Re: Oil pulling treatment
Quote:
Something like this should be cheaper and last longer: ORGANIC Virgin Coconut Oil. 3 x 460g. Coconoil Organic on eBay, also, Other Health Beauty, Health Beauty (end time 11-Jun-08 18:29:57 BST) Also OT from prices, but my skin has recently flared up again, i think it my be due to my pores clogging...but i stopped using coconut oil about a week ago to rub into the skin after a shower because i started getting a rash (which still has not gone) and i am now just oil pulling with cocnut oil, is it normal for KP to flare up whilst doing this? |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Hi Kebod!
I really would like to thank you for sharing your experience and offering a solution for kp'ers. I started oil pulling about a week ago, and everytime after I do it, I gargle with salt water quite extensively, then drink a glass of water. (I fear that I am gargling the salt water more than I should be.) What do you do after you pull? Also, for how long do you do it? Thanks:) -Molly |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Hi Molly,
Good to hear from you. After I oil pull, I brush my teeth with baking soda (I don't use toothpaste anymore), and then rinse and gargle with warm salt water. Then I drink a glass of water -- sometimes a cup of herb tea instead -- and eat breakfast about an hour later. There is no reason to wait an hour to eat. It is just what I do. I oil pull for 20 minutes. I hope you give OP at least a month to see if it helps you. Someone posted recently that they didn't see improvement until after 2 months. What type of oil are you using? Please keep in touch with any questions or comments. |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
SS29 - sensations in my mouth definitely changed after I started OPing. After a couple of days, I no longer needed the Sensodyne toothpaste for sensitive teeth I had used for years. However, in some ways my mouth is more sensitive, but not in a bad way. does that make any sense? I probably brush my teeth more than I used to which is good cause I mostly used to only brush at night. so my gums are not painful and I would say they are healthier overall ut they are more...um... alive, shall we say? make sure you're not brushing too hard and that you're using a very soft toothbrush. you can cause gum problems by brushing too hard. - bd

Re: Oil pulling treatment
SS29,
Sorry I didn't see your question earlier -- yes, it is normal to have flare-ups when you begin OP. It doesn't last long and is actually a good sign that your body is undergoing cleansing. The skin is trying to eliminate "junk". It will pass and you will feel better for it. Let us know how it goes. kebod |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Hi Kebod!
Thanks for answering my question! I've been using coconut oil from my local organic grocers. I pull at night, sometimes on an empty stomache, sometimes not. Do you think that is affecting my kp and its results? Thanks again! -Molly |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Molly,
It is recommended to pull on an empty stomach, because it can affect digestion, but I have read of others who don't always wait 3 hours after eating to pull, and they don't seem to have any ill effects. I only pull first thing in the morning (when my stomach is empty), so I can't speak from experience. My guess is that it will still help you. kebod |

Hey =]
I'm Kristina, I'm thirteen and I'm new here. I've been lurking here for about a week since I discovered what I have on my thighs and upper arms is keratosis pilaris. It's pretty mild but it still makes me feel subconscious and makes me avoid going swimming etc. I've got a bit of eczema too: a couple of small patches on my legs and some behind my ear. So I've been reading through this thread and it really must work if so many people are seeing changes. Next time I go to Tesco I'm going to pick up some cold-pressed sesame oil and start with the oil pulling. My questions are; [] Would my age make a difference in effects? [] Can I do other stuff while oil pulling? i.e. computer, book, magazine, whatever. Thanks a lot =] |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Hi Kristina,
My 13 year old son OPs every morning. He is usually on the computer while he does it, but then again he is on the computer all the time, lol. You can do most things while OPing, except talk of course. I find it hard to concentrate on doind my OPing well if I do something that requires too much concentration. I usually catch up on emails, put away dishes from washing up, start preparing breakfast, etc. Hope this helps. Make sure you get the UNtoasted sesame oil. |

Thanks sigzephyr =]
Oh yeah, and in my previous post, I don't know why I typed subconscious. I meant self conscious. Just ignore it. |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Wow! I'm glad i joined this website. This would never have been something i would have found out on my own.
After 8 years of suffering from KP and not even knowing what it was, I have even been asked to resign from a job because of my extreme KP condition. If only I had known that it was as simple as swooshing coconut oil 20-30 min. I would have done it years ago. In fact. I'm going to the store to buy some coconut oil right now!!!!! Thanks a bunch Germanbeauty |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Hello everyone, I am new here. I am 24 years of age. I cannot remember when my KP first occurred but I do not remember having KP free arm and legs either. I have been oil pulling since Tuesday 11th June, so it was my third day today. I swish cold pressed unrefined sesame oil for 20 minutes on an empty stomach. I then rinse and gargle with warm sea salt water, squeeze half a lemon in warm water, I drink that and then a glass of water thereafter. I have a few questions for Kebod or anyone else who has had success with oil pulling with their KP: I am swishing for 20 minutes but when I get to 10-15 minutes, my mouth (jaws, cheeks) begin hurting. This slows my swishing as I am afraid to swallow the oil down. I fear it may not be working while the swishing slows down. However, when I spit the oil out after 20 minutes, it is white and water like. Is there a specific technique of swishing, i.e. fast or slow? Am I doing it right and should it have the same affect on the KP? Also, I brush my teeth before I oil pull, not after. Is it better to brush after I oil pull to? Why is it that you now use baking soda as opposed to toothpaste Kebod? I have decided to attend the gym for regular exercise along with this and would like to try something topically. Has anyone heard of bioskinregeneration.com/benefits/keratosispilaris? I want to try this as it does not clogg pores and is made from natural products. I do not want to use anything which may clogg pores as the oil pulling may not work if I have clogged pores from using a moisturiser. |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
German Beauty,
You were really fired from a job because of KP!!! Isn't that a form of discrimination? I hope so much that oil pulling helps, but be aware that it doesn't work for everybody. I think it is worth trying because it has no side effects and is a simple and inexpensive method. It can also help with so many other health issues. Please stay in touch and let us know if it diminishes your KP. kebod |
