Oil pulling treatment
Hello,
I am the forum member referred to in Molly Post's letter. I hope my experience will help some of you. I started oil pulling on Aug. 1 of 2006, hoping for better over-all health. After googling "oil pulling" and learning how it is done, I started using coconut oil and gently swishing 2 teaspoons through my mouth each morning on an empty stomach. Instantly, I noticed whiter teeth and a pinker tongue. The process is thought to remove toxins from the body, and I was curious as to what other health improvements I would notice. On day 21 of oil pulling, I realized my skin was 90-95% clear of all the little bumps. Then I remembered that for two days before, my upper arms had felt more dry and crusty than usual, but I didn't think anything of it at the time, since that skin was never smooth anyway. I now think this was the KP condition drying up and sloughing off. I took a trip to visit my sister for 3 weeks, and cut back my oil pulling to 10 min. each morning so we could start chatting as soon as we got up. The bumps started to come back. I resumed the 20 min. regimen, and they again diminished. For me, this was conclusive evidence that it was the oil pulling responsible for the clearer skin. I now do two 20-30 min. back-to-back sessions each morning to clear up the remaining 5-10%, and it is clearing. My skin is very smooth. Google "oil pulling" for more information. I hope some of you try this. Kebod Last edited by kebod; 04-12-2007 at 04:24 PM. Reason: change of title |

Is there a reason you chose coconut oil versus cold-pressed sesame or sunflower oil, which are recommended on the websites dealing with "oil pulling"? Is it due to the fact, many KPers are using coconut oil externally with some degrees of success?

reply to why using coconut oil
The only reason I use it is because I live in Mexico where cold-pressed and expeller pressed oils are not available. I already had brought the coconut oil from the States to use in cooking after reading how healthy it is. I have had amazing results with it, but look forward to trying safflower and sesame oil when I next have the opportunity to buy these oils in the States.
I hope you and others give the oil pulling a try. I still stroke my upper arms with my hands several times a day, marvelling how smooth they feel. |

Hey Kebod,
I definitely will try oil pulling, as applying expensive external creams and oitments just aren't cutting it. I think this condition has to be primarily addressed internally, then complimented with external applications like LacHydrin, Neostrata, Arbornne or BBW Eucalyptus/Spearmint Lotion. Molly Bloom stated her husband's bumps are gone, but the dots remain. Are the dots starting to fade over time Kebod with increased oil pulling? |

Why must one do it on an empty stomach?

SkinE, thats is also my concern. This theory makes sense, I think, and if it helps, I would do anything, but my problem is mainly the redness and not the bumps. I hope the redness also fades over time.

I'm sorry I can't answer the question about why to do oil pulling on an empty stomach. I'm guessing that if digestion is happening, that requires a lot of energy, and oil pulling and digestion would interfere with each other.
This is the oil pulling forum I belong to: http://curezone.com/forums/f.asp?f=738 There are others more knowledgeable than I who can answer your questions on that forum. If you go to that forum, you don't have to join to read the posts. This morning there was an excellent, scientific explanation of how and why the oil pulls toxins from the body. Information on how to do the oil pulling can be read here: http://www.oilpulling.com/ Many other sites can be found by googling "oil pulling". To SkinE and Belgiangirl, yes, the red dots are now almost gone. I can see the skin looking clearer by the week. Considering this was a long-standing condition of decades, I'm surprised how quickly it is returning to normal looking skin. Please let me know if this helps anyone. I would like to think this is not an isolated cure for me. |

I am really interested in trying this. I read the website and it looks like this isn't to rough to do and heck it doesn't hurt to try. I am interested in NAtural medicine and i believe that modern medicine tries to overpower the things that have been done for a long time!
Thanks for the testimony! Blessings Aldara |

Hello Aldaradeliah,
If you try this, please let me know if it worked for you. It took 3 weeks for me to notice a difference, so hang in there. I am now going on 6 weeks of clear skin, so I think the bumps are gone for good. The oil pulling is now part of my regular morning routine. My husband is used to it, and knows I won't be very conversational, aside from a few grunts, until I'm done with the pulling. He appreciates that I have found a natural, inexpensive cure. I agree with you that natural cures are better. They are cheaper and don't have the nasty side effects. kebod |

