My search is over!
I have edited this post as of May 2007 to maximize its usefulness and encourage people to visit my site and develop their plan to treat this disease. After suffering from it for more than fifteen years, I decided to get serious about it and find an effective treatment. After much trial and error, I found a combination of relatively simple and affordable methods that resulted in near complete elimination of all signs of Keratosis Pilaris:
I used dermabrasion crystals to remove the majority of bumps, followed by Glycolic Acid in high potency to smooth the rest of them, retexturize the skin, and clear out the follicles. This removal of dead skin that clogs them caused the clearing of the red dots. This regimen is highly successful and accessible to everyone, as there is a source for dermabrasion crystals: Microdermabrasion Crystals, Microdermabrasion machine If there are any questions you feel it does not cover, please feel free to email me. I respond to most email. The only exceptions being if your email is difficult to read/understand, or if the questions being asked are covered entirely on the site. It may take me a few days to respond, but I try to reply as quickly as I can. Thanks to everyone who has been a positive force in this journey. Many people have contributed in many ways that are not as tangible as photos or direct data. Most importantly, it is YOU, the members of the forum, who provided everything I needed to formulate this treatment. By reading your experiences and observing your behavior, I was made able to unlock KP, the damage it causes, and the way to treat it. Good luck to everyone. I know that if you follow the right treatment, the huge majority of you can have success and clear your skin. Have faith in yourselves. Gather the info. Don't just jump on a new thing without learning how to use it. This is a potent treatment. If used correctly and by following directions, it is painless and can effectively treat your KP. If abused or used incorrectly because the user hasn't read up and learned how to do it properly, it can cause pain and irritation, and will give you poor or no results. Best wishes to all. I look forward to meeting those of you through email who want to. Please read the site, think it over. Understand KP. THEN formulate your plan, and get the right products. I wonder why no one replied to this? Maybe because an acid based lotion isn't a solution for everybody?

Wow, 20% sounds really strong. It'll have to be taken with care, especially for skin that's not previously exposed to AHA.

I'm impressed with your dedication to the lotion; I know I would have stopped with the side-effects you describe.
I want to know about redness. Did you look sunburned while you were using this lotion? At what point did it stop burning your skin? You have mentioned that the red dots are disappearing, what about redness in general? Thanks for taking the time to post your success! |

I hope this works
Torquoise,
I just purchased the AHA 15 lotion for my 11 yr old daughter. She was diagnosed about 5 years ago and I was told that all that could be done was to keep putting lotion on her skin. I am glad I found this website. I will try this and post the results. How long do you think one bottle will last, so I will know when to order some more? Mandeesmom |

It is not that "I dont give a damn" about your post and I am so glad that it worked for you. I tried AHA 15 and had a very bad reaction. My skin got very burned and swollen and hurt for days. I think it was because I was out in the sun after applying it so I might try again in the winter, but right now I do not want to risk it and I just want to warn everyone not to be exposed to a lot of sunlight because I even used a 30 spf sunscreen and blistered.

New member needs help
Hi
I am a 38 yr old woman who just got diagnosed with KP. It is all over my legs, arms, and butt. I did not notice anything until my skin starting burning (funny though; nobody else ever talks about KP burning?) I would call my case severe. I just read Turquoise's success story. I am on prescription lactic acid 12% 2x a day. I use Cetaphil lotion in between and gently exfoliate with a wash cloth. Any advice will be great. |
