This is getting really annoying - I look at my legs and think my KP looks better, but then I look at it again a few minutes later and it looks bad.

Re: Oil pulling treatment
I read that organic coconut oil is supposed to be the best.

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Laura,
Organic coconut oil is certainly very good, but other oils are excellent as well, like sunflower, untoasted sesame and untoasted walnut. Some oils will help one person, but not another. Experimentation is the best thing -- use a different oil every month to see if there is a difference. It is a good idea to change oils once a month, anyway. The best oils will always be organic, and cold-pressed or expeller-pressed. If it is impossible to buy these oils, even grocery store type sunflower oil will work, though it will have chemical residues in it from being mechanically processed, as well as less nutrients, due to the high heat used in processing. I think coconut oil is the best for teeth whitening, and I have also noticed less gray hair when I use it. (Whoops, did I give away my age? ) Coconut oil is even used for scalp massage to reduce gray hair -- though I have never tried this.kebod |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Hi everyone!
I was op with cold pressed sesame oil for about 20 days, I noticed my face was glowing and my lower back and stomach felt so soft but the KP was still there...I did notice one or two clear patches on my upper leg. While I was op, I did not use a moisturiser at all as I do not moisturise daily, if I had begun moisturising every day as well op, I thought I might not know what is working. I did begin excercising and sitting in the sauna for 20 minutes a day. On the back of my upper left arm I began itching and developed a small white patch of scaly skin...if I ignore it, it is fine and remains the size it is, but if I itch it gets bigger and whiter and it looks like dry skin crumbling off...what could this be? it is just that one small patch...just curiuos to know what may have caused it? The sauna or op??? Can anyone help? I've never had exema or any skin rash before except for KP on back, arms and legs which to be honest is harmless, does not itch or irritate, the only only irritation of it is the appearance of it which gets me down. Hope somecan answer my questions...Thank u |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
G.G.,
I think someone needs to do OP for at least 30 days to see if it will help with KP, but I don't blame you for stopping if you thought it was causing the itchy patch. If you try OP again, you may want to use a different oil. Some of us do better with one kind of oil, instead of another. I can't say for sure if OP caused this patch or not. There are so many variable, and we don't even know what causes KP. kebod |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Quote:
see, the OP is likely getting lots of oleic acids into your system. oleic acid is essential for cells to easily transport wastes out of their membranes - hence the interpretation that OP helps you "remove toxins." and also, palmitoleic acid and oleic acids by themselves topically induced scaly skin in this dermatological study: Journal of Investigative Dermatology - Unsaturated Fatty Acids Induce Calcium Influx into Keratinocytes and Cause Abnormal Differentiation of Epidermis That same article, while technical, also says, "Topical application of unsaturated fatty acids drastically increased transepidermal water loss." so when used on the skin, they can dry you out - but I suspect that depends on a person's skin type and the climate they're in somewhat also. So, fwiw, I'm thinking you are just shedding skin cells like you're supposed to and maybe need to help them out a bit and/or even moisturize. maybe... - bd |

BD,
Your explanations are so right on! I'm so glad you are here to help with answers when I don't have the medical, nutritional or scientific explanation. Thank you for your contributions on this and our other threads. kebod |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Do my eyes decieve me?!
Day 12, 13 & 14 Oil pulled with one tablespoon of walnut oil for twenty minutes. My KP seems smoother, but redness is still there. Day 15 Oil pulled with one tablespoon of walnut oil for twenty minutes. My KP actually does look a lot better most of the time! Still quite a bit of redness there though. |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
It's actually surprisingly hard to capture what my KP really looks like on camera. Apologies for the hair, I don't shave past my knees because I don't want to aggravate the KP.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So that's what it looks like after about fifteen days of OP. I don't have any 'before pictures' - I accidentally did a delete all on my camera >.< edit; I've just realised something. I'm on my period today and I have NO CRAMPS. It's a little heavier than normal but no pain! Yay! Last time the cramps were agony. |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
SMW,
Fifteen days may not be long enough to see KP results, but I hope you keep the OP up for at least 30 days. Many women report no cramps with OP. I know Bunny Day has explained this for us before -- OP has a positive effect on hormones. kebod |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
I am confused. When I look at it carefully, it is similar to what I had last summer on the corner of my left eye. It went away with vaseline. |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Hyun sun,
It is a good idea to try a different oil. Also, you need to be eating very healthy -- no junk food, soft drinks, almost no sugar. Omega 3 food sources, like cold-water fish (salmon, sardines), walnut or ground flaxseeds help, or an omega supplement. Drink plenty of water and get some exercise every day. Good luck, and let us know if OP helps. Gangsta Gurl, You may want to ask your question on another thread if no one answers here. kebod |
