Re: Oil pulling treatment
Hi everyone! I'm a newbie here -
I started OPing yesterday using extra virgin olive oil (though I plan to pick up coconut oil soon). I apologise if this has already been asked: Has anyone tried OPing when sick? I had a bit of a sore throat yesterday, but by today it seems to have become a stuffy nose, sore throat and all-out misery. However when I OPed, the oil was still yellow when I spit it out after 25 mins -- even though I did the same thing I did yesterday, and it was clear then. So, I'm wondering if this is because I'm sick? Thanks for any input you might have -- and thanks for being here to answer questions. This forum was definitely a hidden gem. - Nefret |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Hi Nefret,
Welcome to the KP Forum and welcome to the oil pulling thread. I recommend that you keep with oil pulling if you have a cold. It can't make things worse, and can make things better. When I have a sore throat, the first sign of a cold for me, I also "pull" and gargle with warm salt water all day long, interspersing that with oil pulling. Olive oil tends to stay yellow. It doesn't turn white like other oils may. I don't know why it would be more yellow the second day you did OP. Please let us know if you see KP results with OP. Stay with OP at least 30 days to see results. kebod |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Hi again,
So, I started OP with coconut oil a week ago, and so far, I have noticed my skin is smoother in areas where I don't have KP. The bumps in my arms, chest, back, etc. have not diminished yet, though I believe they are changing a bit. I know there is no real explanation as how OP works, some say it draws toxins out of your body, others say it helps through sublingual absorption of EFAs. If the latter is true, then I was wondering if anyone has tried to add omega-3 or fat soluble vitamins (A, E) to oil as a carrier. That way we may be able to get enough of them if we had any digestive absorption problems. If anyone has tried this, would you let us know how it worked? I'll try to break an EPA (Omega 3) or Vit E cap and mix it with coconut oil and see if it works better than oil pulling with oil only. I hope also I'll see more changes in my skin after OPulling for some more time. Regards |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Alglez,
Below is a copy of a post of mine from the Oil Pulling Forum, http://curezone.com/forums/f.asp?f=738 dated September of last year. You may find it interesting, as it details the amounts of omega oil found in oils we use for pulling. Grams of omega 3 and omega 6 per one cup of oil. We can probably assume the oils analyzed were not organic or expeller-pressed, so the actual amounts may be higher when using the better oils. From Nutrition facts, calories in food, labels, nutritional information and analysis – NutritionData.com olive oil O-3 -- 1,644 grams O-6 -- 21,088 flaxseed oil O-3 -- 116,202 O-6 -- 27,689 coconut oil O-3 -- ~ O-6 -- 3,923 untoasted sesame oil O-3 -- 654 O-6 -- 90,042 sunflower oil O-3 -- 419 O-6 -- 7,860 avocado oil O-3 -- 2,086 O-6 -- 27,318 walnut oil O-3 -- 22,674 O-6 -- 115,310 No data for pumpkin seed oil, but this data given for dry pumpkin seeds (and squash seeds), one cup O-3 -- 250 O-6 -- 28,571 Interestingly, coconut oil contains no omega 3, yet I have great success with it regarding KP and other health issues. kebod Last edited by kebod; 07-17-2008 at 08:35 PM. . You can OP flaxseed oil all alone but when I tried that, I found it disrupted my hormones a bit - flax having phytoestrogens in it. BUT I DO recommend trying flaxseed oil at least mixed in particularly if you, like I, have inflammation issues anywhere besides your skin - joints, sinuses, god-knows-where... I don't think the OP helps your skin ONLY by the O3s (or maybe at all...) As kebod pointed out, the ratio of O3 to O6 in most oils is not that great. But I personally seem to have to watch that ratio closely to stay on top of other issues.Walnut oil is a great oil to test for this purpose as it is quite high in O3 and it has a fair amount of oleic acids in it and it has palmitic which is the precursor to palmitoleic which is particularly good for our skin. I've also had great results using red palm oil in my OP. It's high in carotenoids and tocotrienols, vitamins A and E precursors. I got this one: Palm red, butter, 2 lbs. Essential Oil there's also: Swanson Health Products - Natural Red Palm Oil I'm also currently using macadamia nut oil for it's palmitoleic acid content. I found that when I had Sea Buckthorn Oil in a bottle and I OPed it for a while before swallowing, it gave me good, fast results but it's so expensive I looked for alternatives. My alternative is macadamia mixed with red palm. Almond Oil can also be used for OP and it's quite high in vitamin E. Grapeseed Oil is high in A, you could maybe mix the 2. Double check on the grapeseed oil but I know It's NOT the same as rapeseed oil which is Canola basically and that's not recommended for OP. so there's my $.02. I use nutritiondata.com to look at fatty acid break down of various oil, not ALL of them are in there. It helps to have one tab open to the oil you're researching and the next tab in your browser window open to the Fats & Fatty Acids info page from their site... - bd |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
As long as we are talking about additions to our oil, I should have mentioned to Nefret that when I am fighting a cold, I add a few drops of oregano oil to my regular pulling oil for its antiviral and antibacterial properties. I have also successfully used oregano oil (added to my pulling oil) to fight a tooth ache. In this case, I pulled about once an hour for a day and a half. If anyone tries this to combat a tooth ache, and if you don't see success in a few days, go to a dentist, as a prolonged abcess can become dangerous to your health.
"Oregano oil products have been used as an anti-viral, anti-fungal, (yeast and candida problems), anti-microbial, and an anti-tissue agent, meaning it halts coughs and eases spasticity of the lung tubules." Wild Oregano Oil kebod |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Hold the phone! (whatever that means) I'm wrong about the grapeseed oil. I got the idea it was high in vitamin A but the nutritiondata.com site doesn't support that. if anyone else knows more info, please post. Go to the red palm oil/butter or sea buckthorn oil if you want to see if you get results from sublingual carotenoids and tocotrienols. I think the delivery method matters - I hope to see substantiation of this somewhere soon besides the large anecdotal body.
Hear hear on the oregano oil. don't overuse it tho,it's an antibiotic amongst other things and we all know that overuse of antibiotic leads to resistant bacteria! - bd |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
I started oil pulling 5 days ago with sesame seed oil. I haven't gotten any result yet but I am going to continue for 25 more days. I read that if you spit out the oil after the 20 minutes and the oil is still yellow that means you didn't do it long enough, but it seems like no matter how long I swish the oil always comes out yellow.
What am I doing wrong? HELP! I really want my kp to improve! Thanks! |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Don't worry about the color of the oil. You aren't doing anything wrong. Make sure that your sesame oil is light colored and untoasted. 20 minutes is long enough.
Also, drink lots of water, do daily moderate exercise, eat a very healthy diet with lots of veggies, and take an omega 3 supplement, if you don't eat foods high in omega 3 (fatty fish, like sardines and salmon, walnuts, and freshly ground flaxseeds). All of this will work together for greater health and you may see other health benefits from oil pulling. Please keep in touch. kebod |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Thank you! Thats such a relief that I am doing it right! My sesame seed oil is un-toasted. I eat pretty healthy and exercise every day so hopefully I will get some results. Thanks again!

Re: Oil pulling treatment
I just got my coconut oil that I ordered in the mail, it's a pain keeping it liquified with all the airconditioning here lol.
However, I have been taking cod liver oil and vitamins for the past two days and my skin is feeling pretty smooth. Hopefully in combination with the OPing my skin will start to clear. Is coconut oil okay, or should I switch to the sesame? |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
SP,
Try pulling with coconut oil, since you already have it. Maybe your a.c. is set too low. ![]() kebod |
