Sig,

That's great how OP is helping your husband. OP can help with one's emotional state, as I have read it can ease depression. I'm glad it is helping him in this area for competition.

I sent you a private message (pm) regarding your subscription.

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

I may change oils, i did use the coconut for a few days but due to its price here and the amount that i went through in only a few days i had to ditch that plan and have been using it on my skin. Since then i have been using the sunflower oil which is cooking grade so im thinking of changing that as ive found some cold pressed unrefined organic sunflower oil. The upper arms are much smoother and are no longer bumpy but the red dots still remain they have just been smothed into my skin so to speak, inverted sort of. Im going to keep going with the cooking grade one for another week and then change to the other oil next week, ill continue to take pics every few weeks until it hopefully deminishes. There is alot of improvement but its the redness that just wont go, sometimes of the day it looks like my skin is fine but then other times of the day it looks alot worse but still its an improvement and i shall persevere.

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

Thanks for the update, Schutz. There have been many reports here that say that OP helps with the bumps, but not so much with the redness. I have found my arms much smoother by rubbing a coconut oil-based lotion into my upper arms. That, plus getting about 10 minutes of sunning every other day, is helping my remaining bumps. I have very little redness, and that is less noticeable if my arms are tanned.

Please keep us posted as to what you think of the different oils you use and any improvement.

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

I would like to get some sun but being in the UK means sun is very rare i considered going to a tanning bed but ill leave that as a last resort. The coconut oil being rubbed on my skin has helped but the redness is a real pain, im thinking of using aloe vera/tea tree oils on my skin, and to get a exfoliating glove with some sea buckthorn aswell as keeping up my OP. I wish i could afford glycolic acid but i dont want to pay the prices they want, £5 for 30ml! im going to try other techniques soon, im happy with the difference at the moment but ive barely been going 2 weeks so i cant expect a miracle and its definitely improving but the weather here makes my skin quite bad and red.

Well,Thanks kebod. I'm not sure it's THAT insightful. I've thought about it a lot because on one hand we usually know our bodies best and that is likely for nykphelps, of course. Yet it nags at me that in some cases the process, regardless of whether someone tries OP or chemical dermabrasion or whatever, could take much longer than the "6 weeks" idea thrown out most of the time. as an example, I did not realize how much hair I had been missing until it gradually was coming out again last fall and winter. And Like I said, it would be really tough to stick with OP when one is not getting other obvious benefits.
There are probably at least some other cases of KP like mine where there's going to be a long term process of hair regrowth (reinitiated because of reduced KP maybe?) and shedding that overall helps clear out the remaining keratin plugs too. A leg hair, as I found out, can have a life cycle of 2 to 6 months... don't you suppose arm and other body hair is similar? So it would require pretty serious self-skin-analysis (or a derms) to say whether the whole process could take that long especially from an internal/dietary change which, for those who haven't seen it, can result in changes in genetic expression.
NOVA | scienceNOW | Epigenetics | PBS
"Our lifestyles and environment can change the way our genes are expressed, leading even identical twins to become distinct as they age."
So, while I don't wish to anger anyone by saying "2 months isn't long enough," I wish to continue to point out that there NO WAY 2 months would have been long enough for me and there may be others like me. I think even if I had done a complete body peel that after 2 months I'd at least still be healing from that... ooo! and I'm kinda wimpy and I wouldn't do that. - bd
p.s. The omega 3 supplements have a big effect for me also and I sort of lump it in with OP since it's all oil and I think of OP as supplementing sublingually (and smothering bacteria in the mouth) more than extracting anything. It is likely possible that many in the U.S. need more than just the fatty acids from nut oils, which tend to be omega-6s but also need more omega 3s - way more. the therapeutic dose is 3,ooo mg (3g) daily.

