Re: Oil pulling treatment
Khrissy,
KPRF is redness and rough bumpiness on the face. Oil pulling has helped some, myself included, but doesn't help everybody, which seems to be the case with almost every remedy that has been tried on this forum. OP has made my skin softer all over and made a dramatic improvement on diminishing my KP. I don't know why it doesn't work for everyone. kebod |

Quote:
For you and others whose diets are higher in O3s - and maybe your diet is more anti-inflammatory than mine overall - the coconut oil's palmitic, various oleics and lauric I'm guessing are what's so good for the skin. Yes, various EFAs as you are indicating. I would put money on those in a bet. Especially palmitic, which our bodies are supposed turn into palmitoleic, a major component of skin, yes? and palmitoleic's one of the major fatty acids in sea buckthorn oil also. I suppose I also keep throwing my voice into this thread just in case another like me tries OP. I would rather they get the benefits of OP if possible and they may need to do so with anti-inflammatories in mind also, especially at first. I've been OPing for over a year and I have only just dared to play with some other oils, really. - bd |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
I started OPing 3 days ago and something must be happening because my KP has gotten worse I have bumps where I didn't have them before like my inner thighs, my chest and more worryingly my face, I always used to get the occasional spot but right now my face has about 20 little bumps that are not spots, luckily my skin is quite tanned looking so you can't see them unless your close up, otherwise I think I'd be hiding away until it's over lol. My skin does feel softer but that may be because I've started using sugar scrubs and baby oil / lotion(or cocoa butter) on my skin after showering but it never used to be this soft/silky after doing that before.

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Hi Kebod,
Can you please tell me where and which Coconut Oil you bought in Mexico? I live in Mexico City and have only found Tropics Best Extra Virgin Coconut Oil in the store Green Corner, which is hard, and not liquid. This is great for applying topically but not to pull. Thanks! |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Aza,
I had a lot of very tiny bumps on my forehead for about a month after starting OP. They suddenly stopped, not to reoccur. I guess it was a cleansing process. I hope you stay with OP at least 30 days to see if it helps. Anthro, Tropics Best is a good coconut oil to use. It is solid because it is below 74 degrees F., Above that temperature, coconut oil becomes liquid. You can melt it over very low heat (don't get it hot) or melt it in your mouth. Please let us know if you try oil pulling. kebod |

Thanks Kebod
I had tried oil pulling with Sesame Oil from the States with no luck (don't think I was committed enough and then the 2 bottles ran out!). I will try oil pulling with the Coconut Oil instead as I can buy it here easily, and see if I can do it for 30 mins each morning. I will try with a spoonful of the solidified oil in my mouth. Re: Oil pulling treatment
Anthro,
Twenty minutes per session is enough time, unless you are really into a longer pull. If the solid oil seems too strange in your mouth, put a little bit in a dish and put that in a pan of hot water. It will melt quickly. Also, adding an omega 3 supplement (or eating tinned sardines, salmon, walnuts and/or ground flaxseeds), getting plenty of water, moderate daily exercise and a very healthy diet will all support oil pulling. Flaxseeds are easy to find in bulk in supermarkets and in health food stores in Mexico. I use a coffee grinder to grind them fresh each morning, as the oils in the seeds become rancid so easily. Tinned sardines are also common here. Between the two, I don't need an omega oil supplement. Please keep in touch. kebod |

