Re: My search is over!
One thing I'm really confused about about microdermabrasion is how to apply it. Bare hands does not seem like a good idea, but I've tried looking through earlier posts with no idea how other people do it. Help?

hazblue - I use rubber gloves most of the time. Not the disposable latex ones like a dentist might use but heavier latex yellow gloves like you might find in cleaning supplies section of grocery. - bd

Re: My search is over!
Hello everybody,I haven't been around for a while, how are you doing with microdermabrasion and aha treatment?I'm still using aha lotion on a daily basis to maintain kp free skin that I worked so hard for.During summer time everything was easier,I only needed to apply the lotion a few times a week but when colder days came those little kp bastards tried to come back rapidly.I was on an intensive treatment with aha 20(twice a day) for a month, now my skin is clear again and I do the aha 15 once a day.

Re: My search is over!
I will have to order AHA's, because Neostrata Canada charges $30 for a bottle of 10% Glycolic Lotion, at least in Shopper's Drug Mart. I was paying $40 a jar for their 10% Ultra-Smoothing Cream. I used this for unrelated reasons, but it gives you an idea of how impractical it is for me. For that concentration, and the severity of my condition, I just don't think 10% is what I want to settle for.
So I have contemplated KPDuty. I had previously thought that you couldn't get any concentration higher than 10% in Glycolic, unless prescribed by a dermatologist. But apparently not. So I would like to get a hold of some 15%, and 20%. Of course, there is always mixed AHA. The micro-dermabrasion crystals are an interesting subject. I find it utterly perplexing that they are supposedly not readily available locally. And it is particularly strange that it is this one website that sells them. I've searched the internet for other dealers, and I can't find any. Why is that? Would sugar work? Maybe organic sugar crystals? I would think that any crystal substance would work. Would sugar not be abrasive enough? There must be some substitute, because so far I can't tell if I can get these micro-dermabrasion crystals sent to Canada. I was in the health food store recently, and I came across a fantastic abrasive glove. Exactly what I've been looking for. I will surely go back and get it as soon as I can. But it seems to me that this should work much the same as the crystal method. Would it not render comparable results? Update: I did another search and I found them, now I just have to find out if they use PayPal and ship to Canada. Last edited by McTendo; 12-11-2007 at 10:16 AM. |

Re: My search is over!
Turquoise has a website? I can't find the link... There are no instructions on how this works either.
What potency Glycolic Acid do I start with? How do I apply the microdermabrasion cyrstals? How often do I use both? *confused* |

Re: My search is over!
Mmmm, generally it's good to start with 10%. Nothing below that, since concentrations below 10% have not shown much use on the skin(it's debated). Once(or if) your skin becomes used to that concentration, you can move up to 15% and on.
For the microdermabrasion crystals, you need to either order them from a spa supplier or find a product with them. And you just either have a base that they are in, or you buy a cream base for it, and then apply and rub. Depending upon how bad your condition is, I know a lot of people do it once to twice a day. By the way, I found a spa who sells crystals to Canada. Oh yeah, you can get a big tub of them. I'm currently using sugar crystals mixed in a base of Tea Tree and Olive Oil. Which I did not make myself, it's Salley Hansen. |

Re: My search is over!
Thanks a lot.
I have read about half of the page so far. If what my dermatologist has me on isn't enough to treat my moderate KP (arms, legs, chest, back), then I'm going to begin using what her site recommends. What a great read. Last edited by Chris89; 01-14-2008 at 07:19 PM. |

Re: My search is over!
Sugar scrub is a good substitute for those who can't get microdermabrasion crystals, cause the sugar will break down to give glycolic acid which is also an AHA.