I started oil pulling on Aug. 1 of 2006, hoping for better over-all health. After googling "oil pulling" and learning how it is done, I started using coconut oil and gently swishing 2 teaspoons through my mouth each morning on an empty stomach. Instantly, I noticed whiter teeth and a pinker tongue. The process is thought to remove toxins from the body, and I was curious as to what other health improvements I would notice. On day 21 of oil pulling, I realized my skin was 90-95% clear of all the little bumps. Then I remembered that for two days before, my upper arms had felt more dry and crusty than usual, but I didn't think anything of it at the time, since that skin was never smooth anyway. I now think this was the KP condition drying up and sloughing off.

I took a trip to visit my sister for 3 weeks, and cut back my oil pulling to 10 min. each morning so we could start chatting as soon as we got up. The bumps started to come back. I resumed the 20 min. regimen, and they again diminished. For me, this was conclusive evidence that it was the oil pulling responsible for the clearer skin.

I now do two 20-30 min. back-to-back sessions each morning to clear up the remaining 5-10%, and it is clearing. My skin is very smooth.

Google "oil pulling" for more information. I hope some of you try this.

hello kebod..

i'm a brand-new member, in my early 20s, and just 'officially diagnosed' with KP (though i suspect i've had it since forever)..

so i am really interested in this natural remedy of yours, and quite keen on trying, so i went to google on it.. turns out that at this site < Oil Pulling, Wonderful Therapy >, this doctor suggests that only sesame/sunflower oil might be effective for this treatment.

so i was wondering, how did you come to use coconut oil, and (how) is it better than sesame/sunflower?

thank you for your experienced advice, and pardon my ignorance please!
i've only just begun reading up on KP, as i've never even heard about this till the doc told me today..

thanks alot!! =)

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

Hi Uso,

Originally, when this treatment started in India, sesame and sunflower oil were recommended because they were common oils there. Now that we have such a large selection of oils to use, many pullers have tried different oils and can recommend them. I read about using coconut oil and other oils on the Cure Zone Oil Pulling site Oil Pulling & Oil Swishing Support Forum: Page 96 of 96 . I don't know if it is better, but I seem to have much softer skin when I use coconut oil. Right now I am using sesame oil, because it is good to change your oil about one a month (sounds like changing the oil in a car ) I also use avocado oil, untoasted walnut oil, and olive oil (only when I don't have anything else to use because it has a heavy texture and doesn't get my teeth as white).

Please keep in touch and let us know if oil pulling helps you.

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

Well I have been OPing for a month or so now so I plan to switch from Coconut to Sesame oil. Any suggested brands, qualities or colors of labels I should be on the lookout for?

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

I will read through all the pages when I have time but I'm going to start oil pulling tomorrow and I'm going to get the things today. I want to know if you use Extra Virgin Coconut oil for OPing or just Coconut oil?

I will be using EVCO for applying onto my KP, I will be using both or I will try with Sesame oil if anything.

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

EVCO is the right one to use. Sesame Oil is great too, just make sure you aren't using the toasted sesame oil. It has a very strong flavour and is used in Asian cooking.

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

Badarms,

The best place to look for good quality oil for pulling is in a health food store or natural food store. If you are in the US, look for Spectrum or Haines brand of oils.

Sweet,

There seems to be no industry standard for labeling "extra virgin" coconut oil. If you buy an organic oil that does not say extra virgin, it is still a good oil. I have read that there is no difference between extra virgin and virgin. Here is a web page to read about coconut oil for more information:

What is Virgin Coconut Oil?

If you order online, Mountain Rose has the best prices and a very good flavor.

Sig,

What oil are you using now and how are you doing with it?

Kebod, I am still using Coconut, Sesame and Sunflower. I am still oping 2-3 times a day so I use all of the oils.
My son and DH are Oil pulling too.
AS I said my KP responding very well. MY son's has improved, and is getting even better now he is using EFT as well as the OP. He is using a Urea cream as well, so we are truly trying a multi pronged attack. I think he is happy to know he is taking an active role in trying to solve his own skin issues. That is empowering for a young teenager.
