Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

Oleander,

In India, where oil pulling began, they say to use refined. American (Western) oil pullers think that unrefined is best because it has more nutrients in it. Most likely, if your oil doesn't say Unrefined, it is Refined. Other words to look for on the label are Organic, Cold-Pressed or Expeller-Pressed. These oils are available at natural food stores and health food stores. If they don't carry them, ask the store to order them. If you can't get oils with these descriptions at all, refined oil from a regular grocery store is better than not doing oil pulling at all. Avoid toasted seseame seed oil, corn oil, peanut oil and canola oil.

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

Kristen,

It is hard to say how long it will take for your skin to get back to where it was, because we are all different. I hope you have started OP again, and are starting to see results.

The coconut oil you bought is good to use for OP and on your skin. Did you read my recipe at the beginning of this thread for body/face lotion. It is easy to make and is absorbed very well. If you put pure coconut oil on your skin, do it after a shower when your skin is damp and use as little as you can.

You absolutely got the right oil. Hain is a good brand, as well as Spectrum. I particularly like the flavor of sesame oil (though coconut remains my favorite, changes are nice.) Please keep in touch and let us know if OP helps.

I haven't read your recipe for face/body lotion. I looked for it, but couldn't find it. Do you know what page it's on? Thanks!

Kristen,

The lotion recipe is on the thread "Natural Health", post # 2. Here is the link:
Natural Health
I hope you make it. If you do, let me know what you think of it. I love it! It is wonderful to know that when I use it after a shower, no chemicals are going on my skin to be absorbed later. I even use it when my hair feels dry, rubbing a dot into my palms, and then running my hands through my hair. I literally use it from my toes up to my hair.

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

Kebod,

I just started my OP for the first time this morning with the Sunflower Oil I bought from the regular grocerie store. I have a feeling sometime soon I should just go to an organic market and get the more high-end stuff just to make sure its worth doing this...

I noticed this thread was started a couple years ago, so Kebod do you STILL practice OP? Or do you not have to do it much anymore? I'd be interested in knowing if this works in the long run without having to continue doing it.

Also, is it bad to OP at night as opposed to the morning? I feel like I will never find the time to OP in the morning unless I do so while Im showering.

THanks!

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

Hey, I've been oil pulling for a week now. O: I started out with olive oil, then got some coconut oil. Sometimes I do both. My kp is already getting better, although it's just a little bit better right now. I can't wait to see more results. (: Thanks for all your help!

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

Oleander,

I could never not oil pull. It remains an important part of my health care. I have had many benfits from it -- the end of arthritic joints, healthier gums, better sleep, the end of seasonal allergies...I could go on. You need to continue OP for the long run if you want to continue its benfits. I cut back to 10 minutes a day shortly after I first started OP, and the KP started to come back. I learned my lesson and went back to 20 minute pulling sessions. Now, I pull 2 times each morning, back to back. It's OK to OP in the evening. For some, it keeps them awake longer, so you'll just have to try it to see if it keeps you up. Perhaps you could do it when you come home from work and while you are preparing dinner. Then it isn't right before bed.

Sjak,

I think a week may be too short a time to see results, except for whiter teeth and fresher breath. Give OP 30 days to see what it does for you. And you may want to change oil after 3 weeks if you don't see any results. You are welcome. I'm happy to answer questions if it turns someone else on to oil pulling!

Asink,

Olive oil is a very healthy oil to use, though for some it tastes too strong. Right now, I am using coconut oil and sesame oil. I also use avocado oil sometimes. I hope you stay with OP at least 30 days to see if it can help you. You are welcome

Everybody, keep on pulling and posting!

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

Thanks, kebod, for all the advice you give.
I have been OPing for about 6 weeks now and still continue to see improvements. I can't believe how smooth and soft my elbows are. They used to be lumpy and dry. There is no sign of my KP.
My husband and son are OPing too. My husband suffers terribly from headaches, but has seen no change so far. My son has been doing it for a few weeks and his KP is lessening.
He has braces on his teeth so we hope it is ok. So far, so good.
I love OPing and I can't see myself ever not doing it. I usually do it 2-3 times a day.

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

I just wanted to say thank you for sharing this very helpful information. I recently discovered that I have KP. I began to notice it a few years ago, but I thought it was a result of something I had done, like shaving improperly. I assumed it was my fault. When I found out what it was I was very distraught and upset, especially since I have read there is no cure. I happened to find this forum by chance via a search engine and became really hopeful. I am happy to report that I have been oil pulling for six days now, and have seen quite an improvement in my skin. Many of the bumps and redness are gone. I pray that in time, they will disappear completely. I have been using Safflower oil, for the allotted twenty minutes. I also have diabetes, among other things. I hope oil pulling will help that too. Again, I thank you.

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

Hi, everyone:

I will look forward to hopefully learning more by conversing here and getting to know some of you. I am Catherine.

I have tried to search and look back at this entire blog, but it is so huge!! I have gleaned a lot of information here and other places, but I have a couple of questions.

I tried OP for the first time this morning. I used safflower oil because I had it on hand. It didn't taste bad at all and it was light.
I was thrilled to see how much whiter my teeth are and I could feel good things happening in my mouth.

After an hour, my head started throbbing so hard that I thought I was going to DIE!! I'm actually not being a drama Queen. I have never felt that much pain in my head. If I didn't know for sure it was caused by OP, I would have gone to the ER because I would have assumed something was really wrong.

I had to sleep to get away from it. I took medicine and went to bed. That was about 16 hours ago and my head still hurts a bit, but it's bearable. I knew I was going to feel sick, but I don't know if I can handle that too many more times.

Has anyone experienced that? I know everyone is different, but how long did it last? Any ideas? I believe OP would help me in the long run, but I have to function in the mean time. I can't have that kind of searing pain and function at all.

I know OP helps KP, but does anyone have first hand experience of it helping TMJ? I know this isn't a TMJ board, but I am curious.

Thanks for any feedback.