Explanation of how Oil Pulling works
I was given permission by a fellow Oil Pulling forum member, Emily E. Thayer, to post her explanation of how oil pulling works. This can also be read at:
http://curezone.com/forums/fm.asp?i=748471#i "Here are my thoughts, in a short form, of a biochemically trained brain. Pretty much everyone here is familiar with the detoxing benefits of an adequate water intake. Chemicals (molecules) come in two forms. Ionic and nonionic. Ionic chemicals are water soluble. When we detox our bodies, we drink lots of water to flush any unwanted toxins out of our body. WELL guess what? That's only half the picture. Nonionic molecules are soluble in body fat and cell membranes. * By oil swishing, you are doing the same thing for your body as when you drink a sufficient amount of water daily. You are giving toxins a medium in which to dissolve, then by spitting the oil out, you are removing whatever toxins came in contact with and dissolved into the oil. Using OIL is beneficial because it dissolves a different chemical class of pollutant/toxin than water. This is why you see healing first in the mouth, then later in different parts of the body. The toxins must migrate to the mouth before they can be removed with this method. This is also why switching to a different type of oil will create a new cycle of healing/detoxing. After you've oil-pulled long enough to "stabilize" your toxin level, you've removed as much toxin as you can with that particular oil. By using different oils with slightly different makeups, you will be able to dissolve slightly different toxins more effeciently. It is not a matter of your body getting "used" to anything -- it has to do with the chemical qualities of the oil itself. With this knowledge, there are a few more things you can do to keep the good feeling going. One I'll endorse is to eat low on the food chain. Any time you eat fat from an animal, you're ingesting the fat-soluble pollutants that were stored in the animal's body. Guess who buys organic milk and butter?? Ha ha. If you had an ample supply of appropriate oil, you could 1. coat your skin to excess, then remove after 15 minutes, or 2. use in an enema, preferably followed by a SWF to keep the toxins from migrating back into the bowel from any oil left after evacuating. These should have similar toxin-removing effects on your body, although they would be considerably more involved, messy, and costly due to the amount of oil required. I hope this has helped some in the community understand the Science behind oil-pulling. It's not magic, and it's not even that wacky. It's a good, healthy, direct application of chemistry. With this information in mind, you can see where oil-pulling for longer periods will give you a certain increase in benefits, but the daily wait in between cleansing is helpful to the process too. After all, the oil can not remove a toxin located in the bowel. The bloodstream and normal (slow) diffusion will have to carry it to the mouth before you can be rid of it. Think of your body as a sponge -- the oil can only clean one little spot of it at a time. Eventually the whole sponge gets clean... but it takes time and consistency. Please excuse my spelling. It never was very good. ![]() Thoughts welcome. * Membranes are made up of molecules with an ionic side (faces the water-rich world and the cell's interior) and a nonionic side (sandwiched together, creates a chemical barrier)." (end of Emily's post) There are many claims of benefits of oil pulling. For many of us, we experience the obvious ones, like a healthier mouth and gums, whiter teeth, but many of us are also finding out that there are health benefits we never imagined would occur because of this. For me, one of those unexpected benefits has been the end of the red bumps. The condition's name, Keratosis Pilaris, I only learned of this week when I informed my oil pulling forum about this. |

I'm curious as to why "oil pulling", which is based on detoxification seems to diminish KP, whereas many people who have tried full body flushes and cleanses received minimal improvement. However, I did read in a cleansing/detox forum, that someone got rid of most of their KP by doing the "Master Cleanse" for 30 days. However, that regimen is so much tougher than "oil pulling", it would be virtually impossible to do on an ongoing basis. Unless you were willing to live off of a primarily liquid diet for the rest of your life. Has anyone tried other full body cleanses or flushes and noticed an improvement in their KP?

oil pulling
My best guess is that oil pulling is effective because it removes those toxins that are oil soluble, while other cleansing methods may remove only the water soluble toxins. I want to emphasize that I am not a health care professional, and therefore cannot give you a medical explanation. I can only report what I have experienced. Daily oil pulling is a very easy regimen to follow and easy on the body, as there are not harsh reactions.
Ten weeks after beginning oil pulling, I am now about 99% free of the red bumps, and seem to be holding at that level, with all redness gone. |