Thanks Kebod,
I will try that starting tomorrow, and will definitely keep the thread up to date with how it turns out, and if I have any luck. Cheers, Georgia |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Hi Kebod,
I've had kp for years..and always wanted to find a cure for it so it'll be gone for gd, I read your oil pulling method, and I'm pretty interested in trying it out, but I have a few questions. After how long since you've tried op did you start seeing an improvement to ur kp? and did you say it was almost gone after 3 wks? so how long did it take for you until it completely disappeared? and how long has it been since they disappeared for you. Also, do we have to keep up with oil pulling after our kp has disappeared? and we take one tablespoon of (sesame oil) for abt 20 minutes a day and then hopefully we will see results in our kp? do we just go to a normal grocery store and supermarket and get a bottle of sesame oil? or does it have to be some sort of special type of sesame oil? Sorry for asking so many questions but I really want to be clear on this and I really want to get rid of my kp. Thanks. =) |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Hello Mimi,
After doing OP for 3 weeks, I saw that my KP had diminished by 80-90%. It never completely disappeared. I still have the remaining 10-20% of bumps, though that can almost go away sometimes, but it always comes back a little. This was almost two years ago. Yes, if OP diminishes your KP, you have to keep on doing it. If you stop, the KP will come back. One tablespoon is recommended, but I use 2 teaspoons (3 teaspoons to 1 tablespoon). I'm sorry to say that I don't know if you will see results or not. Whatever OP does, it helps some with their KP and for others, it doesn't do anything. You will have to try it, for at least 30 days, to see if it helps you. The best type of oil is organic, expeller pressed (or cold-pressed). This type is sold at health food and natural food stores. If you can't find this type of oil, grocery store oil will work. Be sure not to use toasted sesame oil. It is dark and has a strong flavor. The toasting has removed a lot of nutrients. Look for light-colored, untoasted sesame oil. Sunflower oil and coconut oil are also good for starting OP. I really hope OP can help you. At the least, you will probably have whiter teeth and a healthier mouth, as oral bacteria is removed by the oil. This is bacteria that would pass into the rest of your body if not removed, so you are helping your over-all health by oil pulling. Please keep in touch if you have more questions. Let us know if OP makes a positive difference. kebod |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
I did read that when you oil pull, the oil goes from yellow to clear - if it is still yellow you haven't been pulling it long enough? I hope i read it right... I haven't started trying this yet, but i am very impressed with all the positive feedback in here...!

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Hello, everyone. I'm Akua001, and I am kebod's son. I wanted to quickly reply to Azaezl's posting, as well as let everyone know of my own oil pulling expereince. Aza, everytime I have started (or re-started) oil-pulling I have always had a slight outbreak of acne or "bumps", just as you describe. It usually starts a few days after I begin oil pulling and lasts for maybe a week. I attribute this to my body getting rid of the pollutants as the oil pulling starts to work. I've had KP for almost 20 years and mine decreased by about 90%. My wife use to describe my skin as "scaly" but now is amazed at how smooth it has become. The biggest benefit though, by far, is that my chronic sinusitus and allergies have disappeard - entirely. I have seen every doctor and tried every medication around to try and rid myself of my overwhelming allergies. I would have continuos allergy attacks throughout the day, wave after wave. I am not kidding when I say that I could have 500-1000 allergy attacks per year. About 3 months after starting oil pulling my allergies disappered. For me it has been life altering. As for my method, I alternate between sesame (skin) and coconut oil (sinuses). I do it first thing in the morning as I get ready for work. I seem to recall someone saying that they had a hard time with gagging when they first began. I did as well, but that has passed as I became accustomed to the process. Good luck to everyone!

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Well it's been a week and the bumps on my face are not as bad, I didn't get any more after the initial breakout and the ones I did get seem to be going. I don't know if that's down to the oil pulling alone or because I'm using a sugar scrub 3 times a week & baking soda every day as well as cocoa butter. I've also been taking cod liver oil capsules(with added vitamins) so that may be helping as well. One thing I thought I would ask about is, do you have to pull for 20 mins? I've tried but my face hurts after swishing it around for 10 minutes and the pain is unbearable by 15 and I have to stop.

Re: Oil pulling treatment
I am going to start this tomorrow. I will give anything a try. I think I will do it at the same time that I do my low impact aerobics in the a.m., so time will pass and I won't be put off by the monotony of constant swishing.
I only hope that I don't have a facial break out as mentioned by some. I had terrible acne, pimples, & scarring when I was 15/16 and hope not to return to that very unconfident time ![]() I do a lot of natural skin care now so, maybe some of that will combat it. ![]() Anyway, I will let you all know if I see some results in a month or two. Thank you so much for sharing this information. |
