Sorry for the confusion.
I pull with coconut oil, and have never added oregano oil or tea tree oil to it.
Some have a reaction when they use tea tree oil directly on their skin (topically). That is what I did, and I had a bad reaction.
Molly suggested adding oregano oil or tea tree oil in minute quantities to the oil you use for pulling. When she read my post about reactions, she wanted everybody to know that tea tree oil may not agree with everyone.
The three links I posted advising of reactions were only about using topically -- directly on the skin-- not in oil for oil pulling. I don't know if there have been adverse reactions or not when used in pulling. I wil ask Molly to address this.

Essential Oils

One of the things we add to our oil for pulling is either a drop of Oil of Oregano or Tea Tree Oil. We do this for the benefits or oral hygiene. It works wonders for the gums.

But if anyone were to do this, we just wanted to give a head's up that some people are sensitive to these oils, as they are powerful natural antibiotics. They kill any disease in your mouth, and topically eradicate all bacteria...even good bacteria.

So, if this is added to anyone's oil, then one must do so with their eye's wide open. Knowledge is key.

That being said, the vast majority of people use these drops with no ill effect.

That's all we wanted to tell you all.

Cheers, Molly

To Kebod & Molly

Thanks for clearing that up.... Also, I'm gonna try adding a drop or two of spearmint oil in my orange juice every morning after pulling, b/c it's suppose to kill any bacteria in the body and may help with KP.. I read it in another post.... So, I'm going to add this to my regiment too.... Try things the natural way...

Thanks, Freakzilla

importance of water

Freakzilla,
Be sure to drink lots of water after oil pulling. It's important to rehydrate, and it is a form of cleansing as well.
Regarding the spearmint oil, one good thing leads to another, doesn't it. It's natural to try to improve all areas of our health once we start working on one part of it. I notice for myself that since I started oil pulling, I'm paying much better attention to my diet. It doesn't make sense to try to remove toxins if I'm ingesting even more. No more chocolate, no more ice cream...well, not much, anyway...
I read your other posting -- it will be interesting to see how you do with sesame oil/KP. From what I have read on the oil pulling forum, all the different oils being used all result in great benefits.
Keep us posted. Let us know how it goes.

oil pulling effect on kp

I didn't have kprf. I had slight bumping on my face, but no redness. Oil pulling did clear up my kp. I don't know what ua is. Hopefully, others reading this, who also have kprf and are now trying oil pulling will be able to answer you as to their own experiences.

Yes, i have it and I will let you guys know how it goes. Not sure if I see any significant improvement yet, but my cheeks do feel different now and aren't as irritable. Flare ups are still annoying as heck though

ok sooo, for three days now ( well two days and a morning) i've been oil pulling with safflower oil. the reason i did safflower is because the grocery stores i went to only had toasted seseame oil and no sunflower ( which is crazy lol ) so i went for safflower. I started pulling with 1 TBL spoon for 10 minutes but, i found it hard, not because of the taste which i didn't mind at all, but because it's hard for me to pull for a while without wanting to swallow. So now i do a half a tbl spoon for 5 minutes , and i'm going to work my way up. Although i havn't been using 1 or 2 tbl spoons i have noticed a difference, my kp is smoother it's not rough anymore which surprised me ( since i have only been using 1/2 tbl for 5 minutes ) and my teeth are actually stronger. It really for some reason though makes me happy to get up and oil pull, I really started singing the happy happy joy joy song when I woke up lol anyways so i'm going to keep doing this and try to work up to eventually to 2 tbl spoons, and keep you posted! by the way did anyone's red dots clear on their arms or legs ect...?

I have mild kp on my arms and after two weeks of oil pulling it is almost gone. Unfortunately, it has done nothing for my horrible kprf, which is what I aim to get rid of.

oil pulling

Paz y Amor,
I'm so happy you're having good results after just a few days. Others on the oil pulling forum have reported noticing changes for the better in their happiness level. It just goes to show you how far-reaching the effects of pollutants and toxins in us can be. I, too, actually look forward to getting up and pulling first thing. I think I notice I have more energy, also.
As far as using safflower oil, that is one of the two recommended oils, the other being sesame. I use coconut oil, some use olive oil, but we all have good results. One tablespoon is the recommended amount, so you don't have to work up to 2 tablespoons. I use 2 teaspoons (3 teaspoons to the tablespoon).
The redness on my arms, which was not severe -- mostly I just had bumps all over with a slight redness of the entire bump -- disappeared after 3 weeks of pulling. We each probably have different rates of how many weeks to pull until we notice changes.
Pull on and keep us posted.
kebod

Mew and StevenK,
We are all on a grand experiment to see the effect of oil pulling on KP, with some showing very good results already, two of us having complete healing. You two are in the vanguard of seeing if this helps with kprf as well. Depending on the specific health problem, some results are seen in days, some after weeks, and some after months. I really hope you do see results, but be aware of other changes you may have as well, such as sleeping better, healthier gums, clearer sinuses. I will be very interested in your future postings, and I'm rooting for all of you.

Kebod, thanks for always updating the threads re Oil Pulling.

Just asking a question of clarification though. I thought the oils recommended were sesame and sunflower (not safflower) oils? I think safflower oil and sunflower oil are two diff. things, or perhaps not? Can you please clarify? TIA!

I am into week two myself with sunflower oil and seeing good teeth results but not much else yet anyway. Pulling daily for 15-20 min one tbsp.

sunflower

Your are right -- it is sunflower. My mistake --sorry, and thanks for bringing this to my attention. Sunflower and safflower are two different oils.
Paz y Amor, note this correction.

Here is a description of how to oil pull from the Oil Pulling/Swishing Forum. I just double checked it to see which oils are recommended, and thought others would like to read the entire instructions.

Hello Everyone =)

I'm going to jump on this train - as I have always had mild but persistant KP (although never knew there was a name for it until recent times!). I also like the idea of oil pulling for general good health/detox.

I'm excited to start. Only problem is, I was at 2 stores today looking for the right oil. I found sesame oil, but not "refined". All the (non-toasted) sesame oil I've found is "unrefined". Same thing w/ sunflower oil. I'm not finding anything that says refined.

I actually have refined sunflower oil in the cupboard - but it's got to be very old by now. I can't even remember when I bought it. I think oils like this go rancid after a while so I don't want to chance it.

Can anyone recommend a particular brand that makes the ideal oil for pulling?

Thanks for any suggestions, and good luck w/ the oil pulling. So glad to hear this is working for some of you!

I'm using sesame oil, and I believe it will work for my kprf, but it will probably take months rather than weeks. I have not noticed any effects besides the clearing of kp on my arms, except for slightly cleaner-feeling gums. I'm not sure if my sesame oil is toasted, because it doesn't say (I assumed that it would tell me if it was), but it is fairly light in color so I'm thinking it's not toasted.
I've found that if you swish it towards the back of your mouth (not in the throat) the oil gets under the tongue more, and I would think that would facilitate the detoxification process.
