermasone) : Didn't remove the bumps but certainly helped reduced the redness significantly. Redness reappears once I stopped using the cream and long term usage of cream results in thin and wrinkled skin with the red spots becoming greyish-brown. f) 10% Benzoyl peroxide (Panoxyl & Oxy) : Managed to reduce the small colorless bumps but the larger ones or those with redness seem to be immune to it. In addtion, I have tried the following on my own: a) exfoliating with Clean & Clear Facial wash with Buff puff and salicyclic acid : Same results as Luffa treatment b) exfoliating with Luffa sponge : Need to spend quite a bit of time each day to scrub and hurts if you scrub too hard or if you scrub over some of the bumps which had ruptured and bled previously. c) 20% AHA solution : Currently testing this one out. Slight improvements seen after 1 month but nothing dramatic yet. |

To Sinapore
To Anthea, Baby_Blue and Sandra,
With all the positive results from oil pulling- How come you you are not doing the oil pulling. The doctors will not tell you about the oil pulling. If you try it (and do it correctly) and it dosn't work for you - I would be surprised. So far what I have read AND SEEN (with my daughter ) it works 100% of the time. I don't have KP but I do the oil pulling just for the extra smooth skin plus the many other benefits. Last edited by Skynard; 12-08-2006 at 11:48 AM.. |

Oil pulling takes lots of time from what I read. However, since my exams have just ended, I decided to try out oil pulling during this 1 month vacation break. I started with 1 tablespoon of sesame oil for 20 minutes today. Hopefully I can see some results in a few weeks time before my semester starts again. *sigh*

hey.. hope i'm not too late to join in too! i'm also from singapore and 18 yrs old.. it's true those oil based moisturisers the docs prescribed tend to make dots more obvious and redder/darker...
does the diamond mask really work? it's supposed to be for acne scars... apparently there's this really good doc in paragon.. i might try IPL to get rid of the redness and bumps, any advice? anyway.. whatever you do, don't EVER use veet hair removal mousse.. i used it, and it made my normal looking dots (i could still get away by wearing a skirt), into dark/purple red! i still live to regret that idiotic life-changing moment.. |
