I picked up the 20% AHA and I must say that after a week of using it, the texture of my skin is definitely better. Nothing dramatic yet but it is definitely an improvement and the strength of the lotion isn't irritating me at all.
Thanks for the advice Turquiose and I promise not to stick my car keys in a light socket or bathe next to the toaster ![]() |

Turqoise, you are right in saying that you've given fair warning, and didn't encourage people to continue use with dangerous side effects. But it doesn't hurt for others to add their own warnings to yours. Forums are about sharing, and the more information we have the better our judgement can be. Please don't take the warnings personally, because the people on this forum just don't want to see others get hurt. Some of the posts here have been quite attacking of you, but it doesn't really do any good to attack back. You have done a nice thing by posting about your success, so don't let anyone ruin it for you.
It's a little harsh to call people's skepticism learned helplessness, but you are entitled to your own opinion. Many of the people here have spent money on countless amounts of creams or lotions that have worked for others, but with no success for themselves. I myself tried using the EV coconut oil, but after much dilligence I do not believe it is my cure (though i love how it smells). I am about to try the AHA 20% and I hope that my skin takes to it well. If it's too harsh for my skin I will probably try the 15%, but I'm on a very tight budget so I might have to wait to buy it if I end up wanting to try it. These are the only products I've ever tried to use specifically for my KP, so my search has not yet been as long as others'. I can imagine that it must be frustrating and disheartening to try many different things only to have all of them fail. Please guys, let's try to bite our tongues and not post while angry. Nobody benefits from it. It is quite reasonable to feel that there have not been enough warnings about a product, but blaming the original poster for not including such warnings is unfair. Each person is responsible for reading and interpreting the information given out on a public forum like this one, so let's all try to be as responsible as we can. |

I thought the whole point of this forum was to share ideas on how to make kp go away!! Thats exactly what Turquoise did!! No one is saying you have to go and by the AHA lotion. Turquoise is just describing what has worked for her. So, Thank you Turquoise for sharing your great results. If you had not posted on this forum, I may not have know about this lotion. I am going to purchase some of this lotion because I have had no problems using products with acid. Thanks again Turquoise, and please keep us updated!

thank you turquoise!
i've been perusing this forum for a while now and i finally
registered so i could say thank you for showing us what worked for you. i have seen results after 2 weeks and i look forward to the next few months ![]() as for people like charchar - i don't understand what this persons point was other than to be a troll and hear themselves talk. sounds like a lot of bull to me. it's just immaturity- so what they say doesn't matter. anyway, thank you again and take care and have fun ![]() |

To Turquoise
For what it is worth I think all your posts have been very clear and informative and probably out of everyone on this board you have been the one to take a systematic long term approach to trialling a treatment.
I am amazed that so many of us want 'instant' cures - human nature I guess and think that more of a cream must be better. When you are dealing with acids this is definately not the case and I am sure most people are aware what acids in any form do. I use retinoic acid (retina-A) and as the instructions say I am careful to use only a little as prescribed. If my skin gets sore or red I know I am using too much so I lay off - common sense really. So everyone don't throw the baby out with the bath water - try AHA's but use common sense! Thank you turquoise for your positive and informative contribution to this board. Please keep contributing here. Wishing you all the best. |

I've been using the DCL 20 lotion for less than a week and I can see and feel the difference already. It is the only thing I have ever tried that produced any results. Thank you very much for the tip, Turq !!!Joe

Hi. I have a few questions about AHA. Well, first matter is.. who knows what the difference is between AHA and BHA and which one is better to use? I've read a few articles on AHA, BHA and KP and most of them say that BHA works better because it exfoliates all of the keratin inside the pores and because it has bigger molecules than AHA, it works better. Also, I read that people with darker skin shouldn't use AHA since it may cause hyperpigmentation. How true is this? Has anyone have this happened to them? I'm of latin background and my skin is fairly dark and i certainly wouldnt like to mess up my skin more than it already is. And my last question is, if i start by using the 15% AHA how long should i wait until i move on to 20%? Thanks for everything and i'll be looking forward to hearing your answers!!!
oh, and sorry for asking so many questions.. |

Turquoise...VERY impressed and motivated with your results...immediately called my husband over to take a look!!!! Congratulations!
A little background for everyone: I have always, always, always had the "bumps" on the back of my arms, upper thighs, jaw line and my rear. They worsened during puberty and now, at 28, are the bane of my existence. The arms were/are always the most annoying since they were evident with any sleeveless or short sleeved shirt. As a child and teenager I was told that they were allergies, dermatitis, general irriatation, a genetic anomaly and anything else you could imagine. I finally went to two seperate Derms as an adult and one gave me AmLactin, topical antibiotics and told me to use Cetaphil soap and cream. The other gave me Retin-A, Lac Lotion and told me to use Cetaphil soap and cream. Minor improvements over all and the only thing I stuck with was the Cetaphil since I have such sensitive skin. I honestly thought I had tried most everything, including: tea trea oil, alcohol, tanning, supplements, etc, etc, etc. When I heard the higher concentrate AHA option I just wanted to kick myself. I have been using M.D. Forte face wash for 4 months now (gradually working up in concentration) and have no bumps on my jaw line or face...at all. I usually have at least 3 or 4 white bumps and the splotchy 'chicken skin' but all is gone aside from the very occasional white bump. My skin is drier overall so I am more careful about moisturizer. I take primrose oil, use Kiehl's Ultra Facial Moisturizer and for flaky areas I spot with Eminence Tomato Sun Cream (pricey but super). For body I use only Cetaphil because it is the most economical for the volume and it does the job well enough. My previous and current Med Spas use DCL and I have been happy with most of the products I have tried...I will definitely be working my way into the 20%. I promise to not let it cause me pain and/or rot my skin, I promise to wear sunscreen (as I always do), I will not chew barbed wire and I will not run with knives...just in case anyone is concerned with my common sense. But seriously, we are here to share our experiences and opinions...read it...take what you can...leave what you can't...contribute in a positive manner and leave the petty comments to the teenagers. |

Hi flowergirl
I'm dark skinned of latin background also. I started with the aha 20 and so far so good. I get a little tingle if it gets on an area where ther is no kp, but otherwise no prob. I've had kp all my life. When I was younger it was on the back of my arms and on my legs. People would ask me if I was cold because they thought I had goose bumps, lol. It disappeared from the back of my arms, I don't even know when, but I still have it on my thighs and butt. So it doesn't disappear with age as a lot of people think. I'm 66 y/o and I stll have it. Good luck all |

is it ok to jump to 20% without prior experience
hey guys, thanks for this great motivational thread and news,
I am a guy and have had KP on the back of my arms ever since I was a kid. I have not used any AHA so far, only I have used an exfoliator and some salicyic Acid 2%... I Was wondering if In your guys' opinion and Tuqoises if it would be ok to jump to the 20 AHA and dont move up there gradually... what do you guys think... I dont want to waste time and money as well really if the others will not work, and want to use the one that has worked |
